This is what I call good practice. Not just for the police but also for the common drivers. That will teach them how to maneuver out of the way in time and to know where to stop when a siren-ed sound police vehicle is approaching

George Young Red police cars are from the parliamentary and diplomatic protection group of Met Police

Here in the states there are really only three car companies that make vehicles for police use. They are Chrysler(FCA), Ford and GM. They all make vehicles that are beefed up and outfitted for police patrol work called police patrol vehicles(PPV). Some unmarked cars are outfitted like a car any citizen can buy. I see that many different brands are used in London and i assume in most of the UK. MY question is, do the car makers over there also have a police specific version of the vehicle they sell to the police, or do the police have to make the existing vehicles stronger themselves e.g., bigger radiators and cooling systems, stronger suspension systems and such? In addition, i saw a police van that had the words CITY POLICE on the sides. what is the difference between those officers and the others that were shown responding to calls?

Each force has it sown budget and they can buy whatever they see fit They then pay for the coverage identification sirens etc etc etc City police only cover the city of London and that is really thier juristriction and no where else.

West midlands police buy bmw 3 series and they are remapped to give much more power and futted with upgraded parts. Armed units may be fotted with ballistic doors and such.

Well, here in the UK, police cars aren't really "beefed" up, like they are the US, ramming is a last resort tactic, I believe the pursuer also needs permission before attempting to ram. Most police cars here are just re-mapped civilian vehicles, upgraded and tinkered with to provide better acceleration as our roads are mainly short, narrow and twisty, a small, swift and light vehicle is preferred over a big, slow and heavy one, however, armed police units such as SCO19, don't take my word for it, but I believe the doors and some parts of the bodywork on the car are reinforced with, light armour protection, thick enough to stop a 9x19mm bullet and maybe, just maybe a 5.56mm, but that's pushing it, these upgrades, I imagine, would not compromise the performance of the vehicle. Now, police departments in the UK serve in different jurisdictions, depending on the County, a bit like the States over there, but smaller, for example, I live in the County of Tyne and Wear in the North East of England, so my local police department is the Northumbria Police, the Metropolitan Police serves the City of London and surrounding areas, you get the idea. Each police department has their own budget and I believe they can choose whatever vehicle they want, as long as it's road legal. The most common police vehicles that you will see are patrol spec Vauxhall Corsas and Vauxhall Astras, they are a couple of the cheapest cars you can buy over here in terms of what you get which is what makes them such a popular choice. For motorway/highway patrol vehicles, they have more higher-end vehicles like Jaguars, BMW Ms and such but most of the time, they do still utilise the everyday patrol cars like the Vauxhall Corsas. Interceptor units, I am positive they strictly use higher-end vehicles. I hope that answers most of your questions, I know it is a long read, but I'm really fucking bored right now, hahaha.

I've always liked them, they're the people that come to us in our time of need and there's so many different bits of equipment and vehicles that are used, with different purposes etc. It's an obsession to the point I now work for the NHS and I'm currently doing my training.
