    Thank you for responding. I will check out those videos and paint chip. I'm trying to fix up my bedroom and I like so many colors. I didn't want the paint to clash if I were to do purple, blue or yellow bedding etc. If it doesn't work out. I will stick with white.

    Hi Claire, we’re remodeling a bathroom and hit a road block. Can you suggest a contrast color for smoke embers? Fixed elements are a charcoal tile, beige pattern tile floor, natural wood vanity with brass fixtures. We used Ben Moore sea salt on the walls and hated it. Kinda made everything feel muted after we painted it that color. Probably should have used SW sea salt but looking for your input. Thanks !

    All of the trim in my house is linen white. I am choosing a dark floor - ebony wood stain. What color lighter gray goes with these colors for Kitchen especially (essential white cabinets and fog gray island with white calcatta countertop)? Does light pewter work? I want it to be really light and bright (lots of windows) and I love the colors you chose, just not sure which one to use? :) Thanks!

    Would any of the lighter gray look nice with a walnut bed set? I have two windows in my bedroom and would like to keep the walls neutral. Also, are these colors consider more on the cool or warm side? Thank you!

  • @ClaireJeffordConsulting

    @ClaireJeffordConsulting

    Typically I tell clients that wood is like a neutral - like jeans - and it goes with almost anything. Saying that, Walnut (which is a lovely species of wood by the way) tends to take on an orange tone over time. At least that has been my experience with hardwood. As blue and orange are opposite on the colour wheel and many of these grays have a blue undertone, it's possible that the walnut may read more orange. As these grays have blue/green undertones, they are on the cooler side. If you are looking for something warmer, I would consider a 'greige' like Pashmina or Revere Pewter. However, you need to be guided by other elements in the room such as artwork, draperies, area rug etc. Or if you are lucky enough to have a fireplace in your bedroom and it has a tile surround, then you need to be guided first and foremost by these 'fixed' elements. I hope that helps. By the way, I have done videos on both Revere Pewter and Pashmina if you want to go and check them out in my Benjamin Moore Playlist. Cheers for your comment!

    Love watching you ! We decided to paint our kitchen cabinets Coventry gray. The trim is Simply white. What would you suggest for the wall color. The eating area has a large solid wall that that has a bay window and faces west. The connecting living room and dining room is Edgecomb gray with Simply white wainscoting and the room beyond that is Stonington gray with Simply white wainscoting. Stonington gray gets washed out when I tried it on the cabinets that is why I hope I am making the right choice with Coventry. I'd like to make my galley kitchen and eating area cohesive yet bright and airy. I not a fan of all white walls. help !

    Hi Patrick, thanks for watching! As I mentioned in another comment on this thread, I typically tell clients that wood is like a neutral - like jeans - and it goes with almost anything. Unless of course, it's not a medium tone and it's more like an orange pine or cherry red, for example. What you want to look at before selecting a colour, are your fixed elements. By this I mean tiles, fireplace stone, countertops and backsplashes as those generally have undertones or specific colours within them that your paint colour will need to relate to. I hope that makes sense. Let us know what you decide on the paint! Here's something you might find helpful, it's a link to my free paint guide. @@ClaireJeffordConsulting thank you for the response! I love your videos and website. Sadly ,I already knew I had to work with the countertops.😌 Which is why it's sad. Lol ! It's Cambria's quartz in Lane Shaw 😂😂. Very rich browns golds , creams and blacks. And the floors are also very golden shiny rectified porcelain tile with lots of movement on with other ( warm brown tones). Lots of natural southern and western light. My hubby is such a traditional" brownie" warm cozy colored type of guy and likes edgecomb. I'm a fresh cool colored girl that likes to mix styles up, and I don't wanna live in a big brown house ! 😫😥So, we clash! The only reason I have a parchment kitchen is because he wanted a very dark brown one. I had to compromise. Hopefully through many bottles of wine , videos and couple $100's in paint samples . Hello Fanie and thanks for watching. There are so many variables to consider when choosing a paint colour and as you can see, there are different undertones in each gray paint. I always look at the fixed elements like counters, tiled flooring, fireplace stone and backsplashes as these are what is staying in your home long term. Here's a video that I did a while back that talks about How to Choose Paint Colours. ---> kzread.info/dash/bejne/aZetzZaPZZmcpps.html If you are still stuck, please hire a colour consultant. HI Claire, I'm seeking some advice. I'm painting a very large accent wall Ben Moore "Gentleman's Grey 2062-20" in my main living space. For the rest of the room I've been leaning towards Gray Owl, but I also love Wickingham Grey. I'm so dizzy with looking at every grey that's out there I'm not sure if I'm headed in the right direction with those choices. Do you have any suggestions that would truly complement my Gentleman Grey accent wall? My living room is a cozy Mid Century vibe with warm woods, blue's and forest green accents, lots of windows with white trim. Thx again and I love your website!!

    Great video, but I'm curious - maybe I'm overly scientific, but lately I've developed a habit of Googling the HEX and/or RGB values, etc. for some Ben Moore colors (using Encycolorpedia for example) and the stated B Moore color values for all of these colors indicate fairly different undertones than what you describe. For example, Stonington Gray is described as a light shade of yellow-green, as is Titanium. Boothbay Gray is described as a medium shade of green-cyan. (Wickham is not in the database). So, do the actual paint colors, when applied, just fail to convey their intended values visually? It seems that Stonington Gray for example is certainly designed to have a yellow-green undertone (not blue) because if you look up that color on BM's own website and then select the darker shades of it, the green definitely starts to come out. Are the undertones scientifically indicated actually there and we just can't see them correctly, or is all the "science" hogwash? Sorry for the long question, but this damn color stuff (as a photographer) fascinates me and I find the data helpful in matching colors on the good old color wheel! It's FUN!!

    Hi Don, thanks for your thoughtful question. I'm afraid I can't comment on the science of it all, I just know what I learned from my good friend and True Colour Expert Maria Killam in regards to identifying undertones. I never look at the science part of it and always get the best paint colour the first time for projects and client work. My head starts to swell when I read the science behind colour, so it's not that I don't believe in it, it's just that I am not that type of learner. Hope that makes sense!

    Hello!! Thank you for your video. I would like your opinion, we are doing an accent wall in my son's bedroom which will have floor to ceiling wainscotting. I am looking to do that accent wall in a darker colour than the rest of the walls. He gets a lot of light in his room (south-facing) and his room measures11x11(by 14ft if you go right to the doorway) so I am looking for a colour that won't look blue.His furniture colour is expresso so it's quite dark. What shade of gray do you recommend for his accent wall and what lighter shade for his other walls?

    Hi Mar. There are so many options, it really is an open ended question at this point without seeing the space or knowing what finishes and fabrics you already have in there. Whatever you end up doing, make sure you repeat the accent wall colour elsewhere in the space so it looks purposeful. For example, in my daughter's bedroom we painted the ceiling a dark blue, which worked with the upholstery fabric on her bed and the blue in one of the accent pillows. Hi Lillie! You need to look at your counter tops and back-splash first, those stones often cannot be ignored. As your cabinets are light oak, depending on their tone, they could be considered more of a neutral. Of course, if they are very orange, then they will be 'warm tones'. Also consider the flooring, especially if that is a stone as well. And yes, please do not paint walls gray just because it's been popular over the past few years. If your fixed elements are warm and earthy tones, a cool gray will not work.

    @@lilly4able I would choose a back splash tile that you really like and that works with the white of your counter top & flooring. It can have a bit of colour or design to it as it sounds like everything else is fairly neutral, but may need to lean towards a warm tone based on what you have described. If you can, take a sample piece of your counter, flooring and then a kitchen cabinet door with you to a tile supplier when looking for backsplash. See what you like that works best. Then from there, take all those finishes to a paint store and select 5 or 6 colours for the walls, then see how they look in your home. I always suggest painting large boards, as that's when it's easiest to choose.
