    @@rsvpevents6780 I’m in Tokyo now actually. We used Ubigi and it’s been great. Easy to setup before you leave and it was working as soon as you landed. It’s data only though. Apparently getting a voice number is tricky here so we just used WhatsApp. Another thing to look into is getting a Suica card on your phone. That also saved us a ton of time and it’s very easy to use for JR and subways etc. Lots of convenience stores also accept it as payment. Lastly, if you are traveling with big suitcases, you can have them shipped to your hotel (and back to the airport). We used a service called Yamato Transport (black cat). Hav3 a great trip.

    We used Airalo for data only in our 10 day trip to Japan last month. We were very pleased with the simplicity of eSIM and the coverage, though our travel was limited to the major metro areas (Tokyo, Osaka, Nara, Hiroshima, Kyoto). We found that the 2 week plan was perfect. They must have a grace period, since we got an email 2 weeks after coming home telling us that we had 3 more days to top off our plan. Love your channel and we'll be using your affiliate links when we start making reservations for our trip to Japan needy year. If you have multiple people in a family traveling together to Japan, would eSIMs on each phone work better than all sharing one pocket WiFi?

  • @KenshoQuest

    @KenshoQuest

    8 ай бұрын

    Hi, and thank you so much :) Yes, if you have multiple people what makes having eSIMs better than a pocket wifi is that you can travel separately and still have internet. Whereas with a pocket wifi you all need to be in the nera vicinity of eath other in order for internet to work. So, pocket wifi is great if you have young kids like us or if you will always be in group. Otherwise, it is hard to be eSIM.

    Just an FYI for anyone with a newly purchased eSIM only, US based phone. If you’re on ATT and on an installment plan, you can’t use an eSIM outside the US unless you pay it off before your trip. Then they would unlock it. Not sure about other carriers like Tmo or Verizon, but I assume it would be the same.

I am going to travel for just 14 days, but the 30-day plan with Ubigi seems pretty nice, with 3 GB for 8€. One question: in case you consume all the 3 GB, would you still have the chance to navigate at a low-speed connection?

  • @KenshoQuest

    @KenshoQuest

    3 ай бұрын

    Hi, while I cannot find the documentation on Ubigi, pretty much every eSIM that I have tried does allow continued usage with slow data. However, in my experience it is usually painfully slow. However, you can top up, if you need. Also, 3GB might not be enough for 14 days unless very minimal use.

  • @KenshoQuest

    @KenshoQuest

    Hi, Yes they will. Every mobile carrier that doesn't own their network - ( MVNOs, and resellers ) - which is almost every single eSIM carrier including the 3 reviewed in this video are under the fair usage policy, which means if the network provider, NTT Docomo ( not Mobal ) can throttle you if they feel you are using a large amount of data ( probably between 3-5GB ) over a short period of time. This did not happen to us with Mobal but it certainly can. If it does, the reset usually happens around 11pm - midnight.

    Hi, great question! You do not need to remove your mobile carrier's sim card while you are using an eSIM. You have the option to disable it but depending on your phone you most likely will be able to have both your physical SIM as well as your eSIM active at the same time... If you want :)

    Hi, funny thing. I cut your question out of the video because I thought it was getting too long 😜! You do not need to put your phone on airplane mode. Instead there is a switch called Data Switching. You can turn that off from your main line. Once that is off, your phone will never switch to use your US Carrier. I hope this is clear. Hello, I was thinking of taking the Moral eSIM for my trip next March. Since, what they send is an activation link, can I order now in case of a price raise and only activate it the day of departure or can I wait the last moment to purchase it?

  • @KenshoQuest

    @KenshoQuest

    8 ай бұрын

    Hi, great question. I do not know how long you have to activate but as an example. I waited over a month before I activate my Mobal eSIM. What is important is once you have your activation code issued, you need to install it and activate within 3 days. Otherwise, your plan will start regardless. So make sure you are ready to use it when you have your code issued. You can certainly purchase at last minute as well. It takes about 15 minutes for your activation code to be issued. But take into consideration that they have server downtime on Tuesday nights from 2200 Japan time.

    Hi, great question. It depends on who you sign up with. Every carrier has a different way of doing things. But it is best to buy and install close to your trip date as most will auto-activate after a few days. As far as data usage, without knowing what you will use your data for, it is impossible to answer. But if you will only be using for maps, light internet and social media, then 10 GB should last you a month. For me, I would need at least 50GB as I use a lot of data.

    Hi, here are a couple of things that can help: 1) Try to use WiFi whenever possible, so have your WiFi on. 2) On an iPhone you can disable apps that use data. So if you know of a particular app that uses a lot of data such as a web browser or KZread, you can disable access to it from your cellular data eSIM. You can find this under cellular settings. The bad thing about eSIM is that you can't stop other devices from tracking your phone. See, tracking a phone is done by tracking the physical SIM card, so to avoid this, one simply removes the SIM card from the phone and toss it away. If the SIM is embedded hardware-wise, though, one has to toss away the phone, instead.

    Hi, I'm not certain I understand your question bu there goes: It depends... when using eSIMs, your phone should have the capability to have more than one eSIM at a time. However, depending on your phone make/model, will determine whether or not you can have more than one eSIM active at once. So, when you add a new eSIM DO NOT DELETE YOUR CURRENT eSIM, instead add a new one. Then choose it as Active. As mentioned above, this might make your original eSIM inactive. If this is the case, then your phone only allows one active at once. So if you need to use your original. You can go through the settings and change your active eSIM back to your original. Now, if your phone as a regular physical sim as well as eSIM, then you can most likely have both active at once, this is called dual SIM capability.

    Hi, if your phone has the option for more than one eSIM then it will add it as a new one. Otherwise, it will ask you first if you want to deactivate your current one. You can certainly deactivate your current one if you don't need it while in Japan. Then once your trip is over you can reactivate your home eSIM and delete your Japan eSIM. Just be careful to not delete your current eSIM in the process. You. won't incur any additional charges if you activate in the UK, though each carrier is different, so please check when the activation actually happens. In many cases you can install and will not activate until you receive a signal from a Japanese carrier, meaning it will not activate until you are in Japan. Others, like Mobal will activate within 3 days of installation.

    Hi, it depends on where you purchase it from and where you are going. I am assuming you are going to Japan so with the 3 companies I discussed in the video, you can purchase now. But, do not install until you are closer to your travel date asa again each of these companies have different rules. Let me know if you have further questions.

    @@johnrivera2615 When in SE Asia we only use eSIMs for brief periods of time, and only if we need them. Instead, it is best to buy on the spot at the airport or once in town. Reason is almost all eSIMs are data only. Whereas if you buy once in the SE Asia country you can buy an eSIM with a phone number and practically unlimited data for much less! It's very easy to do. Just have your passport in hand. The airport is the easiest place to do this, however you might pay a slightly higher fee. Holafly is overrated in my humble opinion, especially in SE Asia for reasons I just mentioned. I hope this helps!

    So I used an eSIM for a trip to Paris recently and it worked great except for one issue . My credit card (Mastercard) will occasionally use Secure Code security authorization for payment which means it will send you a pin # verification via SMS text which I could not get because my eSIM did not have cellular. I have a trip to Japan coming up soon and don’t want to have the same issue I called my credit card company to see if I could turn off this feature and they said that’s not possible. So does that mean I will have to get a physical SIM card option instead for cellular and data? Doesn’t it give you a foreign number and not your own or no?

    Hi, both can work with Ubigi and Airalo since they both offer global or Asia plans that will cover both countries. So it's great for convenience. But take into consideration that in Thailand it is much easier and cheaper to get a SIM/eSIM on the spot. Also, in Thailand it can sometimes be easy to get an eSIM with a Thai number as well. Just have your passport ready, you can do this at the airport.

    Hi, it depends on if you plan to share your internet with other devices regularly then a pocket WiFi is better as it will be overall cheaper and you won’t have to worry about you phone getting hot and losing battery quickly. Hello, we are going to Japan in late May of 2024 for 11 days with my kids, who are teenagers. Do I get esim card for each person or just a pocket wifi or both? I need data for getting signal during subway/train. Also, need data during traveling time because we will be on a land tour on the second week so we can watch videos or play games during that period. What do you recommend?

  • @KenshoQuest

    @KenshoQuest

    5 ай бұрын

    Hi, great questions. If your kids are going to be together the whole time then one pocket wifi would work great since it can work as a hotspot and usually connect 10 or more devices. Also, pocket wifis usually have a lot more data which makes it great for watching videos and playing online games. The one caveat with a pocket wifi, you need to be in the vicinity for it to get a signal. If you are all going separate ways at times and need internet then individual eSIMs are a great option. However, each device needs to be unlocked and eSIM compatible. You might want to watch this video for more information about choosing between a pocket wifi and sim: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZJqcxrZphcXendI.html Let us know if you have further questions and have a great trip!
