Been wanting to try film cameras and had no idea where to start. After seeing this short, dropped $200 on a Canonet 28, portra films and some old batteries. Thanks Moment for pushing me to make impulsive buying decisions 😅

I would strongly recommend the Canonet QL17 Giii just because it easier to find but having that 1.7 aperture helps a lot too

The QL17 Giii was one of the best piece of camera equipment ive ever owned. I “wasted” the most rolls in that camera. Since the exact battery type was hard to find, it really pushed me to learn manual exposure in my head lmao. This camera also made me fell in love with rangefinders. Would recommend.
I had one in Saigon in 1973. Still have it. Keep those battery compartments empty when storing these.
Would strongly recommend the Canon AE-1, have been shooting with it a lot. The reason i would prefer the AE-1, is largely because you can change the lens and it has a built in light meter. But everything is a preference, and keep on shooting film!
I picked up a Canonet 28 for $10 about a decade ago. I like how simple it is, however, the F2.8 is really best for outdoor shots. The auto metering keeps you from snapping away if there isn't enough light. Definitely needs a flash or you'll miss shots.
OMG that’s a beautiful set of photos 😮
I have the Canonet QL17 Giii and love it! This camera hase the exact same vibes!
Strongly recommend the Olympus 35 SP, very similar but can shoot manually as well + spot metering.
Bro really said “1971”
Im not sure but i think this is one of the many cameras used by combat correspondants during the Vietnam war. So if you really wanted to this camera would be great for a late war Vietnam combat correspondant impression.
you can pick up 90s electronic film cameras and those are truly the best for beginners imo
Got one. It really nice to shot with it.

Yo I've actually been to that barn spot at the Tetons! Sick spot

My favourite of my 35mm cameras. Its awesome
I got a 1985 Canon AE-1 Program in working order, which can be used as a point and shoot, along with a 35-70 f4 and a 70-210 f4 all for $100
Are these photos from a 1971 cam wtf thats incredible
Nice photos.
I just picked up a Pentax SP500 with an SMC 55 f/2 for $80 Canadian pesos, and I love it.

Picked up my old Canon Pellix QL for $80 the dude was original owner and brought it home from Japan I couldn’t believe the luck I had to have it also came with a 58mm F1.2 lens 🙏🙏
literally 📸
Awesome camera for casual photography! What's more I paid only about $15 for mine, WITH a flash that is - what a steal!
Love this
Unfortunately the shutter speed is locked at 1/30 if there is no battery or the light meter is broken. This is because it relies on the light meter for choosing a shutter speed. This is what happened to mine.
Eh. I got a Nikon Em for $40 with an Albinar ADG 80mm-200mm Macro lens attached on eBay. I just spent the last 2 days going out and shooting with it and it was super fun. I went to a wash (area where water goes when it rains) near my house and took some pics of birds and the mountains near me. I got a pretty good picture of a quail, I think. I haven’t developed the film yet but it looked good through my lens. My camera is an SLR which is far superior to any rangefinder camera. Even if it’s not the best SLR camera you can get, rangefinder cameras suck because what you see isn’t aligned with the lens like an SLR is. Update: I got my photos back from the film I developed and they came out great.
Pentax k1000 for $80 was my choice
@StrataGz
Жыл бұрын
was it good?
I'd say Yashica electro 35 is a good starting camera
I have 2 of the original 1961 canonet. One operational with a broken meter, and the other for part cause it has a good meter
I recommend the Pentax k-1000
But THE BATTERIES
THE APERATURE SETTINGS WORK WITHOUT FLASH IS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND GIVE BETTER CONTROL OVER EFFECTS.
Suggest the zorki 4k
Have the original Canonet, was given to me by my step dad. Was his father's before he passed away
That's the Pecker (movie) camera.
I got a Minolta x700 and it was the best thing you could buy for around $100 in my opinion
Will it be good for a total beginner to start making photos?
Do you edit your analog shots?
And where did you shoot these photos, the ones in nature?

i think it's better to get the ql17 2nd gen since it's still made in Japan rather than the GIII that mostly made in Taiwan
Does it work well for lo light, im trying to find a film camera without a flash thatd be good for concert photography?
i want one to take photos of cars
You can’t use the manual aperture controls along with shutter speed on these? I have a canon Demi and its manual with a bad light meter
You can find newer P&S cameras with more features that are a lot easier to find for about $25
Had this camera.... didn't even need batteries 😅😅😅
If I use it on automatic mode should I adjust the focus ?
What is your style of scanning film? Pls answer🥺
I strongly disagree, respectfully. Not only is it unrealistic to find a fully functioning copy under $100, a rangefinder is not what I would recommend to a beginner. There are several automatic-exposure SLR’s that are more affordable, more comfortable/ergonomic, and more encouraging of expanding on basic photographic fundamentals.

The Canonet already has a reputation for being a high quality camera for a very low price, sometimes being referred to as a "poor man's Leica." I doubt a Moment short will change that drastically.
