Great meter - not a fan of the charging setup, but I can live with it. I Bought mine end of April for $154 on Amazon, now they are listing for $239.

Thanks for your feedback! I notice other meters that can charge the batteries have even stranger setups. I think it is because to get the safety agency sign off - you have to be sure that it can not be operated when it is charging. :) I noticed the price just jumped up... I bet they only have a small number left so they raised the price because of how fast they started moving.

I got mine after your first video of it. I only paid $46 for mine. It is a great meter. I love the display. Been using it a lot lately. The no diode beep is it's only downfall. Really like my UniT UT61E+. it an the Southwire are my main meters. I had a different Southwire, 14090 that I used for a while. Good Quality meters.

Thanks for the great idea! I like that. It takes too much time to post a video that will be dated in a short amount of time. I know some think I make so much money on these, but my channel is so small - even how popular this video is - I think I made almost $10. I really wanted to show that I am trying to help those that can't afford an expensive meter to actually get one at a fantastic price. But, there are trolls out there and then I think of the time I could have spent doing a video that might have helped more... It is such a hard game to play. So this idea of yours might be the answer - thank you!

I had purchased 2 of these and then went to order a replacement battery, got the battery that was in the link, but it would not work at all, not turn on. It had a full charge. I watched another teardown of this meter and got the battery # off his meter, it was the Amazon meter and had a different battery than the battery in the link, so I ordered that one because it was a number that came out of the same meter. Got the new battery today and it was not model # I ordered but was the model of the one in your link, so I though, crap got two bad batters, turns out this one worked fine and the original battery was bad. One other thing, the memory battery is long bad, ct1220 is what it takes.

Wow, I paid $54 for mine. Great meter, and its capacitance measurements have been spot on. It s 180 now. I’m still butthurt that it doesn’t bleep in diode. They could have done a better job with the charging method. Thanks for the find.

Thanks for the great feedback! I find so many newer meters that do not beep - but I wish one like this would have offered the option to turn it on/off. Lots of engineers work in cubes, and it is annoying to hear the beep. The charging has to be done this way, I think, to maintain the safety rating. One guy said that he wish it could be charged when in operation. All multimeters are supposed to be turned off when changing batteries - I'm sure the same applies to charging. I love that it has a rechargeable battery.

I got one for 70 on eBay and one from Amazon for 160 last time. Missed the real good deals. Gave one to my good friend that's a ham operator.

Thanks for these posts. I Got both based the earlier post. I’m a fan of OLED displays, and these are nice. I have two things that I don’t like about them, unfortunately. The Amazon model seems to have no way to run at a lower count, and it’s pretty slow. The graphing feature isn’t very helpful at those rates. Also both meters have a selector switch that is so firm that holding the meter is necessary when switching it.

Thanks for this feedback!! Geez - they must have seen the inventory drop so the big sale is over. At $240 it isn’t a bad deal - just not the amazing deal. But eBay has them for $209. They will all be gone soon. Maybe some of the people that bought lots of four will put some of them up for sale.

That Keithley is a great option!!

I have the Amazon version which cost around $100 when I got it. It's a great meter for sure, but has one flaw that will keep it from being my go-to meter. The function switch is virtually impossible to change without using 2 hands. You can't just reach over with one hand and change functions while it sits on the bench, it's just too stiff of an action. But it is feature packed and very good specs. Thanks for the heads up on 'em. -jrh

trust me, the best multimeter you can buy is the Instek GDM-541 and it isn't even that expensive, I use keysights and fluke dmms that are way more expensive at work and they are worse, though the flukes have great response times, the features on the Instek is just great

I have a. Similar shape multimeter from PeakTech here in Germany. It is great for what I need, although I am not happy with their multimeters. I have older models from them and they are acting sketchy at times. Anyway don't know really who was the first ones to come with the shape.

@@KissAnalog hi, so the one similar in shape is 3442.. I have seen same shape by Amazon Basic here in Germany. I am happy with 3442. The ones that cause problems are Peak Tech 3410 continuity, resistance I have to switch them over until I get it to work properly. And Peak Tech 4350 same kind of issues. Also is missing the zero button for the current measurement.

Thanks for your feedback! Yes - picked up some too - and the battery does need to be replaced - so I bought a whole pack at a very low cost.

Eddie, the high count on the meter is outstanding, but the battery charging is the meters downside. Not having usb-c charging is a big pitfall. I will not being recommending this is meter.

Thanks! It is outstanding! I would prefer USB-C as well - but I think it is a matter of safety and getting the agency approval. Some meters will not allow operation when changing out batteries - and I think all meters warn you of this. So, I think they have to make a contraption that forces the leads to be removed. I have another rechargeable meter with safety agency approval - and they had to do something very similar.

This is the first time I have ever declared a best of meter for a certain year. :)

Zero mention of Brymen $150 BM867s 500,000 count (guys). The only non-bench contender to Fluke. Joe Smith approved ruggedness (#1 DMM expert). This guy wants the whiz-bang baloney features when he doesn't even stress or AC test them at multiple freq's with DC offsets to see if the readings stay true.

Thanks for pointing out another non-contender. The BM867 is a great meter, but doesn't stack up to this one. It misses many features, and the BW is 5kHz not 20kHz. Joe Smith is awesome, but when it comes to surge testing - I have a resume that is hard to beat. I worked at Square D/ Schnieder Electric as a surge protection Engineer. You can watch my last video on this meter and see more testing.

@@KissAnalog I'd still like to see them both open because if the 867s front end is like the 869s, it's a winner. Yes Joe's found the CEM product is OK but not at the same HQ level as Fluke / Brymen / MetraHit (plus here, you are talking about a special price and not regular pricing).

Thanks for your response. Yes I did open this meter. I have found the CEM just as good as the Byrmen and Fluke - if not better. I know what surge protection is needed and I have designed these products for both US and other countries. Joe is awesome - but he even admits that his tests are above what is required for CAT ratings. This might sound like it is better - but not really - just different. There's more that goes into it. This CEM meter is the best at under $200 IMHO. But I'd like to know if you have one that is close? The Brymen's will cost more if they have one that is close. Dave at EEVBlog gave me 2 of his meters - and I love them, but the one close to this costs a lot more. As I said in the title, this meter at this price $167 is the best. No question in my mind - but I am open - and I'd love to recommend - whatever might be better to my audience. I had to add something here - how does Fluke even come into the conversation? They haven't produced a high end meter in 20 years IMHO.

Eddie, I think you have a handheld multimeter fetish or infatuation😊 Obviously you don't use all those meters, do you remove the batteries to keep leaking from destroying them?
