    Can not agree with you more on galactic cruise. I was fortunate enough to play it (with the new rubber mat with the cutouts for the tiles, awesome) last week at origins and am still flashing back to the overwelmingly positiver experience. There were for of us and three of us took three different paths. One took the path of getting all of his gears out to jack up his engine, once took the approach to get several small ships built and get one done right away, and lastly, I took the approach to get a single giant ship built. At the end of the game we were all within reach of each other with just a handful of points seperating us. This, to me, speaks volumes of a game I already love (having apsects of gallerist, kanban and on mars built in). The theme was about as good as a theme gets for me. So glad you had the positive experience as it justifies my expereince.

    I have War of the Ring, First Edition, on my shelf of shame. Purchased years ago for my son but we never got it to the table. We weren't serious gamers back then and it was just too much for us. Recently purchased War of the Ring: The Card Game and have fallen in love with it. Solo, 2 player, 3 player, it works so well. Now that we know the game I think we are ready to get the board game out. Love all your playthroughs. It is obvious that you love the game. Your enthusiasm is contagious.

    Enjoy the epic boardgame! It is a great experience. You have to understand the basic mechanic of hidden (and theoretical) movement of the fellowship. The rest is playing the actions the dice which give different possibilities. The cards have two actions: play as an (standard rule breaking) event, like muster armies without being in war or in sieged fortifications) or as a card in a battle. When armies are defeated leaders and charakters too are being lost. That is nearly all😉 Good luck! If questions appear, write here.

    Happy Birthday Paul! Looking forward to your celebration coverage of Championship Formula Racing, Gaia Project, and Forbidden Stars. All games I've wanted to play but have never had the chance. Will be interested in seeing the gameplay which might tip me over the edge and force me to get a copy. Thanks for the great channel/content. You're truly a professional but so relatable as well. Feels like sitting down for a chat about games with a friend.

    Sounds like you're talking about the Promise Of Power and Dark Pact conditions in Eldritch Horror. Every reckoning you have to roll a die and on a 6 or a 1 (respectively) you flip them over and they help/hurt you. Dark Pacts are part of the base game and Promises Of Power were added in the Signs Of Carcosa expansion. Since you only roll for them when a Reckoning happens and you can't manipulate the die (no rerolls because it's not a test), it's a 1/6 chance something might happen. Usually you gain a Dark Pact in a bargain for something good to happen and the opposite is true for Promises Of Power. Personally, I love having them around. There are games I get a Dark Pact because I really want what the game is offering me for it and I end up never rolling a 1 with a sigh of relief at the end of the game. On the other side I get a Promise Of Power hoping it could save us from our impending doom and it's just impossible to roll a 6. Like I'm just praying for a higher power to intervene! I've found not every copy wins the game and not every copy loses the game for you. If you're not too pleased about a couple of the Promises Of Power being too strong for your liking (compared to Dark Pacts, which could kill your or somebody else's investigator, but that's just part of Eldritch Horror), you could always house rule those to have a good, but not as powerful effect (like advancing the active mystery instead of solving the active mystery). There are only 4 Promises Of Power versus 9 Dark Pacts, after all. Could you give a link to the channel where the playthrough will be added? I'm excited to see your first experience.

    I can't wait for Galactic Cruise to come out and the demo that you presented to us at the UKGE made it my wife's most anticipated game as well. It was very well done, thank you. I'm still slightly more excited for Joyride as it's more imminent and was so much fun. I still think you would like it and should try and get a game of it somewhere. So many good games just out and coming at the moment.

    After watching the imperium playthroughs here with the designers and considering its in the top 10 solo board games of all time, I went all in and purchased all 3. It hasn't clicked yet but I can see that there is alot of depth to it. I haven't quite figured out how to determine how well I am doing as the game progresses. For example, I thought I had finally smashed the Romans with Carthage, dumped them with loads of unrest and forced them to recall all their regions, only to find out in end game scoring, I lost.

    Have you played the Mercury's Boots mode of Victorum? It's one of the modules they are releasing in the expansion that was recently on Gamefound. They've released a free PDF rules for it. It's a quicker way to play the game, because the regular game is just too long and drags out. I think it's just 6 weeks per act, instead of 12 and some other rule tweaks to accommodate that. :)

    I generally have an idea of what games I want / need to play which fills 75% of my time. 5is year though, all my time is full. I offer Patreon supporters the first opportunity for a space at the table, and then any spaces left are open to the public. There is a games planner which I use to schedule my games and organise things in advance.

    No comments on how you liked “Ezra and Nehemiah” (unless I missed it)? Conscious that you did some sponsored content for the game… But given that you generally comment in this video on how much you like games and you didn’t say anything, can I assume that this one won’t make your Top 5/10 games of the year ?

    Paul: Imperium carries a 3.59 weight. I am surprised you’re saying it is complex. Is the 3.59 incorrect?… should it carry a heavier weight on BGG?

  • @davidturczi5713

    @davidturczi5713

    4 күн бұрын

    Bgg's weight rating is a "scariness" rating. Imperium has 3.59, Anachrony has 4.01 because one has a small box and one has a big one. Anachrony is much much simpler than other 4.0 games, while Imperium can be tricky and has a lot to learn about down the line. If I had to rate, I'd put Anachrony a 3.4 and Imperium a 3.8 probably. One learns to partially disregard BGG's weight rating, in both directions.

  • @davidturczi5713

    @davidturczi5713

    4 күн бұрын

    As for what clicks for whom also has no necessary correlation to complexity: Voidfall is indubitably more complex than Imperium (bgg rates it a 4.55, I'd give it a 4.1-4.2) and Paul had no trouble learning and playing it. Different people can tolerate different kinds of complexities.

  • @GamingRulesVideos

    @GamingRulesVideos

    3 күн бұрын

    As David says, the BGG weight rating isn't completely accurate, and everyone learns games in different ways. Imperium and Captains chaire are more "clever" than a lot of other games that might have a higher weight rating. ST:CC has dozens of cards, each unique, some with lots of different abilities. And whilst individually, those abilities are relatively simple, knowing how to put them all together and when to do things requires a lot more thought than most euros I play.
