Best LIPO Battery for RC Drifting? Should You Use Bullets?
I see this question frequently: what battery should folks use for rc drifting.
In this video, I go through different sizes, C-ratings, and weights.
Note - I do not even talk about 3S batteries, as they are typically not allowed (or needed) for RWD rc drifting at all.
Batteries I discuss:

you can put a red circlular adhesif around the posi side on the those bats and it'll double the visual security ;) if you are tying down a cable use something to stop it rubbing on the carbon or it will cut right through ;)

Awesome tips Troy! Good thing we don’t have to worry about driver weight like they do in the 1:1’s! They’d need a motor the size of an oil drum and a 3000A esc to regain all that lost power with me in there!😝😂

Funny I found this video today, Troy. Coincidentally, I was having a bit of trouble with my converted TT-02 and the thing is… LiPo will give me the power I want but on NiMH, it has the weight I need. As far as the Yokomo YD-2 goes, you can run Tamiya-style stick packs (both NiMH and 2S LiPo) or “shorty” 2S LiPo packs. The guys around me have use Lectron Pros, ProTek and Gens Ace. I’ve seen a few RêveD shorty packs but those were mostly on RêveD MC-1 chassis. I’ve only seen one or two actual Yokomo Racing Performer shorty packs but most have been Gens Ace or Lectron.

Thanks for the response. Nimh is very heavy, correct?
my go-to is the CNHL 4000mAh 7.6V 2S 120C HV. They are usually under $30 a piece and weigh about 165g. They are very similar to the Gens Ace Redline 4000 LCG which is also very good. The CNHL seems to have a bit more runtime which explains the slight extra weight. For the price, they can't be beat.

Thanks for the info! I have had mixed results with CNHL batteries, but always happy to try again!
You're going down a rabbit hole .... Drilling "speed holes" in the chassis and filing down posts thinning down wheel rims etc .... Been there 😁
@RoadsideRC

I have been eyeing the chassis...it is carbon fiber...but there is a lot of it... :)
Now that I’ve got a few of the Redline batteries (needed the really slim batteries to fit the Usukani chassis), I think I’m gonna go with bullets for my drift cars. Sticking with Deans for the crawlers tho…

Hey 👋🏻thanks as always nice and informative video. I have Hobbywing XR10 Pro-Stock 2S 80A ESC and Gens Ace Redline 2S LiHV Battery 130C (7.6V/5100mAh). ESC’s website says 6V - 7.4V so is it still safe to use 7.6v ?

A 2S standard lipo charges to 8.4V....so it will be fine. Even though I have HV lipos, I typically don't charge them to the HV.

Can you use the redline battery with 7.6v on your Esc? Doesn’t the Esc only take 7.4v?

I believe the esc is HV capable. I never charge it to that. I only ever use it at standard voltage.
