Its time for the people to realize that Ethiopian opal quality grades exist, Mine run, A, AA , AAA. The stuff you have seen in piles at your annual gem show are are used to make dop sticks on this channel. Always the highest quality with this company never cracks never crazes. 3 figure kilos? add another zero. Buy it and try it, then try to deny it you simply cannot. The most underrated Gem out there and its going to change.

I thought ethiopal opal was known for cracking when it dries out? That probably has to do with its porous nature, while the quality of opal is judged by its appearance. having bright vivid colors on an ethiopian opal won't make it any less likely to crack. These aren't man made products and calling them "high quality" can't alter their inherent properties.

@@simonphoenix3789 I’ve never had an Ethiopian Opal crack on me when drying out, I’ve heard of it happening but I go through a reputable dealer.

I buy Ethiopian from you guys off eBay. Very Satisfied with the opals you sell. Thank you so much for making a reliable affordable source for my jewelry making. This one though is amazing, great job!
I'd REALLY recommand using two pieces of wood with a nice layer of semi-soft rubber instead of your fingers when cutting a stone so close to the edge.. nobody never had any accident like that until their first time, but when you cut of a part of your finger, or just injured nerval tissue, also at the very first time - trust me you'll miss the part for quite a long time.

cant help but think this one would have been even nicer with a nice high dome, so much material to work with. Lose some weight with dome yes, but gain viewing angle/face area and the color really rolls all the way over.

Ethiopian hydrophane opals are occasionally impregnated with polymers to reduce porosity and increase stability. Though the practice of stabilisation in these opals isn't currently widespread, it's definitely something to keep an eye out for.
Very nice gemstone! I love cutting Ethiopian and sometimes Australian ( when I can afford it). It’s incredibly rare to find a black one that large, you did a great job. I’ve cut a few chocolate/coffee colored ones (not the Shewa ones) and I like them, but not black like yours. Here’s looking forward to more cool opal videos!

is it possible with a thick piece to cut it at a angle face to where the angle makes the flat face the spot it shines color then cut away the other material having it now a different angle for the face than the flat dull side. can you try this?

@@shawnstatzer95if it’s Ethiopian then it needs to be kept moist or it will crack if it dries out too much. I sort of agree with you it does seem to not be an Australian Nobby with that distinctive white witches hat. Generally Australia has more white seam opal and not black. This is black seam opal and that’s an uncommon thing in Australia.

I bought my rough black opals from Australia. I have never cut, shaped, or polished opals, but I am thinking about it. Otherwise, I must pay someone to do it. I have cut Columbian emeralds, but I am thing about purchasing some rough. Great job and great video. Thanks.

Is this stone Ethiopian? Seen quite a few Australian black opals being cut but they didnt look the same as this gem. Yours is a very pretty stone no matter where its from. I wonder how much the price difference would be between a black Australian gem and an Ethiopian stone of the same size and quality? Thanks for a wonderful video 😊😊😊 😊

Why would you just not take out the rest of the sand? You’re limiting the mounting. And why so damn thick and not round over more? That thing is like an Oreo. What am I supposed to do with that, stick it in a belt buckle? I really feel like you’re working towards quantity, not quality.
