laughing at all the people here who spit the soup without having tasted it. I was at a Systema seminar where 2 guys (both hard style instructors) turned up on the second day having missed the ballistic punching part & pooh-poohed it all having never felt the power of those 'soft' blows. The master (Val Rhiazonov) treated them (both at once) to a chance to throw their jabs and kicks He stayed more or less in the same spot, laughing as they 'danced like flies' (his words). "And now I show you how easy it is to be dead" he said as he turned on the gas & had them both scuffed & puffed up against the wall suing for mercy in about 20 seconds. For all their good humour these guys have all done their time in war zones & when they show you the goods you see the cold hard killer behind their eyes. If you really believe its Bulshido put your money where your mouth is, go to a class with one of the masters & find out for yourself how easy it is to be dead when you judge a genuine martial art by ringside rules. You might just learn a thing or two.

I studied Systema for 3 years. There's a lot I used and still use. I used that stuff in war and as an armed professional protecting people. My favorite stuff (aside from zombie PT) was fighting in close quarters, using the environment against an opponent or group of opponents, and using anything in the environment against them like a pen, a rolled up magazine, a chair, even the damn desk I was sitting at. Truly brutal and painful and effective when applied correctly. I also agree with how Systema utilizes the kinetic chain to get maximum power and speed within tight spaces against a target. Systema is not the only martial art in the world, but combined with other skills and applied correctly, it is absolutely lethal and effective.

Its interesting that a lot of people see Systema as fake and want them to try it on other arts. I do not practice Systema, but I have been doing a lot of research on it. The way they train is really to avoid getting hit. The students move like they do, because they are learning to read what the opponent is doing. They or you don't want to be hit with a Systema punch, it causes a different type and level of pain, one that you try to avoid taking. Avoiding that pain is why the Systema student react the way they do so that they can avoid the consequences of being struck. I will put money on any non Systema person taking a Systema punch and see if they are willing to take a second one. After the first one they will have awkward body motions and not the smooth body contortions you see from a Systema student.

Every "combat master" that does dance around with the enemy while the enemy has a knife in his hand and not disarming, removing, taking the weapon from the enemy is the top priority: IS BULLSHIDO. at 0:57 he would have his kidney cut out easy. Never tried to grab the knife from the enemy in those clips, it just shows how failure of a combat system this is. 3:30 clip is a similar stupid example, not taking the knife, just bullshidoing around with each other. Its the worst, this is how you get killed and stabbed on the street real life.

So many negative comments about Systema is ridiculous…..these comments are from individuals with very closed minds. If you have experienced a class with Vladimir he will definitely convince you that he is more than an expert in self defence. This man has a highly developed skill and I have the ultimate respect for his very advanced skill level and Systema itself…..to all Systema practitioners I salute you. Thank you Vladimir for sharing your knowledge with me.

Systema actually is not "Russian" but an ancient Cossack martial art. There were Ukrainian Cossacks (from Zaporizhye) and Cossacks of river Don (the latter ones were outcasts, mercenaries, sometimes border guards and sometimes anti-Russian rebels in XIV-XIX centuries, living in outskirts of the Russian Empire). Most Cossacks fought against Marxists-Bolsheviks during the Civil War 1918-1921. Also, many Cossacks (over 100,000) fought against the Soviet Red Army in WW2. Cossacks disliked Soviet mass murders and other atrocities and were not on board with Stalin' GULAG death camps. Cossacks always wanted freedom instead. Systema as a Cossack martial art practically disappeared during the Soviet times, because the USSR was exterminating Cossacks (after Stalin's genocide of Cossacks out of 2,5 million only three thousand Cossacks have survived). Also, in the USSR most martial arts were illegal for its citizens to practice. It is a miracle (and heavy work of Mr. Kadochnikov) that Systema was restored, and - grand thank you to Vladimir Vasilyev - that Systema is now available for all people practically world-wide. It is a truly great and unique martial art, that has both tragic and beautiful history, the history of Cossacks' long struggle for freedom.

Same happens in the streets. The 80 % of all these is psychology and cannot be taught with pre fixed moves. What I know from the streets is that you NEVER engage with anyone cause EVERYONE could be your death so you get in a compact style of fight and release a combo in order to open a gap and RUN! I m really struggling to find a video close to reality and I can't...its only pre fixed moves...only Muay Thai looks decent that could save you because you're holding your space offensively. Defend offensively if that makes any sense... Its good to train your body and the mind with martial arts but never get in the delusion that any of that is actually gonna work with a real opponent, criminal or intoxicated armed person in real life. After the sparring they've got to watch videos in how many micro seconds they cut your throat or stab you while just talking in order to land to reality.
