In-depth explanation and pro-level systematic approach! Fantastic tutorial, Reggie! More masterpiece like this please!! BTW, I just hope Fuji implements a feature in their firmware to automatically apply configurable settings(like a batch job) when switching to AF-C in-camera: Face Detection ON, 11 FPS, Wide tracking, mechanical shutter only, Track Mode(=2), Performance Boost. It will save me tons of energy every time I switch to continuous AF.

@@Reggiebphoto different things: first: that I also discovered having AF-S in low light to be more precise (shooting Fuji since some weddings now, coming from Sony). Second: I also typically used set 2 with AF-C but I will try set 5 for erratic movement in future. Did not think out changing that during a wedding. Also the settings for movement across the frame very interesting. My setup: 2x X-T4 with 18/1.4 + 35/2 + 50/1.0

You sold me the video at "or you're... a dad". Most of the time I shoot my daughter and I keep the camera in AF-C wide tracking with the focus point centered. Eye AF on. I lock the center of the frame to my target and quickly compose the scene while it's tracking at the same time. In portrait orientation the focus point is in the middle of the upper side of the frame of course. I'm glad that Fuji saves the location for different orientations.

Interesting that you use the 3x3 Zone AF for fast paced low light shots. Sounds like a similar scenario in sports where I might be trying to capture the action in a game versus isolating on one player. Usually I stick to single point focus, but this might be worth a try.

Hi Reggie. I've been looking for a video like this for weeks! I'm actually thinking about change my Sony A7C to a Fuji XT4 (love the fuji colours and controls), but I do low light events and use a lot the (unbelievably) afc live tracking. I know that the fuji one is not as straightforward as the sony, but it seems to work. I use it to acquire focus and recompose in the frame (in the concerts, the composition changes very fast), it's possible to do it with the xt4 and 2.8 zooms? Thank you for doing the best video for us who shoot low light events!

  • @Reggiebphoto

For groups - it’s most important that you line them up as close to a single plane of focus (one row or multiple rows in a straight line) and choose an appropriate aperture for that group. The af settings actually plays the least importance for a group portrait. If set up right, you can pick one person in the middle of the frame/middle row and everyone will be in focus.
