Remembering the vocabulary is one of the most important parts of learning a language. But it's often very difficult and time consuming at the same time. That's why to encourage everyone to pick up their studying again I decided to share how I studied vocabulary in English and Chinese and what are the most effective methods I found. Especially if you're looking to become fluent in conversation these tips will definitely help you. Good luck!

I also practiced (British) English by talking to myself and every time people ask me how did I get so fluent I'm like "It's probably gonna sound sad, but I just talk to myself in English". I usually pretend to be a youtuber making a vlog or something.

This is true! I was able to remove my native language accent by watching females (need to be the same gender so that I can mimic their speech easily) in videos speaking English and then record myself mimicking them. Then after is a conversation with my self or explain things in English to myself or to my pets lol

Ich should do that more often because i more or less understand everything that is written and said in english but i have a hard time remembering those words when i try to speak or write. A big factor for me was the fact that i watched a lot more english videos and films and so on. My KZread algorithm is basically like 35% german 55% english and 10% japanese which are either songs or videos with subtitles.

  • 3 жыл бұрын

@@m.l.2871 For me, the most efficient part is: after watching a video with subtitles I see it again without subtitles as soon as possible, because then I still remember well what is being said, and so the video becomes comprehensible input for me.

I really appreciate that you teach natural, conversational Japanese in your videos; and that you speak slowly and clearly enough for me to understand. I have been studying Japanese for about 6 months now, and I could almost completely understand what you were saying without subtitles. Of course, because I wanted to fully understand you I also read the subs when I needed to. My biggest study tip for vocabulary is when you are listening, don't get hung up one one word. If you do, you will miss the rest of the sentence. I used to do this a lot with words that were familiar but not automatically understood. I learned that often times you can fill in the missing word through context--and even learn vocabulary this way. After all, this is how children learn new words in their native language. Oh, and this is a big saving grace: in an actual conversation you can always ask the person with whom you are talking to explain or repeat a word that you missed. So don't stress about it!

This is kind of what I did to improve my English. I got to a certain level with my school lessons, but it wasn't enough. So when I started reading in English, I found out that I had started to learn more words without purposely studying them. I think that once you reach a basic level, reading helps learning more naturally.

I recently learned the value of speaking out loud. I'd been studying Japanese for 3 whole years and had a decent understanding when reading and listening to it. But then, in my first conversation with a Japanese person, I completely froze. I could only make very short, very basic sentences. I realized this was happening because I never actually SPOKE, I just did reading, writing and listening. Now I read everything out loud and it's a big help.

"If you get on a bike, you can surpass a fast runner." Unless that fast runner is also riding a bike, and has learned to pedal it as fast as he/she could... But to be fair, it's true that by employing more efficient studying methods, you could achieve more effective results. I've noticed that a lot of people born with linguistic talent tend to rely excessively on it, and neglect ways for further improvement. It takes much hard work, but even those who aren't 'language-smart' can eventually overtake them.

Thank you for always using easy japanese! I always find I can watch these videos without needing any subtitles except for a few difficult words I come across every now and then. I also talk to myself in Japanese to practice! My tip for practising spoken Japanese with Japanese people/Japanese learners is joining a Japanese/English language exchange server on discord. There are quite a few! You can literally just google some and go join a few (watch out though there are certainly some weirdos out there). I made a few Japanese friends and they invited me to their server and we talk pretty much every day and sometimes play games together. I also help them practise English although we normally just end up speaking in Japanese. One of them is still a high school student and he reads out his English vocabulary to me and I help him with the pronunciation. It's a lot of fun and super rewarding! Actually, all of them are from Osaka, so I've ended up picking up a lot of kansai-ben and whenever I use it without thinking they always tell me (jokingly) 訛ってんな! (ie. I'm pronouncing it wrong/saying it the wrong way). It's also really nice to hear them improve in their English as well.

This is all very good advice. The more senses that one uses to "feel" a new word or phrase, the better. Writing it out is feeling it, looking at it is seeing it, saying it out loud is both hearing and speaking it, and hearing somebody else say it helps to contextualize it in your memory. For me, it's especially useful to write out a word in hiragana or katakana, as I can then visualize the individual phonemes better than in romaji. The same goes with learning new vocabulary in a phrase, too. It becomes something like a song lyric, and you can just switch around the individual words to make completely new sentences and grammatical structures. Great job!

Ahhh I'm new to your channel and I've been learning Japanese on and off with another online friend but we've been very slow and the progress wasn't satisfactory because we're too shy to speak with each other and also, when I try watching other Japanese videos, people often speak way too fast for me to catch it right. But the way u speak slowly is so beautiful, and I understood almost all of it without using subs so I'm feeling alot more confident now that maybe I can actually do it!!! Thank you so much for the content till now and also for the content you'll make in the futureよろしくお願いします🙏😍

I have been using music to immerse myself in Japanese & Japanese youtubers & of course my sensei Misa & miku. Miku sensei told me to explore so i found your channel & others. Kimono Mom is one of my favorites, I enjoy seeing everyday life in Japan as it helps me to know how to use proper vocabulary & the like.

The main reason why i watch your video is because you put japanese and english subtitle... So that i can learn japanese. And also, you talk slowly so that i can keep that in mind. Ngl, your performance also makes me watching your videos. Thanks a lot🤗😊

You won me over, mate.. well done. I love your channel. Answering your question, I write examples of the word used in context in a meaningful sentence. Then say it our loud and repeating the phrase the whole day. It helps me to better associate the word withe situation.
