Sounds like an opportunity to finally trie the soul food thing I've heard so much about... It's about time to introduce this to the Netherlands since it's proven to be the gateway to Europe. When the Dutch like it (no doubt they will), there's a great change it will spread to the rest of Europe. Good work!

Thank you for posting this. I live in Utrecht and never had the desire to go to Amsterdam because it’s way too touristy but always wanted to try typical American fried chicken. I will definitely drop by Ladybird.

Noah is so down to earth, I really enjoyed hearing his perspectives on the restaurant! So great to hear from one of the minds behind the business; it just makes me want to continue to eat here and tell everyone about it. My hope is they blow up so big they will get a bigger restaurant and no more having to stand in line to get in! 😀 Loved hearing the history and also how long they have been influencing the Ams food scene! The chicken plate and the sides were all "just right"; they really know what they're doing because it was ALL delicious! Thanks again Sam for another quality video, GREAT content as usual! Hugs!!

Hey man! I am following your channel for a while now and thanks again for this super cool video. What an excellent interview. This is like 5 minutes from my home but I didn't know about this restaurant! I am going to try a taste real soon! I recommend another restaurant close by in the Gerard Doustraat, Spang Makandra. That is truly one of the best Surinam food in this town! Again, food which has a link to slavery. Keep up the nice content and enjoy your time here in the Low Lands! Greets from Amsterdam.

;-) how did you know my my mouth is watering? Great video again. I think I will check out this restaurant Ladybird soon. Allways in to try new tastes. Btw have you tried Tjon express? We sometimes get roti from them, but we also like to cook it ourselfs. I learned to cook it from the wife of one of my fellow conscript soldiers in 1975 while doing my military service in Amsterdam in the Oranje Nassau Kazerne (now houses). I was with a lot of soldiers that came directly from Surinam in those days. Eating roti always makes me remember them, with a big smile on my face.

@@exploringtheforeign It's Surinames food. In similarity to the US soulfood, developed by all kind of unvoluntary to the new continent moved people from Africa and other continents. Surinamese food has influences from Indonesia and India too.
I grew up in Amsterdam Zuidoost with a pretty large population of people from Surinam and the Antilles and I think Bijlmerplein is one of the few places in NL where the KFC was more popular then Mc Donald's

Wish I had seen this video earlier. I just visited the Netherlands and was looking for fried chicken and went to a different restaurant. And again a very nice video Sam ! But ehmm, how about Vega and Vegan people and their needs...? I mean I really am tempted to go there, but if the only thing they've got there is dead animal related....well in that case: thanks but no thanks ! I mean I like the man's story and I am all in for it... but having an excellent Vega and Vegan alternative in 2023 is a must I'd say. So why the emphasis on chicken and on chicken only...? I mean, com on now, that's kinda outdated... I understand the man's motivation and dedication to the women he referred to, but you can have that same dedication to those women with a modern Vega /Vegan alternative... It actually shows that you're part of the future and how far you've come as an offspring of those women, right? So you've escaped the history and you developed in to a 2023 world citizen.

Chefs...fry chicken! Yeah right.
Does the chicken taste different/better due to the quality as well. US factory farming isnt a thing there.

That's their plan, to open up more!😁
Wafles are actually European, to be more precise from Belgium and the Netherlands. You won't steal that from us! haha The chicken and waffles thing, also from those 2 countries, you can't call it your own if someone did that before you. It tastes different because it's actually from here to start with, America changes the recipe like so many things ;) It would be a very bad thing to say such things and actually hinting towards bigotry and racism where there is none. Also keep that sort of talk in the US, we don't want that here, its actually illegal by law.
Well well well - 👴
I went here because of this video, the place looks really nice and was packed. The chicken was really nice and moist. However to be completely honest, and I need to add I never had real soul food so I don't know what is supposed to be like, I found it pretty underwhelming. The mac and cheese was okay, but nothing special. The chicken, although moist was not crispy at all. But again, I never had soul food so maybe I don't know what to expect, but I was expecting more I guess.
