BEST KNOT FOR BOOT LACES // Never have untied hiking boots again
I spent years tying my shoe laces wrong. This knot is the best knot for hiking boots or running shoes. Your shoelaces will not come untied during your activity. It is easy to tie and will not come untied while on the trail. By far the best knot for you hiking boot laces.

LIFE CHANGING!!! I've been tying my shoes with this knot for 11months, since finding this video. No loose shoe laces again

Life changing for me too. I am glad my own family showed me the light.
I've tied my shoes this way since high school, while playing sports. My soccer cleats had laces that were slippery. This solved it! I've taught this method to hundreds of athletes and students (I taught PE) over the years. My own kid has finally started listening. I think the last time I tied my sneakers was 3 or 4 months ago....

Thank you for the slow motion of the double tie! I understand how to do this now.

I came here by watching your hacks video with snowshoes. Like you, I've been tying my shoes the same way for 40 years until about a month ago I saw a guy tie shoes this way. I thought it was interesting and have adopted this my new way of tying. Much more secure this way. Love the video.

Thank you so much for that!! Also a tip for this knot, in the beginning when you make the first criss cross knot, make a double criss cross. Not as you show in the end, but meaning when you make the first one, stick one of the ends of the first criss cross through the hole AGAIN, and the the second criss cross. It will look like a long criss cross with two spiral things (I can't describe as good lol :0 ) This will ensure the first one also stays tight and on spot. Works best if you wet-ten it a bit..

Another good tip is to go left over right twice instead of once for the initial knot. This helps it stay while you process the second knot. I believe they call what you are doing a double slip knot. Knots are cool. Thanks for the video.

You bet, it turns out she was right all along. Happy wife, happy life.
I'm having some trouble getting the knot to tighten after wrapping the lace around the second time. Perhaps I'm not strong enough to pull this knot tight? I'm very confident that I followed your instructions correctly in the video, and my knot looks the same as yours. I'm just wondering if this knot requires a certain amount of hand strength to pull tight?
@OutsideChronicles
Жыл бұрын
The knot does not require any extra strength tightening than the standard bunny ears method. Something is not 100% correct. Sorry without seeing it, I cannot offer much help.
This method of tying is also known as the climber's knot

Wish I would've known about this knot sooner! After many years of re-tying my trail runners and boots, I was turned on to Lock Laces by a popular Triple Crown thru-hiker and now I swear by them!! They are a no-tie lace, so I never have to tie my shoes, and they are easily adjustable!!! Have you ever tried them?
@OutsideChronicles
4 жыл бұрын
Elizabeth D no I have not heard of lock laces, they look pretty cool. For my trailrunners, I always buy Salomon XA Pros which have a similar lace lock called Quicklace. But I have to say, I still have not had this knot fail. Ironically, I tied a pair of sneakers the other day with a traditional knot by mistake and it came undone, re-tied with the new knot, held the whole day.

Cool, I did not know the name. Still the best knot! Just got done hiking Kahtadin and never had to re-tie! Thanks for the info.
Sorry, this is only a slightly better knot. My whole channel was created to show you a better way using a Secure Knot. You can easily test your knot and see it fail by simply tying some paracord (or round slippery shoelace) around the neck of a plastic water or soda bottle. Then hold the bottle by the end and start shaking hard. Your knot comes undone fairly easily. You will get blisters on your hand before mine comes undone (tested many times). Glad you are paying attention to shoelaces though, the number of injuries from untied laces is amazing.
Just realized I wasn't using the correct method to tie shoelace 😅

That's a Parisian knot. The Berluti knot is supposed to be better.
Sorry
Yeah BRO! tried your knot. And man do i feel bad for your kids... That knot SUCKS!!! I try to do it LITERALLY 10 times and get it right ONCE! That second loop wont tighten up 90% of the time and then the knot just falls apart. Went on a bottle dig today aka lots of walking and standing on steep banks. I did your knot on my left boot and a normal knot on the right. Guess which one came loose. THE LEFT! Your video gets a thumbs down from me. . .sorry BRO!

I suspect you are tying it wrong. The knot has worked for 100’s (maybe 1000’s) of people. And no need to feel bad for my kids, they tie it correctly, are over 6’, good looking, at the top of their class, athletic, and musical. Read the rest of the comments, it has been life changing for people. Learn how to tie correctly.

@@OutsideChronicles He's has a point though -- at least with flat laces, it doesn't want to pull down into a knot. You really have to work from both sides to get it to tighten. But he was rude and a jerk.
