    Eric's analysis was clear, deep and insightful, and I was incredibly impressed that he managed to articulate it so well so soon after getting emotionally walloped by this amazing episode. Everything about it worked perfectly to make the thematic and character-focused points it was driving towards, and not a single moment of it felt off, forced, or hollow. Hayden's performance was pitch-perfect as well, and it felt like he was leaving every single ounce of his effort on the field to make a very definitive statement about his ability to portray Anakin. Carson Teva also deserves an honorable mention as the lovable everyman hero; his moment where he just gives up and goes with the flow was such a great comedic moment, and a very welcome pause from the unrelenting emotional intensity that was the rest of this episode. It was also wonderful to see your emotions so plainly on display; it's clear how much this meant to you guys and I love that you were able to have this moment realized in live action. As Eric said, I also have no idea how the hell the next three episodes are going to top this, or what they even have up their sleeve at this point. But I also know that I can't wait to find out. Cheers!

    Hayden's variations of Anakin/Vader through the different incarnations he portrayed was just incredible. The humorous Anakin in the CW. Even the aggravated/questioning line he had to Ahsoka, "Is that what this is about?" had perfect delivery and reminded me of times when he and Obi would be in disagreement, and of course the way his body language and facial expressions changed as Vader. Hayden knocked this out of the park.

    I honestly feel that Ahsoka was scared that she inherited all of Anakin's legacy, including the death and destruction that Baylan spoke of. She knew that emotion was what led Anakin down that path, so was trying to repress her own. Anakin directly called her out on that with the line "Is that was this is about?". She had to get over that hump and realise that wasn't her destiny and let herself be herself.

    Agreed. Ahsoka has been controlled by the fear that she'll become like her master and that she'll fall to the Dark Side; or she'll lose a friend (Sabine) to the Dark Side. Some people think the lesson was between literal life and death, but it was how Ahsoka chooses to continue living: controlled by fear or letting go of that fear.

    Anakin’s lesson was that she’s not him. Although he trained her she’s not him. She holds back because she’s afraid of turning out just like he did and giving in to her intensity. She’s afraid of having attachment and for that to cause her to turn. That’s why she’s hesitant to stay with Sabine. That’s why she lost that fight. She was afraid to give in to her full power. Anakin is teaching her to embrace it because there’s nothing to fear. Just like Luke, the passion is there but he learns to control it and stay in the light. Also I think he’s teaching her that leadership requires trusting yourself, having conviction in your beliefs and understanding that sacrifices must be made for a greater good as hard as they might be.

  • @tfouto
    @tfouto9 ай бұрын

    It was reedemed Anakin all along. The lesson, Ahsoka needed from him, and is straightforward: Ahsoka always grappled with the idea of renouncing her fighter and warrior side: 'We were trained to be keepers of the peace, not soldiers.' This conflict grew even more intense as she matured, and saw all the suffering in front her eyes. It's as though Ahsoka desired the path of the Jedi but wished to distance herself from their warrior aspect, and all the dangers it brings. Anakin's teaching to Ahsoka was crystal clear: 'You lost a battle. Do you want to live or die?' He then attacked, forcing her to choose between defending herself or perishing. Despite this, she seemed to miss the message. This sentiment is echoed in her remarks during the Clone Wars, 'What are we doing here? And my lesson?' Her confusion persists. "I am here to teach you how to lead, to survive and for that you have to fight". 'If you don't fight, you die.' To her, this might seem cruel, and she correlates this with her conflicted image of Anakin/Vader, which frequently shifts between her eyes. Furthermore, in the Siege of Mandalore scene, when Anakin claims she is a part of his legacy and of those before him, Ahsoka remarks on his danger. Anakin responds with, 'You haven't understood. Let's go back to the start. I offered you a choice: do you want to live or die?' This theme becomes more pronounced as he intensifies his assault during his lesson about becoming a Sith, to the point where she has to fend off Vader, eventually gripping his wrist, declaring her will to live. By doing so, she recognizes and embraces the warrior within, understanding that this facet of her is crucial for her survival. This idea was explored in a 'Tales of the Jedi' episode. It's an intrinsic part of her, her legacy. A Jedi embodies both the roles of a soldier and a beacon of virtue. Ahsoka readily embraced the latter but struggled with the former, a contrast to Anakin. Anakin's lesson wasn't just a Jedi teaching; it was a stark statement about the often cruel nature of life itself. He wasn't being philosophical but brutally pragmatic: 'Do you want to live or die?' In that moment, Ahsoka was forced to confront not just her Jedi training but also the uncomfortable reality that life can be unforgiving. Her struggle with this lesson reflects her inner conflict, torn between her identity as a peacekeeper and the unavoidable necessity of embracing her warrior side for survival. It was only when Ahsoka acknowledged this duality that she found resolution and freedom. She had long wanted to forget the fighting, and all the inherent suffering that came with it: the death of the clones, Anakin's fall. For some reason, Ahsoka had come to associate her soldier side with evil and peril. But now, she began to accept this part of herself, recognizing it as a key aspect of her legacy. I also think that Anakin didn't really turn to his Sith version, it was a set up, not that Anakin genuinely wanted to kill her in the world between worlds or that he was incapable. If he had truly intended to, she wouldn't have stood a chance. Instead, it was a lesson, and Anakin had to set the stage for her. It was always the reedemed Anakin all along. Just needed to embodied the Vader version to finish the lesson. It was not as Anakin is a bipolar in afterlife. Anakin's message to her was to embrace her soldier side and find peace with it, emphasizing that his fall to the dark side wasn't due to this aspect or her actions "I am much more than that, as you are". He urges her to live on.

    Of course it not like he is bipolar but still while I agree it was a stage it was easy for him to play that part cause he will always carry Vader within him, he overcame it when he got redeemed but you cannot erase a Jedi nor a Sith. So yeah Redeemed Anakin was in control the whole scene but he did let Vader out just enought for her to overcome that past and the fact that Her Master became a Sith, she needed to make peace with this as well and that she fear that she got that side of her Master as well. And she kinda do when she briefly show her golden eyes to him. She needed to grow beyond all that, the fall of her Master, her own past, the fall of the Jedi Order. But yeah ultimatly it like you and Eric said, the choice and will to live, accepting that in order to do so you have to fight. Just found this, it kinda fit my point of view about this. www.cbr.com/ahsoka-darth-vader-alive/

    Really solid explanation to a BRILLIANT show. The thing about great storytelling is you responded perfectly without fully understanding consciously because of how powerful the message actually was. You got it. You just had to process it and accept it. Filoni nailed it. Darth Vaders greatest tragedy was dying an unknown hero. To sacrifice yourself for your son and the galaxy knowing you will be labeled the ultimate villain, even by Ahsoka and others. Ahsoka never got to see that he did ultimately redeem himself until now, no matter how long it took. Redemption isn’t on a schedule. It’s a different journey for it’s all.

    i think the lesson is that Ahsoka needed to accept that violence and death are something she cannot avoid, she needs to fight to survive, but she needs to _live_ - to embrace life and and find the positive despite the fighting she has to do. But I also think you have a good point too. She needed to choose to live because quite frankly, if she gave up, out there in the material world, she was on the verge of drowning. Choosing to live means she was able to surface to consciousness, so she could surface in the water.

    On the idea that these shows are the effect of Anakin on other people, even "The Mandalorian" is that. To fonus on the main characters, Anakin's effect on Grogu's life is what put Grogu on the path that resulted in a bounty being issued to bring him in. Thus the effect on Grogu's life affected Din's life. In other tangential effects, the large scale effects of the Clone wars on Din (orphaned) and Mandalore, since Ahsoka fought on mandalore, met Bo-Katan there, and then Bo-Katan uno-reversed that and sent Din in Ahsoka's direction. Ahsoka's trauma (what she was challenged to get past in this episode) is why she refused to train Grogu. Ten there is the effect of Anakin on Luke, which has it's effect on Grogu to some degree, but maybe in that, Luke has come to terms with his own issues with his father, so Grogu got the position after-effects from that angle. Maybe Luke understood that strong emotional attachment could be an issue and that is why he gave Grogu the choice. So, Anakin has had wide-ranging effects, and the shows have the ripples of that.

In that time, and in getting him to sign a couple things, I asked him about his reaction to his own comeback, and how awesome it was for him. He talked about how humbled he was by the fans and getting to return and just being appreciative of all of it, just like he does on every interview now. I showed him you guys and Kyle Katarn, and Laney Byers. (As my favorite reactors on KZread) to show him your reactions to him returning. He smiled and said “I’ve seen them before.” (Very Anakin of him!) Anyways, he knows you guys. He told me he watched all the KZread reactions for perspective on his own acting for *ahem* upcoming potential returns as Anakin *cough cough, Ahsoka cough cough* and now we see why with you guys being completely speechless. I´ve seen a lot of reactions to Ep. 5, and many easter eggs and explanations in English, Spanish, and French since Tuesday, but you (both) have been the most revealing of the true meaning of this awesome episode. And you are right, this is Star Wars in the most pure form. I subscribed to your channel immediately

    I loved this SO MUCH. I don’t even know how to start. The clone wars flashbacks were so amazing. Ahsoka dealing with her trauma and her having to be a child soldier 😢. Anakin looked so good. Jacen using the force. Hera was able to hear the lightsabers too so to me that shows that she’s attuned to the force in some way too, not jedi strength, just a level of connection, which is probably why she’s such a good pilot. The Purrgil. Ahsoka back to being her old self 😭. Now on her way to find Sabine and Ezra. I can’t wait until we find Ezra. I can’t believe we still have 3 more episodes left. Lol I could talk about this episode for ages 😂.

    For me, it seemed as though Ashoka finally got the closure she needed and was internally searching for. The "wound" is finally closed. "It's better than going nowhere"...Your analysis of that statement was amazing. Out of all the reactions I have watched, you are the ONLY one that gave that analysis. It made so much sense and was so spot on! I learned something new...that deserves a Subscribe and a big Thank You! May The Force Be With You!

    Yeah, Ahsoka's been so scared of becoming Annakin that she became hardened and this is why she didn't want to train Sabine, why she didn't want to train Grogu either, because she was worried she'd become what she feared and pass that on to any Padawan. She almost gave in to her fear (you saw her eyes turn orange when she had Annakin's red saber up to his throat), but passed her final test and let go of her fear. Beautiful.

    Anakin did the same thing for Obi-Wan in the Kenobi show. When he say Anakin'a face Obi-Wan broke down and apologized for failing him. Anakin came through and told Obi-Wan that "I am not your failure, Obi-Wan". Obi-Wan could finally move on and became the wise and positive old sage as Old Ben.

    Because he was redeemed by Luke before dying I believe Anakin ended up accepting his role as the father(mortice gods)which would explain why he seems to have complete control of the world between worlds. It’s a full potential anakin who has mastered both the the light and dark but more so has perspective that come with it. He knew he had to force ahsoka to deal with her trauma and move past the guilt by showing her that he was “more then that” and that applies to her by extension. Hayden knocked it out of the park, he owned every scene.

    you are very sweet, it was a very nice point that you described. It's a theme that exists throughout the entire franchise, and even in all Star Wars games. Usually at this stage the Jedi falls to the dark side. Because of a war that never ends, he/she has seen too many deaths. He/She questions himself about his decisions and his side. Ahsoka didn't fall on the dark side. But she had turned into a shadow. A shadow warrior. A great episode and script.

    What I don't really like and get is the fuss made by the New Republic about Hera's decision to assist Ahsoka - and to investigate the plot she herself helped uncover,. There's enough reason for that even without the threat of Thrawn returning. The whole thing has something of a Harry Potter vibe, where the Minister of Magic denies the return of Voldemort... They're going to basically throw her out because of that? Really? That makes them look really stupid and petty for just a bit of additional tension imho. Something about Ahsokas encounter with Anakin reminded me of that scene on Dagobah (Ep. V) where Yoda sent Luke into the cave and he duelled Vader in a vision, only to find his own face underneath the mask after striking down the feared opponent. Now, I don't think that this here is taking place purely in Ahsoka's mind. But it is about her regrets, doubts, fears. (In a way, it seems to be her who determines the locations as well). Luke doesn't know who Vader is, but still fears to become like him - or gets shown that it could happen, if he chose the wrong path? Ahsoka, on the other hand, knows what became of Anakin, and maybe not only regrets her wrong decisions and the constant need to fight, but also fears that everything was tainted and twisted by the darkness in her master from the beginning, therefore seeing Vader even in the Clone Wars scenario. Maybe she even fears that this would be her path, too, should she follow his teachings, his footsteps, so to speak. Anakiin assuring her that this is not all she and he are on the one hand, but also stressing that the times made it necessary for her to become a fighter and for him to train her that way then would not only let her move past her feelings about the past, but might lead to her integrating the necessary "darkness" in fighting, in surviving, in not lacking conviction. Just some additional thoughts, I agree with what is said in the video.

    13:41 in short the lesson was “fight to live”, Ahsoka was trained and raised to live as a warrior, a soldier and a leader like Anakin said, which meant her way of living was a constant fight in order to continue living because they were at war. Now it’s long past that time and Ahsoka is no longer fighting a war, she’s become reluctant to fight and has forgotten that in order to live, she has to fight, and fight to kill because it’s either their life or hers, and in this case Babylon essentially killed her because she’d forgotten that to survive she had to fight

    Your enthusiastic commentary clearly shows that you *get it*! Ahsoka needed to get pulled out of herself to make peace with herself. The only one to help her would be Anakin freaking Skywalker, and until this episode, he was gone from her. As in DEAD, people. Dead in more ways than one. Ahsoki's got her mojo back!

  • @moppichu
    @moppichu9 ай бұрын

    Eric pretty much amazingly put into words the realizations about Ahsoka's "legacy". How this will affect Ahsoka's mentoring of Sabine we will see (I'm still hoping Ahsoka ends up training Jacen in some way if Hera finally relents)... and I got to agree with him that this could've been the Season Finale of the show. I don't even know if they will be able to like put a stop to G.A. Thrawn (and the highly possible people he has assembled on the other side of the galaxy), Morgan, Baylan and Shin in just those remaining three episodes... I have not kept up that well with the new announcements to the new Star Wars things in the future... but I wouldn't really mind a season 2 of Ahsoka if this will prevent a cop out ending....

    The biggest part of the lesson, for me personally, was the part of their conversation that Anakin was trying to get Ahsoka to understand that Anakin is more than Vader and Ahsoka is more than a soldier. His insulted question of "is that what this is about?" wasn't like a flippant sassy response, it was genuine disappointment that Ahsoka can't see Anakin and his Master's Legacy in him, and by proxy, in herself. Ahsoka is the culmination of yoda quigon obiwan anakins etc training and knowledge and legacy, and Anakin is also that for his previous masters. To put herself and Anakin in a tiny square box of soldier/vader is doing a massive disservice to both of them

    Ok hear me out on this. Anakin Is a Mortis God now. That is why he never shows up as a force ghost, or rarely. In the Clone wars he was told by the BALANCE that THAT more than anything was his destiny. To be the Balance You have to understand both Sides Equally. So He lived 20 something years in the Light, then he had to fall and live 20 something years in the Dark side. Becoming the most powerful onand in both. Now that he has no attachments because his living life is over. He is now free with the understanding of both, to take his place as the balance. Ashoka like alot of us, the events of your young lives can hold us back, and we get caught up in repeating the same mistakes that our Mothers and Fathers did before us. When Anakin First showed her her young life, he was showing her that what happened did happen, but She is more than that, just like he is. Then when He confronted her as the dark side (Something he is able to do as the balance. Because he is both Light and dark in one) He forced her to confront the dark side with in herself and then made her choose to live, made her choose not to repeat his path and fall to the dark. Becoming Ashoka the white. For those of you who watched the clone wars. The Mortis Gods were the Father, the Daughter and the Son. If Anakin is the Balance Both Light and Dark in one. Ashoka is the Light who is the Dark? Not Luke, Not Lea. So who?

    When Anakin said "you're more than that, because I'm more than that." I teared up, haven't done that for new Star Wars since Mando S2 Finale. Definitely, this is Anakin post-ROTJ. You can tell because when she says she won't fight him, he says "I've heard that before," referencing Luke in ROTJ. If he was a figment in Ahsoka's imagination, she wouldn't know that.

    @@prestonkeane703 Wrong! In Rebels, Ahsoka said "I won't leave you, not this time!" She NEVER says she won't fight him. In fact, she goes straight to fighting him, saying "I will avenge his death!" So, when Ahsoka says "I won't fight you," Anakin replies, "I've heard that before," referencing the fight between Luke and Vader, not Ahsoka and Vader, because Ahsoka never says she won't fight him in Rebels.

    I think Anakin helped Ahsoka face her demons. I think at the end of the fight right before she wins the duel , Ahsoka’ eyes turned yellow and Anakins were sith color too and it was evil staring at evil but Ahsoka’s desire to live overcame it and Anakin realized I’m that moment that she had defeated not him but her own darkness which is why she is now Ahsoka the white .
