    Often, the personality is what we go after in a dog. The hair factor isnt really considered, BUT should be if you dont like to spend time with grooming. I had a husky collievmix. Great personality. That was the reason i took him. The grooming was a big chore. I loved the dog immensely but told myself that next time, grooming needs will be on the list when evaluting for my next pet.

    My first dog spoiled me😂 I thought all dogs are like him. He was smart, friendly and just the best dog human can have. I didn't trained him. I was 8 when I got him as a birthday gift. He was walking without leash his whole life, he was really well behaved for the (almost) 21 years of his life. Then I adopted another mix and I found out that I was lucky with.... Lucky(1st dog)😅

I recently trained my English Mastiff to STOP doing PAW for treats, and he’s on his way to not offering his “Mike Tyson PAW” as I call it any more. I’ll let y’all know how it works but also his nipping is curbed too. It’s basically training yourself! So it’s been difficult to say the least as I am crazy AF. Lol. Awesome channel and definitely workable tips that anyone can do with patience and practice. Common sense be damned I’m still learning life at 50 years old! Lol

    Always had labs, love my fox red Spud most affectionate well behaved boy. Feel like for smaller hours cavoodles and similar breeds work well. Never understood why people get humongous highly energetic dogs when no one’s home on a regular basis to give them the attention they both crave and deserve, pretty cruel imo and people wonder why they have a dog that doesn’t listen or exhibits antisocial behaviour, it’s honestly not rocket science.

    Very interesting choice there! Not a behaviorist at all, but xolos are very smart, fast-learning dogs. They have a little bit of guarding skills naturally, but nothing in the extreme. Hardest part about these dogs is the fysical care, they can't be in the sun too long with the exposed skin. Good luck on your search!

    First time owner here. My first dog is a german shepherd. Most people dont recommend this dog as a first time owner and i get why, we have done a pretty good job i would say but its been hard. Its not easy and is constant work and if someone isnt willing to do that then they shouldnt. Hes expensive too. We also got him from breeder whos been breeding german shepherds for home but also to work. So they have good temperament and there parents havent had amy behaviour issues including grandparents to the dog. He also is straight backed which is taken well care off shouldnt have problems with his hips.

    My "first" dog, the first one I obtained on my own, as an 18 year old, was a Keeshond. He was AMAZING. Super easy to train, smart, loyal, and GREAT with children. He was 4 years old when I had my son, and you would have thought he gave birth to my baby. He camped out under his crib during nap and bed times, rushed to get me the moment baby started to stir or make noises, and guarded him well. (Bear would never growl to keep.people away, he just intercepted them. Want to kiss the baby's head? Oops! You get to kiss the dog's head instead. That type of stuff) When baby started to stand and walk, Bear offered his furry sides as sacrifices for stability . He wouldn't growl or get angry when baby held.on to fistfulls of fur, desperately trying not to fall back on his diapered but. Instead, Bear would walk slowly and help teach the baby to walk. He was a very good boy, and I recommend Keeshonds for those looking for easy, small-mid sized.dogs.

    Hey there Will and other experienced owners here in this comment section i have a lil question what dogs as first time owner should i pick if i wanted a GUARD dog or basically a quite a strong one because you see there are some really agressive stray dogs in my area and i walk a labrador daily (which is of my neighbour's i don't own it) and i have to make a run for it withh the 3 month old lab in my arms or throw stones near the strays 5o scare them away but i was thinking if i had a guard dog which was just intimidating enough to scare then would it be a good choice? Like a german shepherd or other breeds?

She looks like the shape of a German shepard but the color and fur of a blue heeler. She's alot of work but very motivated to please. I give her plenty of chews and walk her like an hour a day. She's about 57 lbs and 1 year and 8 months, I think I'm almost out of the worst of it! But I wouldn't trade her for the world

    People just need to pick a dog according to what they can give. I'm sure GR fits a lot of people, but they still need a lot of maintenance, exercice and companionship (imo). And all owners should be ready to seek profesionnal help if they can't make it work with their dog (instead of hastily getting rid of it in shelters)

  • @DuckyLav7472
    @DuckyLav74728 ай бұрын

    'Handler engaged' is often misinterpreted by a dog that wants to work. First time owners should NOT get a working dog. The most important part is finding a dog that is eager to please and food driven, as those two together make for such easy training. Something not mentioned here is size, i think first time owners should aim for a medium sized dog, as small dogs are easier to mis-handle and hurt, and larger dogs are hard to control without training. You also want to make sure not to get a breed that is prone to unique health issues, or very likely to have health issues, such as a German shepherd or a ridge-back, as its just one more thing to keep on-top of.

    Boston Terriers are food motivated and very friendly but they will also let you know everything you're doing wrong or everything they also wanna do. I.E. it's very easy to read them, they show their emotions on their sleeves. For this reason though I don't think their stubbornness quite makes this list. I have reported on here a bunch of times that what works for most breeds as far as discipline goes may take some... troubleshooting with a boston. Also their separation anxiety can be extreme and if you're the type to punish a dog for ripping stuff a boston is NOT for you.

    I don't agree. I'm a first-time owner, and I have an American Akita she ist 8 months now. And WE have a few Problems, that I Made by mistake. If you're interested in a breed, go for it. But make sure you can take on and maintain the responsibility to correct any mistakes you make. Don't betray your pet and give it away just because you're overwhelmed by your limited knowledge. Always keep yourself updated and seek answers whenever you have questions or observations about their behavior. P.S.: Make sure you get to know the breed you're interested in before you buy one. And not just by reading. Find people who have the breed you like and regularly walk with them. Don't just rely on one owner's perspective; find several. It's even better if you can find dogs from animal shelters. They are often the most challenging examples of the desired breed. Sorry, my Englisch ist mit the best. Im a German.
