I have one too and I love it! But unfortunately it's not hot-swappable, so I keep coming back to my akko alice pro keyboard with really heavy tactile switches because I love the tactility of it. Nice review, btw.

Dev here as well with two advantage2 kbs (tactile and linear switches). One of the biggest pros for me aside from all those mentioned is the ability to remap keys, for example putting the plus key on the right hand side of the kb, remapping caps lock to esc, delete to tab, etc. You should try it if you haven’t yet done so.

Extremely good review, thank you so much! I made the mistake to get a low profile 75% non split keyboard. I'll try customization with VIA for a while but I now want to switch to Kinesis and I hope it is VIA compatible to be able remap braces, dots, comma, pipe and alike for programming. Id get the split kinesis version to for gaming times (more space for the mouse possible, good for low sense)

I own 3 of those. One for work, one for home, one for my wife who converted after seeing me swear by it. Converted to Dvorak along the way. And I'm a computer scientist. Best keyboard by far (leaps and bounds). I can still use my old conventional keyboard on my MBP. Absolutely love the advantage 2. Worth it a million times over. Steep learning curve though (which is probably a more acute issue than the price).

Great Review, i use the older model for about 8 years now, and i love it. Before i always had problems with wrist pain, since i use this one i never had. But one mayor thing you left out, this keyboard gives the most commend used keys like shift, command, enter, space and backspace to your strongest finger, your thumb, while other keyboards just ignore the thumb. This seams like a small detail but i think it should be in the top markting features, as it really makes a difference. If you think about buying one or not, just do it. 350$ is a lot of money, but if your work is mostly on a PC, it is defenetly worth it in the long run. They are extrem good quality i have mine for 8 years now and work everyday with it, i never hand any problen with it. This is the only piece of my equipment that had not changed in the last 8 years, 3 laptops and 2 gaming PCs, 3 Mouses, and 4 Monitors have gone by in that time, dozens of Headsets but always the same keyboard. So in my opinion it is defenetly worth the money.

Can you share how long it took you to get used to this keyboard coming from a traditional keyboard? And what is your WPM using this compared to a traditional keyboard and how long might it have taken you to catch up?

Yeah, my situation I think is pretty extreme, but I got the keyboard on a Friday, and I invited some friends to test it out, and we were typing at like 3-4 WPM LOL. I have some old footage that I never turned into a video. Throughout that weekend, I just cold turkey typed on that keyboard, probably over a dozen hours. By Monday, I was able to work on that keyboard, and that was my daily driver keyboard from then on. Maybe it took a week to get to full speed typing speed? Now I am able to type at 120WPM on either this or a regular keyboard or the Macbook keyboard.

@@Richardlizhu Appreciate the quick response. I just ordered one last night and my main hesitation is the learning curve but I'm sure I'll be able to get it down within a few weeks. I also type roughly 120 wpm on traditional keyboards.

I've had my Advantage2 for 7 years now - have never had a keyboard i like more! Just dumped a soda on it last week and have sticky keys - fighting my way through while i wait for replacement!

I think they have stopped supporting it. Have you looked at the Glove80? Just ordered a Moonlander myself, for coding. The number of layers is very useful for my 3d apps.

Consider Dactyl keyboard which is more customizable. Only available as made to order.

Yes! I have Kinesis Advantage360 and am working on the review for that right now! Subscribe to see that review and also I will be putting out a comparison video of the Kinesis Advantage2 vs the Kinesis Advantage360. I don't have any plans to check out the Dygma Defy, as the thumb cluster looks a bit awkward to use, and from my experience with the Ergodox keyboards, I think I like the 3d aspect of the Kinesis keyboards, so I figure the Dygma Defy will be similar to the Ergodox keyboards and not as good as the Kinesis in my opinion

As for vertical mice, I do want to, but I have yet to find one that's super great that fits all my needs and stands heads and shoulders above the rest. I've tried some, but they are generally harder to control in my opinion, and potentially more tiring to use

@@Richardlizhu I have had some cheap (doesn't mean bad) vertical mice before but none of them were great. I'm currently using Evoluent Vertical Mouse D. The shape and design (pinky rest, thumb position, and the most import it's close to 90 degrees) is fantastic. The downsides are sensor chip seems old and not great. Additionally, if you want bluetooth, it is not offered in the latest model. Logitech vertical mice has 57 degrees but thumb position is low. To me, it does not take away the pain. Evoluent is great at ergo design but everything else is not.

@@jtjt376 Oh yeah Evoluent is one of the ones that I have and have used in the past. Maybe it's because I'm a fingertip grip user that I don't find vertical mice very easy to use. They definitely are better ergonomically though

Do you feel like you've hit your speed potential on that keyboard? Feels like, at least on the surface, you can do better than on a regular keyboard because of its design.

I feel like on both keyboards I can get to about 120-130WPM, that's just about the maximum my brain can think and make my hands move without making mistakes. I could probably go higher if I practice specifically for it, but there's not much point for me, as when working, the limiting factor will definitely be your brain rather than typing speed xD

my concern is that I wouldn't be able to use a regular keyboard if I get used to this. Is that a real concern?

I also had this concern as well before I started using it, but I'm glad to report that using this keyboard hasn't decreased my typing ability on regular keyboards. I currently switch between the built-in Macbook keyboard, a regular mechanical keyboard, and the Kinesis Advantage, and I end up typing about the same speed on all of them, and no struggles with any of them

I really just wanted to see you type on the darn thing.

or just use spech to text to code? :)
