Aged more than any other expression, the extra anejo tequila is the ultimate sipping tequila that can compare to high end whiskey, scotch, and bourbon. This list reveals the best five extra anejo tequilas and also delves into a few more to give you insight on the best sipping tequilas in the extra anejo category for the year 2021 and prior.
How Did We Determine the Best Extra Anejo Tequilas?
Simply put, a lot of time drinking the best sipping tequilas money can buy! I've been sipping tequila and studying agave since about 2014 as a hobby, and have gained momentum each year. I've slowly been generating tequila reviews on KZread (And both written and published on www.TequilaReviews.com) and aim to provide insight and entertainment for anyone who is a fan of tequila.
I personally celebrate all expressions of tequila, but as you get acquainted with my library of tequila reviews, you'll see I really gravitate towards the extra anejo sipping tequilas. They are my absolute favorite and my go-to sipper late night, so you'll be able to find plenty of content focused on extra anejo tequila reviews if that's your jam.

What Does "Extra Anejo" Tequila Exactly Mean?
Extra anejo tequila is made from agave aged no less than three years. You'll see them aged in barrels ranging from American Oak, to French Oak, and more. This all changes the flavor profile and aroma's you'll take in (the nose), much like in other categories of spirits, tequila can get highly sophisticated!

Awesome video dude, I recently discovered that tequila is way more than a clear white spirit. Unfortunately some of them are quite pricey but I got my padre azul extra anejo from my dad for Christmas. I think it’s a Good entry point for extra anejos.

Awesome video. Appreciate the honesty! Tapatio XA is my all time favorite especially for the value. Terralta XA and Diablito XA are 2 that are I love that are not on your list. Thanks for sharing!

Diablito XA is my favorite. Really want to try Tequila Ocho XA
The Reserva De La Familia XA has additives in it if I'm not mistaken. There is one version made with a blue box (not the pink box) that doesn't have additives but it's much harder to find. I stay away from any tequila with additives in it. A tactic by the distillery to sweeten it up artificially

There's conflicting information on the additive topic for sure. TMM doesn't have it as additive free but a lot of other publications do. I'd always side with TMM, to be safe. I'm in the same mindset regarding additives.
Cazcanes is such a gorgeous looking bottle with great juice inside

I completely agree! I hadn't had this brand until 2021 and it's quickly become one of my favorites. Stay tuned for the Blanco review, it's incredible!

G4 makes very high quality products, I'm a huge fan of all their expressions!
If you ever get the opportunity without paying an arm and a leg, the El Tesoro 70th anniversary is amazing (and very hard to find). I haven't done a side by side with Tears yet but I plan to. It is a complex blend of differently aged XAs. Another one I was only able to get a mini bottle size sample of but was unique and incredible - Siembra Valles Elisa (barrel proof). Also very hard to find.

Has anyone heard or tried Regalo De Dios? I bought it in Cozumel for a steep price and have heard VERY mixed reviews. Some people saying it a scam and not what they market it as, and some say it’s great.

Thanks. I actually did a review on it many years ago, It's in the channel if you look deep enough. It was a bit sweet for me, likely due to being laced with additives.
Perfect selection. I'd only add the g4 55 month extra anejo and remove el Tesoro. Very rare list that most people don't know about good video just wish you showed one I didn't own lol

Enjoy your trip Tim. You'll find these are priced better in Mexico in most cases. I first had Jose Cuervo Reserva de la Familia EA (just a single shot to try it) in Cancun and it was very cheap compared to what you'll find for the same in the States. Have a good trip!
