Back in episode 7, Fern mentions to Frieren that Aura came back into power around 28 years ago. She went into hiding for 50 years because she was still scared of Himmel, even into his old age. My man was Him until the very end.

Frieren being calm savage when ordering Aura to kill herself was incredible to see.

Good catch on noticing the fact his son was added to Aura’s army. A lot of reactors didn’t notice the necklace was the same or didn’t mention it.

The fights we have in this anime are amazing, the animation is breathtaking the ost’s are beautiful. Honestly one of the greatest anime

as a german i just love how every single name of every city, place or person is just a german word discribing the character or place i just a sweet short way. this stuff is brilliant :D

80 years ago, Frieren brew the dead men away with flashy spell. Demon at ep7 said "the village chief is gone now." Demon at ep9 said "Himmel is long gone, isn't he?" Now Frieren treat heroes of northern lands with respect. At ep11, When Frieren see "normal reaction of human" of her students, It reminds us that one of the purposes of her journey was to learn about humans.

Love the reaction! Also a really interesting fact about Aura, when she said "Himmel is long gone, right?" It might seem she's taunting Frieren but in actuality this shows how much she underestimates Frieren. Last episode they said, Aura rised up in power again 28 years ago. And in the current timeline, it's been 28 years since the death of Himmel the Hero. Which means she only gathered up her strength after Himmel died. So the threat she only acknowledges is Himmel.

On episode 9, since Fern's left shoulder was hurt by Lugner, she only uses her right arm to fire attacks the entire fight. The details....

This is the fifth time I've seen the fight against Aura and her lackeys. I dropped in because you were covering the whole arc. Never gets old.

Linie seems like a very young demon compared to the others, so someone like her who can copy the fighting styles, will be more dangerous the longer she lives 😅

The detail I quite like that gets overlooked is that Heiter says she has 1/5 of his mana. Aura says that Frieren seemingly has a hundred years or so of training, which means Heiter has a manapool of 500 year old mage, not bad himself!

True enough.... but folks who do these "equations" keep forgetting one thing (I've seen many a comment saying Freiren has like twice Heiter's mana). Time. Freiren is showing one fifth of Heiter's mana, 80 years ago from anime present. AFTER training herself for a thousand years, at the very start of which she was displaying one-tenth of her own mana. If you do a rough visual comparison from what Flamme saw to what she showed Aura, Freiren's mana has at least QUINTUPLED in that time. Meaning the actual gap is much, much larger; Freiren actually possesses at least ten times Heiter's mana. That's not to say Heiter isn't a beast in his own right; he is. He possesses (possessed? 😭) an astounding amount of mana for a human. All four of the members of the Hero's party were amazing. (This is all based on the manga and anime, by the way, I haven't read the novels, though I intend to.) But, as it turns out, Freiren's suppressing of her mana has completely misled much of the audience as well! 😆

@@DerrelliThePyro Not sure I'm following. It's not necessarily true that to an outside observer Frieren supressed at the start and by the modern times looks exactly the same. Like, other mages still see her as very strong, even supressed, so I don't think she's showing off 1% total or anything. Plus there's a matter of Serie. Although, either way it's a bit of conjecture and not explicitly stated, so one can pointlessly argue, I just want people to realize my man Heiter is a beast

@@NekoJet91 No arguments with that! Our corrupt priest was pretty damn impressive. And any discussion about Serie or others... well, potential spoilers, so not going to elaborate there. My point was simply that as impressive as Heiter was, Freiren's ability to mask her actual strength (regardless of anyone's instincts telling them she's powerful) was equally impressive. Not trying to put down Heiter or anything! And you have a point too. What Freiren showed when she first started suppressing and what she shows now... it's never stated, but odds are she's showing even less now. Practice making perfect and all. It makes one wonder just what Fern's actual mana looks like at this stage, since despite her short life (compared to her two mentors) she's been suppressing herself nearly from the start.....

​ funny is people keep equating Heiters assumption(1/5) on Frierens's unrestricted mana. Seems they forgotten that Frieren has been training compressing her mana against her accumulation of mana over the years. Heiter is no way even 10% of Frieren's mana. He's a different league though as priest's magic is not fully understood.

@@bacsrm6897 Flamme told her to limit herself to 1/10 output and we don't have any reason to suspect that ratio changed. Aura considers her to have 100 years of training, which is in the ballpark of 1/10th her real training age. Other mages see her as a strong seasoned mage, which wouldn't necessarily be the case if she limited herself even further. All the way through the manga it's never explicitly stated that her current ratio of compressed to real is different so I don't think there's a need to overcomplicate things. Sure, there's also an argument that increase in mana capacity isn't necessarily linear too, but then we don't have any canon explanations about it at all and nothing to argue about other than "Bro did you see how huge it is". Plus we never saw any priest mana visually

I thought the "Kimetsu no Frieren" gag was... well, it was groan inducing, but I did chuckle. That said, the Granat's Domain Arc is probably my favorite arc of season 1. I love the story telling, the reveal of Frieren's backstory, Evan Call's magnificent score, and Madhouse going, pardon the pun, INSANE with the animation. It's the moment where everything comes together and just absolutely blows me away. Frieren is a genre defining show. And you only get a handful of them.

Something I forgot to mention in my last comment, the original Japanese title of this work itself is also “Sousou no Frieren(Frieren the undertaker)”. So when this work started, I thought it would be a story about Frieren growing up and parting with people over and over again. It also turned out that Heiter's magic level was out of whack at this point. Five times the magical power of Frieren in a restricted state of magical power means that his magical power is equivalent to that of a wizard who has lived for almost 500 years.

Stark's special move is "Lightning Strike". Yet another comparison to Zenitsu. 😅

So lets ignore that some people cant tell that the comparison of frieren the slayer that slays demons and demon slayer is about as subtle as a hammer to the face. Now lets pretend that he said Demon slayer is as good or even better than frieren. So what, let people have their tastes and preferences. Not everyone needs to like what "you" like. Thats the beauty of humanity and the soul reason we have veriaty in this world. I have been an anime fan for 30+ years. In the early days when anime came to the west we would have done anything for someone not familiar with this meduim to try it out. Try any of it out, just to welcome them into this amazing form of story telling. Can some of this community stop gate keeping and just let people love what they love. Its getting toxic as hell. Now that you know about a thousand years of Frieren's loneliness after the death of some close to her, I recommend you to watch it again starting from ep1. When you first watched this show, you were so absorbed in following the story that you didn't notice their little words and expressions, but now you can realize that they actually had an important meaning. So was I, and I did it. It may be the biggest charm of this show.

Say hello to Kouki Fujimoto, the main animator and episode director for Frieren Ep 9. This man got so tired of MAPPA's bullshit, that he started working on Frieren, mid-way through JJK S2 production. This man also created the look for cursed energy and was responsible for the realistic cloth and character movements in Frieren and also JJK and Chainsaw Man.

Frieren's comment about a "normal reaction" is subtle. When Stark says that he would be mad if he saw someone disrespecting the dead, Frieren thinks back to the battle where she got mad at Aura for the same reason (Aura disrepsected Himmel by saying his opinion didn't matter), and Frieren realizes that getting mad there was a "normal reaction". Essentially, she was recognizing her progress in understanding humans: she now has the same reaction to witnessing disrespect for the dead as Himmel did back when they fought Aura the last time and Frieren damaged the bodies with destructive spells. I loved that "normal reaction" bit so much, because as someone who often has the "wrong" reactions to a lot of situations, I find myself worrying about that exact question: am I reacting normally to this? Is it ok for me to react this way? Are people going to get mad at me for having this reaction? So Frieren's relief at having her reaction validated in that way is a very familiar feeling to me. I knew exactly what she meant as soon as she said it.

What I love, in a spiteful way, is how Lugner says that suppressing your mana, even during combat, is "unfair". Demons use human language, emotion, and sentimentality to deceive them, because demons consider those things to be human things and don't value them. But demons value mana. I haven't read the manga, but I wonder if Lugner ever understood that the way he felt about realizing Fern was suppressing her mana was the way that humans felt about what demons do to them.

Demons consider hiding your true strength and concealing mana before/during a fight to be unfair. From what I understand, this is to them like coming with a gun to a knife fight 😄
