In my opinion, they're not generally acknowledged or placed at the top like they SHOULD be for a couple of reasons: musical snobbery (people who discount them because they wrote some great disco stuff in the 1970s); jealousy (they were so much better than most of the other bands on all levels--writing, performing, harmonizing, longevity, and the ability to play any style); and lastly pure talent (didn't need the "shock" lyrics to sell songs, didn't use enhancement tricks when that tech became available, and were truly nice guys which--at the time--was considered "square" or "uncool"). Us Bee Gee fans hung with them through every style, and recognized their phenomenal talent right from the start. No other band sounds like them or produced as much great stuff as they did. They are a once-in-a-lifetime talent.

I have to say as a current 68 year old baby Boomer that when we grew up we had it great. We had the best of times we were poor but my God, we were rich and friends and music and culture. We just had so much and we didn't realize it. Then, but boy, we realize it now. We can't help but go back to that time by listening to this. Great music that we grew up with. And you're starting to get a little taste of it. They're so so much more. There's probably 10000 salt. Great songs from the mid fifties to the mid to late eightdear.

The Bee Gees were the kings of Disco but KC & The Sunshine Band were a close 2nd with songs like Boogie Shoes, I'm You're Boogie Man and Get Down Tonight. Of course we knew the lyrics. We listened to this on repeat on our record players or mix tape cassettes we recorded. It also played at least once a night at the roller rink.

The BeeGees were: the tallest and oldest brother (with the big hair and beard), Barry Gibb, born September 1, 1946, the only surviving Gibb brother. Robin Gibb (with the long hair, no beard), born December 22, 1949-passed away May 20, 2012, and Robin's fraternal twin brother Maurice (the balding brother with the beard, pronounced "Morris") Gibb, born December 22, 1949-passed away January 12, 2003. They also had another, younger, brother Andy Gibb, born March 5, 1958-passed away March 10, 1988. The three oldest brothers were born on the Isle of Man (UK). Oldest brother Barry got seriously burned when he accidentally pulled boiling tea over himself at 18 months old. He was in coma for a while, nearly died and was in hospital for many months. Because of this, he did not learn to talk until after the twins were born. Later the family moved to Manchester and from there they emigrated to Australia in 1958, right after Andy was born. All 4 brothers are just natural musical talents. All of them dropped out of high school in their early teens and none of them could read or write music. All their compositions were created completely organically. Their musical career, which they had started as little kids, didn't lead to international success so they moved back to the UK in 1967. Then they had a string of big hits, until they temporarily broke up around 1970 for 15 months. Started back up, looking for a new sound which they first found in 1974 with the transitional album "Mr. Natural". After that "Main Course" was the first album that moved them into a new direction: more rhythm&blues, dance music like with great hits like Nights on Broadway and Jive Talkin' (and was also actually the first album on which their logo was introduced). From 1976 on they went all out with falsetto driven dance music which lead to their biggest commercial success as they provided classic songs for the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack (1977 Stayin' Alive, How Deep is Your Love, Night Fever amongst them). You should react to the 1979 live version of Stayin' Alive, too kzread.info/dash/bejne/aaKdurWhZ9m9gqw.html Other great songs to analyze: great album tracks from the 1979 Spirits Having Flown album, the title song: kzread.info/dash/bejne/iXyTzJtplqavm5c.html, the outrageously beautiful song Reaching Out kzread.info/dash/bejne/qJp8t7VufcmWYLQ.html. From their Still Waters album, Smoke and MIrrors: kzread.info/dash/bejne/f4ht2LSBg7q0ks4.html. From the 1960's I've gotta get a message to you kzread.info/dash/bejne/dXVopaundNG6m5s.html. And from the 1990's the simple song Blue Island live in an accoustic version: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y2pmqc56ddPMorw.html. Andy was kind of Barry's mini me, about half a foot shorter and 12 years younger but they were the only lefties of the family. However, his voice was nowhere near as broad in range or as strong as Barry's. As producer Alby Galuten said in the book "Tales of the brothers Gibb "Andy's falsetto was nowhere near Barry's." Andy had a lower, huskier, sound to his voice and his range was not as big as Barry's. I personally always thought his voice was much better suited to songs of his first album, Flowing Rivers. Andy died of myocarditis - which is an inflammation of the heart - on March 10, 1988, 5 days after his 30th birthday. His heart had been weakened by his drug addiction over the years which, by the way, was also the main reason for his split from Victoria Principal. He also had a congenital heart problem that was later also discovered in Barry and Barry's second son Ashley. Try listening to the song Dreamin' on kzread.info/dash/bejne/X3-YpLiEk7a5g9o.html which is kind of a duet with Barry. And here are the 4 brothers live on stage in 1979 doing You Should Be Dancing kzread.info/dash/bejne/kWqBtI9-j7TgqpM.html And finally a few photos of Barry and Andy: i.postimg.cc/jS6n3Jkv/Barry-Andy.jpg and i.postimg.cc/TwnPh8M0/82c126fc42a35d3b737867af41338199.jpg and the 4 brothers with their mother i.postimg.cc/FRNMbwkD/b9b2561eadffee11347573c97063c2f8-zpsd89478eb.jpg

You started singing out 'Night Fever'. While recording 'Staying Alive' the Bee Gees were short one drummer. So their genius producer Albhy Galuten took a few drum beats from from 'Night Fever' looped the tape (its the seventies) halfway across the studio over microphone stands back into the recording console to have a temporary drum track. When their drummer returned and listned what they had done in his absence they all agreed that there was really no need to re-record the drumtrack.

That's a funny reference, you should check out the Bay City Rollers doing Saturday night. It was just something that my younger sister was into before she got into harder rock. But it was so popular,. That song got performed at so many football games and whatever, because they spell out the letters to Saturday night and then they hit it with the simple driving 70 thing. Not to mention that Elton John had a huge hit with Saturday Night Is All Right For Fighting. And then you've got something as innocuous as very early Chicago in the early seventies, doing Saturday in the park. But late in it like so many Chicago early jams, it picks up and they're going nuts and then they're chanting in Perfect Harmony about Saturday Saturday Saturday, lol.

It was smoky and over the top and kind of cheesy but still just as irresistible. It's just getting started but I can't help but thank shortly later in time and I would say Cameo from their album feel me, before they paired it all down to like a three-piece and achieved massive pop stardom. But the songs from this album is what everybody was listening to at black parties in high school and it was so fun. Roller skates, Your Love Takes Me out, keep it hot, it has all that attitude but this came out around 1980 so it added a bit of that bit more modern Funk to it and it was like 10 guys just going off doing all kinds of stuff and it was so compelling. The best dance music ever. That and the Gap Band, Humpin' People

It was kind of cheesy but really it was representative of all the really amazing stuff that was starting to go down at the time. And it was certainly not limited to disco by any means. I can't remember the name of the band but I want to say it's called Tramp, and it was on that same soundtrack to that movie and it was called Disco Inferno. As a budding young rocker I really wanted to dislike it infectious. Just like this song.

Bee Gees = Kings of Disco Donna Summer = Queen of Disco It's not really a question or debate. I will say there were plenty of Princes(not Nelson Rogers) and Princesses in Disco though.

I may easily be wrong on this. But by my understanding, The Bee Gees are the most successful disco band ever, by US sales. But ABBA is the most successful, in overall sales.

FYI they hated the word disco. They called their music contemporary r&b and blue eyed soul. The disco label became a backlash against them and they couldn't even get their music played on radio. They turned to writing and produced for other artists for a few years and Robin released solo stuff

@@Zlata1313 Yes. They knew disco’s days were numbered. The bus was heading for a cliff. But let’s be honest. If The Bee Gees weren’t disco, nobody was. To answer the question “Is this group disco?” we must ask “Does this group sound like The Bee Gees?” They might not have liked it. But they came to define it, like it or not.

@@robbob5302 they weren't and said so, repeatedly. Have you seen interviews with them? Do you know the story behind Saturday Night Fever and how those songs ended up on the soundtrack? They had the disco tag hung on them only because SNF was such a stratospheric success.

@@robbob5302no they were not a disco band. A hand full of songs in a 50 years does not make them a disco band. Actually apart from You Should be Dancing and maybe Night Fever all the other songs are R&B, not disco.

@@TheBrownlj correct they weren't a band, they were a Trio, and made a few Disco Hit Songs that came to DEFINE DISCO because of the movie and timing all converging in a barrel of lightning.
