Thank you for this! I kept getting videos that focused on streaming settings. Yes! My recorded videos are syncing with audio and everything is clear! If I can make a suggestion, teach about creating PROFILES and make this one Recorded Videos, so you don't mess up your streaming settings. Love your calming tone. Settings are super stressful.

You're welcome! I do use multiple profiles on OBS but if you are recording and streaming on one profile, that can work fine too as it's two different tabs and they don't mess up with each other.

@6:00 I have a trick. I'm 1080p for base canvas, however for the output scaled resolution, I do 2560x1440. Why? When you upload to KZread you will get the vp09 codec. 1080p and under only get av01 codec which is crap. Let me tell you the DIFFERENCE this makes. I can't stress this enough. You can have ALL the settings jacked up, but if you upload at 1080p, your videos won't look nearly as clean as if you fake 1440p output it, to force KZread to give you the good codec.

Wouldn't this just end up stretching the video as if you're playing in stretch resolution though giving recording black bars? It'd essentially be the same thing as rendering a 1080p recording to 1440p in editing software

With Geforce experience I can set bitrate to up to 250k, is there any benefit to that crazy high of a bitrate? if your have the storage space for it, especially if your uploading and it will be compressed?

I wasn't aware of that with MKV. I use MKV because MP4 had a rare issue with losing entire audio tracks for some ungodly reason. Good to know there is another reason to stick to MKV.

@Agent unfortunately it,s a big disadvantage for OBS as most other screen recordings have pause recording, really it is very important point at least for me as I record long lectures and it takes long time and also very boring to depend on montage for integrating many videos. I'm new user for OBS but I think I will not go with it. Thanks for the recommended video, I watched it and it's really helpful.

i used this and had to have some settings different because they wouldnt appear or just didnt show up and my game was a lot more smooth and even though there was still lag spikes it was a lot more smooth

I've got a 3080, and a I7-12900k and I can only use P1 when recording my PS5. Any other option causes major stuttering and choppieness. Any idea what this could be?

fun fact youtube has a recommended bitrate chart for recording videos to it's platform.

I use a dual set up pc for streaming and recording so I boost a little bit the option for instance I put P7 as a preset and two passes full resolution ( I'm not sure for this one I'm traslating it from italian) what you suggest me for the bitrate I put 50000 because I mostly record gameplay is it enough ?

50k is more than enough for gameplay. Do a test recording and see how it looks like. You can always tweak some settings to your liking :)

I get input lag when I record games while playing them. Even in OBS. Does this tutorial help with that? I'm running a newer pc with a 4080 SC and 13600k along with 32 gigs of ram. I have had this issue with Shadow Play as well. I make sure to turn off unnecessary programs in the background. No programs like Synapse or ICUE either. The movement lag is quite pronounced. It gives the impression that my keys are stuck moving in a certain direction. Does anyone have any idea what to do about this issue?

Any thoughts on x265 instead of x264?

One question, with the output mkv and automatic redux does obs also save the mkv file just in case there is an issue. that way you do not have to re-record, you just use the original mkv.

Yes, you get both mkv and mp4 after you're done recording.

@@Agenterino Thanks for the response, was unsure however i did do a test and that is great in case of a crash.. great vid.. switched my setup and testing those vid settings to see if they helped out a bit as my bit rate was way down. I have a 3070 but also im setup for doing 3d work , rendering so 64 gigs ram "overkill" so pretty sure it can handle the 50000 np.

I am still trying to fix the unsupported the aspect ratio bug

For VBR where is de minimum bitrate config? Only found one bitrate conf for VBR in OBS 29... before that was a minium and max bitrate config...

Followed your instructions but my videos still look choppy/stutter. Do you think it's cause I play above 60fps with variable refresh rate? Would you recommend to force game to output at constant 60 fps ?

That shouldn't be a problem. What are your PC specs? I play my games at high FPS or locked to my monitor refresh rate which is 165 hz. One thing I can tell you is make sure that you right click on OBS and make sure it always runs as an admin. That fixes most of the issues.

I am just wondering this; Say I struggle to hit 120 Hz (or any other integer of 60 Hz), and in average I get, say 90 or 100, with random spikes of sometimes 120, sometimes 78. Is the OBS algorithm so awesome that will smooth out the whole VRR recording into 60 Hz? That's why I'm asking that, for recording, should I force the game to sync(or vsync) to display for a perfect 60 fps OBS capture?

@@fernandopenasilva You're recording in 60 fps. It doesn't matter how much FPS you get ABOVE 60 as it's only recording to 60 anyway. You might notice the difference on your monitor obviously, but the recording will always be the same.

So, i am super new to this.. and for some reason your video is lagging for me.. is it my comp? or something with youtube

CBR with 50.000 is too big for recording around 10 minute video, i set mine with VBR and min bitrate 15.000 and max to 35.000 or 40.000 so when there's minimal movement on the gameplay the bitrate isn't hogging the video size that much

Why you set keyframe to 0? In every other video they set it to 2? For better quality should i higher bitrate or let it on 50k and change preset?

Are you running OBS as an admin? Try lowering your preset to P4 or change your tuning to low latency instead.

The bitrate depends on your encoder. If you use NVENC, it will be using your GPU so you will need to have a decent GPU to be able to encode it all. If you use another encoder like x264, then it will use your processor.

@@Agenterino Ah gotcha, thanks. I have an AMD 6000 series gpu so I've been using the AMD AVC encoder and it seems to work well around 10k bitrate. Still trying to fine tune it. The x264 was overloading at 20k. OBS is like rocket science lol

Since that's an old GPU, you'll have to stream with a CPU instead. It all depends on how good your CPU is.

Hey man, REALLY getting frustrated here, lol. Running an RTX 3070/i7-12700KF cpu and no matter WHAT settings I use, bit-rate between 10-20-even 90-120k and the video still just is NOT 1080p resolution clarity. From the actual gameplay to the recorded gameplay, the recorded is ALWAYS slightly blurred and slightly stuttery. Have a few vids on my channel that u could see for an example. Watched several vids and just don't undestand why it's diff for me. Is my GPU not working as it should or what? How do I figure out and resolve the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I see a lot of people have this similar issue. Really weird problem. Make sure you try running OBS as admin and update your GPU drivers. That seems to have fixed a lot of issues for others. Also try saving your recordings on SSD instead of HDD. I had a weird issue when I was saving videos on my hard drive. Lmk if it helps!

@@Agenterino Thanks for the reply but yeah, I re installed new drivers yest, already run it as admin and the only storage I have is the SSD m.2. Is that not good? Lol. It's how the PC came (ABS Gladiator, 3070,i7-12700KF, 16GB RAM and a 1tbSSD m.2) Lemme know. Also, I play on a 1080p monitor, if that makes a diff. Figured low res better performance, but seeing it doesn't work like that. Also getting 37-57% GPU usage in most games. Which is low, trying to figure this all out.)

@@dying2play517 You can try using the frequency control to CQP and the level of CQP use 20. I try that and the gameplay sees very smoth. I have the same issue as you and i used that. (Sry for my bad english, im spanic)

How come you edit the video bitrate down to 10000 in your recording software? doesn't KZread accept up to 80000 bitrate before it squashes 1440p videos? 50000 is what it accepts 1080p videos. Wouldnt 10 make the video look bad once it hits YT?

Try to render at 80k and see how big the files get haha. Most of these videos where there's not a lot of movement are rendered at 10k. If there's a lot of movement or I'm playing a game, I do VBR 20-30k.

If your monitor is 1080p then max you can set is 1080p. If you want to record in 1440p or 4k, you need a monitor with that resolution.

What about uploading to youtube. How to reduce file size without reducing video quality? Takes forever to upload to youtube

I have a 1660 super and a ryzen 5600g, I’ve tried multiple different settings from different videos and I’ve gotten the recordings clear with slight tweaking yet no matter whose settings I try or change too it still lags and stutters every few seconds. Especially during high motion. I’ve tried 40000 all the way to 75000 bitrate and even have OBS locked as administrator as well as using nvinc encoder. Any advice or anything I may be missing? I play Destiny 2 and average 90 to 165 fps max settings with a 165 hertz OC’d monitor. Been trying everything for the past 3 days.

If it stutters, it's not about the bitrate even though your GPU is on the weaker side. I'd advise doing 10-20k (depends what works for you) and changing your preset to P4 or below. It will ruin the quality a bit but at least it won't lag anymore.

That'd be for streaming. This is for recording. There's no max bitrate for recording

Man you saved me. I was wondering why nvidia's GeForce experience could produce a decent recording of my playtime but OBS could not. This video solved that. It was the bitrate.

As soon as there is any movement except for my mouse cursor, the video is laggy af. These settings dont work either

@@YT_RShadowX Since I don't use an AMD GPU (nor a laptop) it's hard for me to say. I'd advise on reading some reddit posts or watch other videos where they compare those said encoders. I've seen people recommend SVT-AV1 but see what works best for you.

Every OBS has an encoder. Make sure you are looking at advanced and not simple under "output mode" on the top.

You have to wait for YT processing which takes up to a few hours sometimes. Then you will have all the quality settings.

@@Agenterino , I think it's actually quite good. 5800x, 3080, 32 RAM. I need to fiddle more with the settings, but it did go back to CQP as it feels more forgiving on both my real-time performance and the recordings quality.

This video is a lie. You say "No Lag" I call bs....according to your settings you probably have 30 seconds or more of LAG. Maybe you should retitle this video as "For recording only, NO streaming"
