Hey i want ask something. I have a canon 100D if i record a video 1080p with SD Card Sandisk Ultra 48MB/s (SD HC 10) after 5 second my video stopped automaticly i dont know why this things happend, but when i used the V-Gen (SD HC 4) it keep recording and it was weird because my V-Gen is much slower, it was 10-20MB/s can you explain this? I have no idea cause v-Gen is more cheaper than my Sandisk and my sandisk cant even hold 1080p?!!!

I still struggle with mine! Your videos look amazing. The quality looks really good. What are you using for editing?
Sean, you have taught me everything I know about making videos - and I still have a lot to learn!! Thank you so much for your awesome content. I'll be watching this video every morning for the next week!!
Dude, thank you. For years the setting of shutter speed, aperture and ISO was a mystery to me. But you video makes it so clear, and you give an order for how to deal with them: framerate, shutter speed, aperture ISO. I get it. A huge light just came on. And the variation use the faster lens really helps. Great teaching. Thanks!
This was so helpful! I'm a blogger and KZreadr who is finally trying to get out of shooting on Auto. You made it so simple that I feel more confident for my next video. Thank you!!!
Thanks Sean, just picked up a new 80D and was pulling my hair out trying to get the great settings to shoot my DIY channel. Thanks so much and keep putting them out. Tremendous help!!!!!
I recently bought a Canon 80D for my interior remodeling channel and I've watched a lot of videos on manual settings and trying to understand how each function works. This is by far the most practical and informative video I've watched about IOS and Aperture. I have never used a camera so this lingo is completely foreign to me. So when you applied each setting to a real-life situation (step by step) everything clicked in my head. And I finally understand these settings. Thanks for taking the time to do this. I look forward to using your style of videography in my videos. It's very much the style I'm looking for opposing to other photographers setups i've seen. I've also noticed the halo light adds a nice glowing ring inside your eyes. Very effective for sexy appeal jk lol Thanks, man!
This was so helpful!! I’m just getting started so I’m super excited! Shot my first video last night with my lighting and my new Canon Rebel T6i! Looked amazing but I can’t wait to shoot with these settings! Thanks so much for your great videos!
this is one of THE most helpful dslr settings video I've ever seen, and I've now made a playlist specifically for this purpose :D thanks so much Sean, your a star!
Thanks so much Sean for this. I literally did this today, I purchased the grey card a few weeks ago and now my video I'm making actually looks like something. I made a few videos that looked awful and that deterred me from creating because they didn't look like other channels. I really appreciate what your doing to help newbies.
Thank you for making these videos. A lot of other videos only show you bits and pieces while you're actually getting behind the camera and showing us each setting, each step. Thanks man.
Just got a 80D for my setup, loving the help here Sean! One thing that I've been experiencing is the pain it is to switch between video and camera mode. Any tips on that?
Careful with that aperture though! You don't want it to get so shallow that a slight shift in your position in front of the camera causes you to get out of focus. With a nifty 50 lens, I wouldn't go up to F1/8. I'd go about F/4. FroKnowsPhoto has a great video DSLR guide. I highly recommend it. Helped me out a lot!
This is an example of the perfect KZread tutorial. Concise, informative and of course well shot! Thanks, I learned a lot that I can use right away!
OMG Thank you for this vid! Recently purchased a entry level Canon DSLR and was having issues with settings. Very helpful for the beginner youtuber/non photography savvy person.
Awesome tips! Thank you for sharing this behind the camera look much appreciation!
OH MY GOD! dude literally this brought my quality from 100 to 100000 real quick thank youuu
This is one of the best videos I have watched for setting up a camera to shoot! Easy to understand and follow and actually showing how it looks on the camera AND subject at the same time was super helpful!
Thank you for sharing this, Sean! Your instructions are very clear and easy to follow. I don't have the same camera as yours, but it's a DSLR and I was able to figure out how to access the same settings to achieve better quality video.
Thank you! I can get all my settings right when taking pictures, but I was having a hard time with videos. This video helped me out a ton! I need a ring light...
This was really great. The best I've seen so far. However, I was trying to see if he was in manual mode and if he had the autofocus activated or not.👍
Wow this video was SO HELPFUL! I think I'm finally understanding depth of field. I think what I struggle with is shooting indoors when there is not much light or if there is a window behind someone.
Thanks Sean! This was really helpful! I was able to follow along and change the settings of my own camera. You not only shared what to do, but why we should do it! Thank you! I'm looking forward to improving my videos with this info!
I've seen plenty of videos just like this before and I actually enjoyed this one the most even if i already seen the other ones. Still some very good information that the other creators does not explain this good. Keep up the good work!
finally!!! someone that explained it so good that I actually understood how to set up my Canon. Thank you Sean!
I've been trying to record videos for about a year or so now and have had so much trouble understanding all of this. This video makes perfect sense to me though. Thank you thank you for this easy and clear tutorial for beginners!!

Ok So i've been working on teaching myself how to do interviews for a new channel and for a corporate gig after a couple years of making youtube vids...I never really took the time to nail down the basics and got frustrated after a few experimental practice interviews with how they got pretty grainy despite all the lighting I had....you helped me realize why it wasn't working through the setup explaination you gave in this video...thank you so much for putting this video out there! I am so greatful!
Love this video Sean! Great job!

Thank you! super helpful and specific. I really appreciate it. I will try to change up some of my settings based off this video when I film this weekened. I have been to scared to change from auto mode

Hey Sean, great video! I was wondering why my videos have been coming out super gritty lately and because of your video I realize that it's because I've been ignoring the shutter speed and aperture out of ignorance of how they work. Thanks so much for breaking everything down!
Thanks for this great tutorial! I'm a newbie, and this just solved a couple problems I was running into. Grateful for you, Sean. Peace.
This is exactly what I needed to see! Thanks, Sean!
I would love to see a video about how to make the most of your DSLR if all you have is the kit lens.
Sooooo helpful thank you! Had just got my new SL2 out of the box and shot a test video and shocked at the quality! Watching your video has got the setting right ... hurray!
OMG!! thank you so much!!!! I was having so many problems with settings and this video definitely explained it the best for me and now my shots look 110% better
This was an awesome video! I was motivated by your videos to take my old Canon Rebel XT (yeah its old) out of retirement but also to go with a dslr for my videos instead of a camcorder. I was looking at a Sony 4K Camcorder but went with the T7i since I know how reliable Canons are and your videos still look great at 1080p. Soon ill be looking at lighting and lenses.....
I FINALLY solved my problem! thank you ! I was about ready to quit! I still can't seem to work out whats the best settings to export on premier pro if anybody can help with that?
Thank you for the tips. I tried how you showed and tweaked some settings a bit, the quality was excellent. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this video! I am just starting my channel and I have the same camera but I couldn't figure out how to get the settings right. This was very helpful!
Thanks Bro its Helpful🙂
Focus would be my biggest concern, specially when shooting slow motions and smooth b rolls, the camera keeps tying to focus and out of focus .... is there a smooth way to do that focus transition and what should be the settings for that
Extremely clear and instructional and concise in understanding your best practice order of settings and why. Bravo
The best explanation I have heard till now. Short and very easy to understand. Thanks Sean!
when i vlog should i keep it in manual or automatic, i find it easier in automatic, and im wondering if i will lose quality in automatic?

Yeah I watch it then get pumped then can't find a button or setting. Sit down and watch it again with what I've learned then get pumped. Then realize I still don't have something set right. Rinse and repeat. Lol
Great explanation! DSLR cameras can be complicated to someone that isn't familiar with photography/video, when they first buy one. I am a realtor and bought a Nikon D5100 thinking it would automatically make my photos look better, paid about $800 maybe 5 years ago and hated it because I had no idea how to use it. Understanding the settings is super important and makes all the difference. I'm going to start doing videos/vlogs in my office at night and this will help so much! Thanks!!!
Hey Sean, Thank you for creating this video. It confirmed that I’m doing some things right but my challenge is in locking down my shot after everything is set up. I spend hours getting everything set up ( including having my 82 yr old mom sit in as my double) and when I turn off the camera, everything goes back to fuzz! I know that people who crank out videos regularly don’t spend hours setting up their shot every time. It’s such a terrible use of time and so frustrating! I use a Canon T6i, 50 mm lens, and have lots of good lighting. I’d appreciate any feedback you might have for me and again, AWESOME video!👍🏼❤️👍🏼❤️😀😀😀
When my exposure is to high, I use my variable ND filter so I can my shutter speed at 60 and f/stop as low as possible.
I don't ever mess with white balance. So great tip on that. Thanks for the video!

Learnt lately that auto white balance works best in most cases. I have the dirty habit of holding a white paper before every shot to tune in 'push' white balance.
Hey, this video really helped me! My videos looked like crap even though I was using a fancy camera. This straightened it out quick. Thanks for really getting down to the nuts and bolts in a way I couldn't find other videos or blogs to do! THANK YOU! :)
Thank You SOOOO much. I recently posted a bunch of vids on my other channel and the quality was all over the place. I now see what I messed up. So grateful to you for this video. Thanks so much!
Hey there...I'm 100% not bashing you just letting you know that after doing some extensive research I found out that the grey side is actually for setting exposure and it has become a common myth over the years that it it also perfect for white balance, however the white side of you're card is actually what should be used to set white balance. The colours will be be more accurate that way, I tested it myself...you get more of a yellowish hue in your pics/vids when you use the grey side. Feel free to check it out and have a great day :)

That's 100% not true.
@ComicBookSyndicate
5 жыл бұрын
That is 100% true. Always use a *white* balance card, but make sure it's not overexposed.
I just bought a variable ND filter for this precise reason. That way I can keep my shutter speed at double the FPS, keep the aperture wide open and the ISO the lowest all while letting the filter cut some light to get the perfect exposure. Ive also found the variable ND filter indispensable for shooting video outdoors and being able to keep my shutter speed at double the FPS while still getting a perfect exposure. Otherwise this is a very well explained video.
@garrettmediaservices2214
6 жыл бұрын
I 2nd the ND filter. It's a better option than changing the speed, no good camera kit should be without one.
Very helpful. The only thing I'm not sure about, is that I'm not usually going to be shooting in a studio setting. I'm going to be in various indoor locations with various types of lighting. So, I will play with these settings, based on what you taught me, and see how they apply.
So much better of a tutorial on the 70D than any I've seen yet... Of course! Thanks
When it comes to shutter speed I think there might be a confusion for some people because if doesn't usually display 60 but 1/60, 50 as 1/50 and so on.
What's my biggest challenge? Just talking to the darn camera!!
Just stumbled upon this video for a quick settings fix, super helpful and I'm glad I found the channel!
Great way to explain it to someone who is new to all this. so helpful. my videos wreck wayyyy over exposed and understanding how to set the white balance will make a huge difference. My skin looked all wrong. Thank you.
