Rachel-had a look on YT & I couldn't really find any info. Basically my sister's family of 3 teens 13,16&18 all are very keen to take on the training of their new pup coming in a month or so. So my question is this-Obviously consistency is crucial but have you any particularly useful tips for a dog who is most definitely going to be a family dog, shared by 5 people so that the dog doesn't get attached to 1 more than the other-or is that impossible? They've had several pets before but are doggy beginners although they've been watching lots of videos & I recommended your channel as their first stop! Thank you for your great channel 😊

Hi Rachel, Thanks so much for the video! We also just moved to an apartment building and I find it difficult/unsafe to get up in the middle of the night for potty if my puppy is sick with diarrhea. I tried the grass on the balcony and the pee pads as well but he doesn't want to use them... He just holds it in and I can see he is in so much pain. Then I take him out at 3am... Do you have any suggestions for training him to use the grass pads or pee pads. Thank you so much!

Hi! I just got a new puppy one week ago and have trained him (almost) to use a fresh grass patch outside on our tiny balcony! At first, I followed the tips in one of Rachel’s earlier videos and picked up the puppy and put him onto the grass patch as soon as he finished a meal, woke up, finish playing or his nose hit the floor to sniff, etc. At first he just understood that the balcony was where he could go to the toilet, (which was better for cleanup than the carpet but we wanted him to use the grass), but now he always goes to the door when he needs to go, and when I open the door he jumps straight onto the grass to go. Still have some accidents in the house because he is just a baby and can’t control himself, but the dedication of watching him all the time and everytime he looked like he was looking for a place to go to the toilet or getting uncomfortable all of a sudden, just picking him up and going straight to the grass, waiting out there with him until he does it, and lots and lots of praise when he gets it right! I think the key is taking him there when you know he will definitely need to go (like after a big drink of water or first thing in the morning, putting him on the grass and just waiting until he uses it (like if he gets off to sniff around like redirecting after hes sniffed a little and getting him back on the grass, then reward when he does it. Hope that helps a bit! Good luck!

Love that you mentioned about noise training. I do lots of word recognition with my puppy. We live by trains and planes. When one passes I say "train" (plane, car, motorcycle etc) now at 17 weeks when we hear a train I chabge to a sentence Isay "did you hear that train"...she knows and is never startled. By the way this is a Dane so I giggled when u mentions them pulling u over by leash.

I personally like not having an option for going potty other than actually going outside.
