The V60 & V90 Volvos are by far most beautiful, followed by Mercedes.

Also missing the Mazda 6 Sport Wagon on this list. I know you have to pick 5 but this is possibly best looking, sporty, spacious and reliable combo out there.

The Mazda is best avoided in diesel form. They have a bit of a reputation for a blocked oilway in the diesel, which sometimes results in a wrecked engine.....

i know its been 2 years, but first of all they probably advertise what they want to sell (diesel, really? as general recommendation?), other than that i wouldn't even put vw or skoda on the list, germans make pretty but shitty cars since the past 10 years (it's their name really and snobism that sells them), i mean as long as you're fine with getting a surprise repair bill of 3-10k euros that's ok but most people don't want to deal with engine or auto transmission replacement. sure if you get a new one and sell it before it's out of warranty... most of us can't afford to be that careless. for what's it worth a few french and some japanese/korean companies are worth to be on the list and that's pretty much it.

..they're also telling you that VW is a prestigious brand, one that is literally named "Peoples' Car"...Yeah, Mercedes and BMW I get that but really dont get the European fascination with a lukewarm, boring, not-so-reliable brand like VW and the premium it commands vs today's French or Italian cars, which often look better and are as comfortable and reliable.

Guys, have you seen Volvo V90 in the real life? On pictures it isn't something awesome, but in the real it looks fantastic! Trust me and run to your local Volvo dealership to see it!:)

Hmmmmmm. Those boot size figures very very dubious. Just watched your review of the new XC90 SUV and it reported the boot size with all seats folded as 1850. That makes nearly all the boots reviewed here as being of very similar size. is that true?

It will be interesting when diesel & petrol vehicle sales come to a close in 2030 according to our present P.M. following the COVID fiasco and those who manage to work from home just how many people will actually be able to buy an electric vehicle so the new car market will cease to exist, and those with the sensible money will be buying the last of the new petrol/ diesel motors or if affordable hy brids. Perhaps you should be looking at the lower end of the market and what we will be buying in 2030, it’s not far away.

If what you say is true, why are there considerable waiting lists for new electric cars now? Why are sales of them increasing each year? My uncle bought a new Triumph Toledo in 1974, at a cost of around £1500. He was flabbergasted at the cost, and wondered how on earth were people going to be able to buy a new car when they reached £2000? Everything costs more now than it did years ago. I think you're rather stating the obvious..... If what you say is true, then the new car market would have collapsed decades ago. A new Mini in 1972 was £600. Today it's £20k plus.... yet there's been no collapse in the new car market. It hasn't ceased to exist...... There will be plenty of used electric cars around in 2030 and beyond. There will be no need to buy new if you do not wish to do so..... I've seen used electric cars on sale recently for £6k and below.....

I can't get past the Civic Estate's unspeakably ugly bodywork...... I quite like some Volvo's, but the V90's "I'm a National Trust member" image puts me off a bit..... I've owned a few Skoda's, so the Superb would be my choice...
