BEST Darjeeling Day Food Tour I Keventer's + Glenary's + Kalden + Teendobato + Gang Jong + Hot Toddy
In today's episode we are continuing our food explorations in geh scenic hill station of Darjeeling. And to guide us on this tour we have with us our host Ujjawal Chettri who is a proud local, entrepreneur, painter and musician.
Before jumping into the food we check out the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, popularly known as toy train. It is a narrow gauge train that was established during the British era and has now become the lifeline of the city as well as the chief tourist attraction. These cute looking trains and the beautiful path assure you a memorable joyride.
From there we went to the Mahakal Temple, perched atop the Observatory Hill. It has an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and white Chorten side by side. The place also offers a magnificent view of the Kanchenjunga.
Finally we kicked off the tour with a classic chicken platter from Keventers which is a 100 plus years old landmark establishment in the city. We thoroughly enjoyed this English breakfast platter along with the stories from the third generation owner Rahul Jha.
Next stop was Rimbick Fresh, a departmental store dedicated to local produce and products. Here you can find your favourite food and lifestyle items procured from different parts of this region.
Then we took a walk down the gorgeous Mall road and tried some puchka from the local vendors who are all from Bihar. From there we landed up at Chaurasta, an open community space with great views.
The next stop was Nerdvana Books & Coffee which is a cosy contemporary cafe serving an innovative menu of beverages and snacks. Our pick was a locally made kombucha which is a tea based probiotic drink.
From there we went to Teen Do Bato, a cherished eatery by three friends which was in its nascent stage. The interiors were getting ready but we got to taste a couple of things from their menu that was whipped up in the makeshift kitchen. There was multigrain bread with hummus and shitake mushroom. All the ingredients are locally sourced.
Next we savoured some fried snacks from Noor hussain who sells it moving across Chaupati. From there we went to Gang Jong Restaurant in search of taipho. Luckily, we got our hands on the chicken one. It was like a big bready momo.
The penultimate stop was Kalden cafe, an old family run Tibetan eatery. At the recommendation of the genial owner with the best smile we tried the kauri which was tiny hand made pasta tossed in stir fried veggies. These tasted like noodles but had a fluffier mouth feel because of its shape.
The final destination of this tour was Glenary's which is another legendary institution established during the British era. This bakery cum restaurant is a must visit place for the food, ambience and legacy.

The visuals combined with the narration was so lively and real that even the aromas wafted across. Darjeeling always remains in my top three destinations because it plays with my moods. The magic of this place puts a cheer in the gloomiest mind. I'm sure Anubhav returned from his North Bengal trip with a treasure trove of fond memories.

you are very lucky my friend
No cheese no butter no fancy restaurants no western food only pure desi historic cuisine❤️
It is a nostalgia overload for me. I lived in Darjeeling from 1996 to 2005. Never had the opportunity to go back but I am quite happy to watch this video. Things have changed a bit but the essence has been retained. You have reignited my desire to visit Darjeeling.

Beautiful place, people and culture
Was in the Darj hills recently and just got back to Bombay. Missing it already. Love Darjeeling and the hills. People are so much better, places are cleaner, better sensibilities. Lotsa love and full power to all the young entrepreneurs. Rock on 🤘.
Mr Rahul the owner of keventer Darjeeling is so humble and soft spoken person.

There have been innumerable travel/food vlogs from Darjeeling. Very few have been able capture the town like you. You're the best of your kind, a legend! Lots of respect... really hope to meet you someday and share a meal and many stories about food
After 14 mins Anubhav Sir transferred to Peaky Blinders 🤩🤩🤩🤩
The fog... the green signal... n the train honking... was a beautiful start... i think the episode today, portrays darjeeling far more versatile than what anyone would have known... It all comes together as a beautiful mosaic, of its myriad culture, be it food.. its history... the old buildings.... or the belief s... escorted by a wonderful host, whose narration at each point was attention seeking... For me, personally... 'churmur' was the catch in today s episode... not to miss out on the teapot paired with the cup!
Mithila food tour was one the best episodes. My whole family watched on tv. Even i watche 3-4 times. Though i belong to magadh region of Bihar but i will tell that Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga , and that village videos from Mithila and saran was absolute masterpiece

Thanks for sharing! I totally agree with your view that God is "ONE". In fact, we have so many religions because.... God is too big to fit into one religion. Different journeys.... Same destination. Stay blessed!
Visited Darjeeling back in 2007. I was only 9 yet I remember quite alot of my experience. Easily Top 5 trips of my life so far.
I love to seat at Keventers.... with a cup of hot chocolate..... And watch the beautiful view of Kanchenjunga. You should visit during the period of October to February....for the view of Kanchenjunga.
