Bottom brackets can be a huge issue...on a normal bike. The Rocky Mountain Dyname 4 is the only motor in this field of bikes that allows the bottom bracket to be replaced without removing the motor and/or the disassembly of motor. That really is advantageous. That said, they're all great bikes and I would take any if so offered.

Super cool video! I’ve been lucky to try a handful of them, and I agree I like the specialized the most. The motor feeling, the power, so quiet and the display is so useful. You can customize it the way you need and check any data.

Great video again, thanks Sam. I have a Bosch CX and a Levo. On the super steep stuff in turbo the Bosch is noticeable less punchy than the Brose, and the Brose has a much smoother engagement. Sometimes on the Bosch i start pedaling and look down thinking I'm in tour when I'm actually in Eco. Hitting the limiter and cycling along at 25kph is also a much smoother experience on the Brose. The Bosch can be quite on-off at the limit, but only sometimes! Biggest thing for me is the noise though. The Bosch is very very noisy compared to the Brose, and the tone of the Brose is a much nicer sound with the belt, and zero rattle downhill. If it had better water ingress protection and maybe a bit smaller it would be the perfect motor imo

@@SamsBikesIf you really want the smoothest, Quietest powerful most Natural Emtb ever you need to go back to the Brose 1.3 aluminium 90Nm 2018 motor. Simply remove the cranks add two X ring seals to outside of shafts. This motor has identical internal components to the later Brose but quieter, smooth and more punchy at lower cadence because they have not stuffed around with the software to prevent belt failures. It's simply feels much better than the latest Brose .E=Mtb²

Awesome review again. You just keep banging out great content. Thank you! I have both EP8 and Bosch powered bikes. I also have ridden every motor out there. The EP8 I feel is a great motor, but it needs to be on full boost to to really feel like a decent motor. Also, you can the EP8 motor begin to cut power/assist around 15-16 mph. BUT, without question...I look forward and like riding the Bosch CX better than any motor out there. Put it on emtb mode and it is like butter. Plenty of power, good useable power, awesome feeling motor that pulls right to 19.9 mph. No other motor feels like a Bosch or as good as a Bosch to me. Hands down the best emtb motor on the planet.

The thing that should concern anyone about to drop $5-8k on an e-bike, is the complete lack of battery standardization. You can pull a human powered bike out of the garage after 15 years and just ride it. What happens to all of these boutique electric machines when batteries, BlueTooth, and component tech has moved on? Just a thought.

Possibly worse is the water ingestion problems. Complaints about even being cautious (not sinking motor) are common. Observations like this from motor repair centers.

I for one don't ever plan on keeping my bike 15 years, I'm pretty sure I won't even make it to the point where my battery gets below 90% degradation before I get a newer model...so yeah I'm not concerned.

Hi, Thank you for the test. I plan add e-MTB to my bike portfolio, so I am happy about the info you provided. Looking forward to your battery test too. Anyhow I am impressed with Pinion motor. Would be nice to include this one too. Recently I discovered that HiFi brand of my childhood joined the e-MTB party and tested Kellys with Panasonic motor. It was super, but I was first real e-MTB experience so I need to test more motors to make final decision.

👍Nice test....as always😋👏. The Over run and power is the winner in competitions, as always and interests the one who always wants to be first up. Shimano's display is a vulnerable source of error that gets in the way when you use the stem to guide the bike and should have been gone 5 years ago. Automatic shifting wears on the cassette, chain and 'sorry' should only exist for the disabled and for people who don't like cycling. These advanced Apps and all their possibilities only make it for those who have decision anxiety. If you want to cycle Socially, you choose the right company and not the one who spends more time on their phone by talking, taking selfies or spending time on their App😅. Thanks SAM for another interesting review😁

I think Specialized Brose 2022+ is the best motor out there, but it's not the most reliable, especially with a speed cut device. I shredded a belt at about 1500 miles of trail riding, and Specialized denied warranty because they could tell it was speed cut bypassed, but there are aftermarket upgrade/rebuild/repair options with a carbon fiber reinforced belt and upgraded sprag, which is what I did. Bosch CX 2019+ is the best for a speed cut device, because there is no belt to fail. You have to be careful with water ingress on CX, because they have a terribly designed felt/grease seal. The CX can be improved with a dual lip seal in place of the felt one.

Great video. I'm looking at 2 bikes, one has Bosch CX GEN 4 the other Specialised 2.0 To me everything is equal between both bikes but one non-Specialised dealer advised against Specialised motors as they are unreliable and believes the manufacturer will fit 3rd party motors in the near future. I don't know if that was just a sales pitch to buy his bike. Are Specialised motors any less reliable? I hate taking advice from salesmen!

So let's try out to trump your review with some extras: (i) If you feel the need for speed in uphill and whatever, there is no better motor than the Aden Sports Powerkit Sport. Add that one to your mtb and you'll thrash all emtbs and even some e-motorbikes up till 43km/h. Fantastic fun to drive, but beware, you can easily drop off because of its monstrous acceleration. (ii) If you want integration and low maintenance, high tech and state of the art weight distribution, you can't beat the Pinion MGU e1.12. With smart shift automation, we're almost in set and forget paradise. (iii) If you need technical help in difficult uphills, the Bosch Motors can help you out with these back and force small peddle movements that count as half a turn and will allow you to overcome obstacles without the need for inadequate positions of your feet and peddles. (iv) noise level and lowkey support favors the TQ system - or similar. I haven't tried different options yet. What are the specific advantages I missed? I'm curious!
