Given the pricing, to me that whole thing is not complicated at all... Meike HANDS DOWN! BTW I bought it thanks to you.
Great tests. I have the Meike VND. It's been working well for me with my R5C. Good work Josh.

Excellent comparisons! Thank you ‼️
You had me at Vector scope. This is the proof. Thank you!
Thank you for the the comparison. There was a lot of really good information. I bought the canon because a lot of my needs are in this lower ND range and this will allow for more ease of use. I do like that I now have an option with the breakthrough filter to get darker ND if I was to use my favorite lens the sigma 18-35mm on a sunny day.

Great video as always. I have the Canon adapter with ND but I never noticed it gets as blue as your test, so I will check it again just out of curiosity. Meike offers additional filters like diffusion some it would be nice if you grab one for testing.
I've had the Canon adapter since the EOS R, but picked up the Meike about a year ago because of the blue shift and am pretty happy with it. I had been wondering about the quality of the Breakthrough filter and appreciate the comparison!

I like to think of the blue shift as a Day For Night filter. haha
Great info, thanks for making the video. I just got an EOS R a few months ago and use the passthrough adapter right now but want to add a drop-in filter to give me CPL and ND on my EF lenses without needing front threads (TS-E 17mm, Sigma 14-24, etc...) Probably will get the Canon native with CPL and then add the Breakthrough filters later.
Ping loves this breakthrough!!!
Nice technical tests 🎉. The bought and did a video on this last year and have found this to be a great drop in filter system. Better than the canon.
This is awesome thank you

Great video Josh! Under the circumstances, it looks like I can deal with the minor color shift of the Meike. I just need to remember to get a color checker in the shot appropriately.

@@Josh_Sattin For sure!
very good presentation!
What about cpl comparison in vector ? Could you advise on that ? Is canon cpl good enough ?
16:33 im def having issues ..my meike adapter is not working with my R50 with a EFs-24mm f/2.8 attached! It’s not reading AT ALL!!
What’s a good adapter for my R50? And I only have RF lenses that came with it.
Personally, since getting my R5 in Jan of 2021 i had been looking for alternatives to canon's overpriced adapted filter system. Breakthrough was the only option at the time but I remember they were still rather expensive and ALWAYS on back order or pre order and had no estimate of when they'd actually start shipping. Fast forward to mid 2023 I start looking again and find the Meike which was an excellent price and still is. Even at that time, breakthrough were still not shipping anything so i just assumed they were out of action and ended up going for the Meike. Happy to say that it's easily one of the best things I've bought for my setup. Came with clear filter and 1.5 to 9 stop VND and it's just been so excellent. No colour shift in the slightest. The gear may be a little too loose if I'm really nit-picking but I you're not actually touching it, it's not gonna slip out of place or change the exposure, it's just if you happen to accidentally brush it, it will move slightly but at the price point, it's already offering so much I cannot complain. Had breakthrough got their shit together sooner I could've ended up with their system which actually would've ended up worse for me
What a Breakthrough in reviews for Canon RF VND drop in filters!!!!

Did you test all the filters for sharpness on the corners of a wide-angle lens with an open aperture?
Oh c'mon! Breakthrough just express this recommendation because the Canon told them so, so that people want to buy Canon's adapters despite Canon's filters are so expensive. But if it fits Meike, it works with Meike. Also. Does WB adjustment fix color cast of Canon filter above some level of ND filtration?
Thanks. Is there a drop in solution for EF to Sony E mount you could recommand?
@Josh_Sattin

Meike makes ones, but I don't think the autofocus works very well. I haven't used it enough to give you an opinion though.
Thats why i waited until now to switch from canon to sony, it's like I had internal NDs with the R6... I just switched to the FX3 (thanks Josh for your set up video for it) Now I just wish sony made shorter lenses so we could use them with an adapter that has VND ....
Ive been searching for a drop in filter for the old 5D MKIII.

Unfortunately these only work with RF mount cameras and EF lenses because of flange distance difference between the two mounts.
Neophyte question. I'm a bit confused with what does and doesn't work with the RF cameras, I have an R7. With this work with the stock RF-S18-150 lens? How about with the RF14-35 F4 L is USM? If not, what do you recommend for a vaiable ND filter for those?
@Josh_Sattin

No, this only works with EF lenses, not RF or RF-S lenses. This is the ND filter that I use: geni.us/hvFBj

@@Josh_Sattin Ah, right, thank you so much. So for those I just need the standard "screw on the end" type of ND filter. That one's a bit pricey, but I'm sure it's good! haha. I bought that new RF14-35 that will probably be my primary lens with this camera and since it's almost as much as the camera it's probably worth getting that expensive ND filter.

How about cpl filter?
Can i buy Meike ND without adapter and put into Canon adapter or not? What is better choice in your opinion? Breakthrough or Meike ND?
Hi Amigo. Very interesting ans helpful review. Thank you. 👍🏻☀️🌋☕🏝📸
Odd that my Meike drop in filters came in little cheap plastic cases. I had to pay almost one hundred dollars for the actual Meike drop in filter case on Amazon.
What about the locking adapter from Meike?

@@Josh_Sattin That seems accurate, i just saws them myself after testing the non-locking version about a year ago. Such a cool way to utilize the adapter space and improve ease of use, and at a great price point.
They should do fixed 3 5 10 stops for best colour accuracy
But what if you don’t want to adapt Ef lenses is there a VND. Rf to Rf
@Josh_Sattin

There is no RF-RF VND adapter. The reason this is possible with EF-RF is because EF lenses were designed for DSLRs that had a mirror box (and thus a larger flange distance) so there is room in there for the filters.

Meike makes this for adapting EF lenses to E. I have not tried this whatsoever so I have no idea if it works well or not. amzn.to/3rVFTcV
Canon NDF with its cold colors makes the picture looking like it is a night scene.
sucks to be an RF lens shooter not EF!
Meike ALL DAY EVERYDAY.. Canon out they rabbit ass mind overcharging for this adapter/filter
damn did he leave an ND on the camera
