See mine just pulled the non spill thing out when I tried a similar water bowl...

I really wish I had known about all of the first aid things before. Maybe they would’ve saved our boy last summer. I feel like our vet really let us down when these sorts of things really could’ve given him the fighting chance he deserved before it was too late and without suffering the way he did. He fought for his entire life it seemed and they just wanted to pump him full of medicine that never seemed to fix anything.

Our first family ferret died from multiple diseases at three months old, two weeks after we got him from pet smart he died... we are (probably) getting two new ones from a much better place who keep their ferrets very healthy and happy! (R.I.P. Carrlouse)

I can't wait until I move out into my own apartment. I've been waiting on getting ferrets so when I have them I can let them free roam my whole apartment, just like a cat or dog would.

Keep all the cardboard boxes the stuff comes in - the ferrets will enjoy them more than any toy! 😀😀

We do this, and all boxes go to recycling on Mondays and then we collect new boxes for the week, changes it up. Occasionally we will get a special box, either flat or long tube like, those I keep longer, lol

For the ''stashable'' toys, I recommend dog toys. In particular the kong plushies, they are very sturdy and the stitching is very hard to break even for big chewers. Mine loves to chew on his toys (and destroyed severals) but dog toys tend to last longer than cat ones or regular plushies.

Just got a tote and put rice in it so he can dig. He loves it!!! And agree, tubes are like ferret crack.😃

As someone who has had to have an ER visit for my ferret in the past, I honestly reccommend setting aside at least $1,000 for emergency funds. Sadly because they are still considered exotic, most places upcharge. We found that out the hard way(our ER vet bill was $957). I would say $1,000 is a good safety net, especially if for some reason your ferret needs multiple x-rays, medications, or overnight vet visits. I loved your video though, you could own ferrets for years but always learn something! For sure going to purchase that air filter!

I been in ferret rescue for 11 yrs. Your videos are terrific, thank you. I would like to add a comment about the plastic back pack, i have one and love it, but you might warn viewers to be aware of ferrets overheating or going into heat stroke. If viewers are going to takw ferret out in temps great than 65F, have more than 1 ferret in carrier, or are out in midday sun, they might want to consider a more ventilated version. My spinal cord baby loves to look out the windows when i drive. i strap her clear plastic backpack to headrest and open a window and she is one happy ferret!!

this helps so much. im the youngest in the family by far and im the only one who tries to keep my ferrets healthy and have a good life. im too young to get a job rn so i have to do a lot of work around the house to get very little money. you put many affordable things in her that will be easy for me to get. im also the only one doing research to help them get a better life. overall this helps a lot

Don’t trust everything you see in the video especially the amazing list. Marshall’s products are horrible the food,shampoo,medicine just anything they make is bad they also inbreed ferrets (those ferrets have a blue tattoo on their ears). They just don’t care for ferrets

Was thinking about buying a ferret watched lot of this think I'm ready for one now.

I have got to get that ball. Holy cow. I have a baby who would love that. You’ve given me a lot of ideas! I love that little tunnel/box situation. But most of all...thank you for adding the extra information towards the end that was based on healthcare and emergency situation. You never know when you might be in need! So thank you :) I think the feeding/powder is something I’ll have to look up. That’s a product I haven’t heard of before and it could’ve helped me in the past. Thanks guys! Keep it up :)))

@@TheModernFerret yes! I’ve heard they see in red! My husband says this is because they are true hunters :P and yes, very true...when they get sick, they go downhill SO fast! Info on ferrets is not common and you really have to search for products and knowledge. Really appreciate you letting us know what you find :) 🤙🌸

If your ferret has a high-chase drive, it'll be a blast! Make sure to get red - apparently they see that color best. Here is the exact one I got: amzn.to/3b0bA8K

My ferrets love empty plastic water bottles to play with. Either full or air let out and cap tightly back on, they will bite and crinkle and stash away a whole bunch in their secret places hahha. They do love tubing. I never had a problem with mine drinking from pet water bottles in cage. Also, vaseline helped my boy once when he was badly obstructed bcse of his love of foam and rubber. Thank you on new info regarding food quality and carnivore care. Great video!!!

I have multiple Tupperware containers, big low to the ground ones, and cut a whole in them and fil it with straws, rubber ducks, paper, they love it!

#themodernferret I love watching your videos! Your ferrets are so stinking cute and you are so informative! We adopted 2 ferrets over the summer and are so in love with them! One thing I've notice I'm having a hard time finding is a good gate. Most of the ones I've come across are not conducive to ferrets (they climb the normal baby gates, and others have a space at the bottom where they can crawl right under). Do you have any recommendations on a good gate for our mischievous little noodles (Rocket and Alfredo)?

You can’t get a permit for ferrets in California unless you are somebody who is going to use it in a scientific matter, or for expositions and exhibiting purposes really. I’d contact fish and game about exotic animal questions and your city hall and laws in your area.

When my ferret, Bruce, was alive, we fed him a cat food. I don’t know what it is called, though. We also got him a marshals freeway tunnel, and he LOVED it. He went crazy in it. He passed away at the age of one from insolimona. It is really sad, but he is in heaven now. 😇

My solution for water spillage is to place the water bowl on a beach towel. Playing with the water is something my ferret enjoys and it keeps her busy for a few minutes!

Ferrets are huge responsibilities that not all apartments accept. They are wonderful, but very expensive pets. And 7 to 9 year commitments. Not necessarily ideal pets for broke college students, or new apartment dwellers. Apartments may not accept them, and if they do you may lose your deposit for destruction of carpet. I dont recommend for young adults moving out, its probably why there aren't videos convincing parents to get them for young people. Seasoned ferret owners are concerned about parents having to rehome ferrets or teenagers not having the knowledge to take care of complicated issues, like impaction and insulinoma. Few young people have the money and responsibility to take care of ferrets.

this helped me so much :D Im planning on getting TWO lil ferrets around christmas time, i have the ferret/critter nation cage already? not sure what its called but its huge. They will of course have at least 6+ hours of free roam Daily and lots more on weekends, any tips on training them for litter boxes?

I recently got another ferret and when he poops in the cage, he lifts his feet up and kind of like does a little hand stand while he poops and it shoots out of the cage!! How do I make him not do that??

I would maybe recommend taping up a pee pad halfway or 1/3 of the way up on the inside of your cage under the litter

I use custom made litter boxes from Walmart Tupperware boxes. Using my dremel to cut a short front (as this video recommends). Buy box that fits area u need inside or out of cage, cut front short & sand SMOOTH & I use 1 section of newspaper per box changes 1x 2x daily. Hope that helps.

if you put your mouth on the cage then you wont need to clean up!

So I have a big digger. Loooves to dig at the water bowl especially. I've tried multiple bowls and when I saw the no spill one you recommended, I honestly thought it would work since the hole is too small to get his paws in there. Didn't work, he tipped the whole thing over! I am at a loss lol I hate using bottles

One things I like using for the bathroom when I run out of the pee-pad is just news paper. Also for clippers I like using the one I use for my rabbit.

Emergency vet here (after 8-15 and in weekends) cost 700$ just to meet up, and treatment is a lot more expensive too. If you don't have money and only come to euthanize it will still cost 1000$. Norway is a joke when it comes to veterinary care, it's such a shame. A friend of mine paid over TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS for surgery on her rat, she had to take up loan for that
