    @@KELimagination I'm sure you will visit one day! Hakata Issou is a fantastic bowl. For me, my favorite might have been the first shop, Hakuryuken. But depending on my ramen mood, I would switch it up...Hakata Issou would be when craving that heavier flavor, for example 👍

    Great video as usual Frank Tried 2 of these places last couple of days in my Fukuoka trip. Yesterday I went to Shin-shin, though not the same location you linked, but I really loved it. Big portion and good noodles, the toppings were also great and the broth was absolutely delicious. I actually drank almost all of it because it was that good. Then tonight I went to Hakata Issou, and I wasnt as satisfied. It was recommended by a friend even before watching this video, so no blame to Frank ahah. I found the noodle portion pretty small, went for a refill, the chashu were razor thin and seemed to be mostly fat, or maybe they were so thin that they became to look that way, and yeah I gotta say I might not be a fan of the super porky broth. You weren't kidding about the smell, the moment I turned into the restaurant's street I felt its presence ahahah I might go for some yatai stalls tonight to satisfy my hunger Tomorrow is my last day, and I'm completely torn on which one of the last 3 places to try! Hakuryuken and Komaya seem similar, with the latter having a more "diluted" (soy+oil) broth, so I might prefer that, but Genki ippai sounds great too! What problems to have am I right ahah EDIT: the 'worst' part is that they're all within walking distance, so I'm already hearing the devil on my shoulder telling me to just go for a triple ahah

  • @5AMRamen

    @5AMRamen

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for watching and happy you enjoyed it! That's awesome you tried 2 from the list. I'm sure the other Shin-Shin location is just as tasty (they take their ramen seriously, as you know). That broth is so easy to drink...they could probably sell it in bottles for people on the go. Sorry you didn't enjoy Hakata Issou (I'll take half the blame 😅). It is an intense broth and perhaps not the best bang for your buck in that sense. Haha and yes, so smelly. I'm sure whatever you ended up eating for those last bowls was delicious, yatai or otherwise! Wonder if you hit a double or triple 😃

    That Genki Ippai bowl's soup almost looks like a white gravy. Benishoga in ramen sounds kind of odd (though I'm not the biggest fan of it), but makes sense for the heavier soup style. Looking forward to the other Fukuoka videos. :D

    I think tonkatsu ramen must be your favorite. The way you talk about it, it is obvious you love it. I'm not as big a fan, but I'm not sure if I've ever had a really good bowl. I think the "pork bone funk" is the taste that puts me off. I think of it as "dirty" or "earthy" and I have a hard time with it. I wish I knew if the couple of places around here were doing it well so I could know for sure. Sorry, long post.

    Actually, I rarely eat tonkotsu ramen - I'm more a lighter, layered broth shoyu or shio guy. But what it must have been was visiting Fukuoka after so long and the excitement surrounding that 😊. Wonder what those places taste like over there. A trip to Fukuoka is totally worth it! You don't need to eat a crazy amount of tonkotsu bowls but I think you'll enjoy some of the milder ones in this video.

    @@5AMRamen Hearing back from you honestly made my day. I appreciate that. Besides the little lessons/history and yummy food featured, I think one of the things that makes the videos so great is watching how happy you are when you are enjoying the ramen. When I do come to Japan, Tokyo is definitely on the list. But, if you had to recommend 2-3 other places to visit in Japan that would still have a lot to offer without being a big metropolitan/city atmosphere, what would you suggest. ありがとう、Frank.

    @@5AMRamen It's like an appetizer. Unless it was old pork bones - that would really reek. Like the smell of a dinghy noodle cart near the old metro line in Manila (and some of those use beef...but still reek). Speaking of which I don't even have an idea if the miso ramen cart near the Japanese Embassy in Manila (not too far from the rail line, but doesn't reek) is still out there thanks to the lockdown. Not to mention Santouka popped up all over the metro and you can sit at home and wait for arider to bring over cook at home miso ramen kits (sans corn though, the cart had that option).
