Glad you liked my idea.I do like running in water so had already experimented with star cut EPP foams. These were too dense so when I saw one of these donuts in a pound shop I had a light builb moment. I use 100mm donuts in my Rowdy 1.9's and 110mm one in my Wraith running 2.2 HPI Rock Grabbers. The smaller ones are available form B & M Bargains for £1 each and the larger sizes from Poundstretcher for the same amount. @@JustScalin I'm just gald others have tried and liked them. I was fed up with stock foams degrading due to water damage so figured it was worth a shot. Being spun plastic they should be impervious. A local club mate did a video after seeing my Wraith wheels and tyres set up with a packer and outer donut kzread.info/dash/bejne/q4GrytGsqZm3qdI.html He went for a larger size to support his heavy rig

Hope you enjoy them as much as me. I had the truck underwater and the tyres leaked and didn’t even notice as the donuts held up fine

Good stuff, tbh the person who came up with selling a bit of foam for £50 is a genius too. I was trying to think of an alternative to paying through the nose for some sponge.

Just used these for the first trail rock crawl. I used the large (8.75 cm) and they worked an absolute treat. Suuuper Soft, grips like gorilla climbing a building. I have used the 11cm for trail driving they work a treat also just firmer.

Seeing this a year later and just did this before I saw the video I found the bigger size for mu 2.2 tires and just found 4 for my 1.9 tires and can't wait to put them in

I use 8 cm hair buns in rc4wd trail buster 1.9 tyres they work great

Damned ,search for waterproof foams so long! I use Pro Line closed cell ,now there are wear out .Today i use A.L.T. waterproof foams (not cheap but very nice performance).Damned now i want to test this!!

I saw you running the showdown tires I had to try them on my trx4 wow are they crazy good

Yeah they are my fave all rounder for just going out and having good grip. Testing others on my LCG rig but in the summer rowdy’s were fine

I wonder if the reason why they work so good is that they're round. Like round on the sides whereas conventional phones are flat on the sides. One of my tuning secrets is getting the profile of the foam to match the inner profile of the tire. I literally reshape the foam insert.

Lol, I bought some XXL hair buns (120mm), and they are a bit too small for my new Proline Hyrax tyres (which are 145mm outer diameter).... Not much choice in the way of 14-16cm hair buns, at cheap prices! They do fit in my 2.2" Losi Rock Claws, which I'll probably fit to a spare set of rims, for a wet weather / mud trailing wheelset :-)

As an update, I've now bought a set of large (10cm) ones, for my new TRX4 Sport running the stock Traxxas Canyon tyres on 1.9" alloy beadlock wheels. The hair buns are £1 each in this size thankfully!

I have tried Mebelin Hairdonuts and i am impressed,do some though climbs i have problems with my stock foams and even with A.L.T. waterproof foams!

@@MrEggertaler sorry kann auch Ebelin heissen wichtig ist nur 4 vom gleichen Hersteller im Durchmesser 9cm! Die fallen sonst meist unterschiedlich aus.Fahrzeug Traxxas TRX4 Sport 2,9 kg 1.9 Pit Bull Rock Beast mit Stahl Beadlock Felgen. Habe schon einige Videos auf meinem Kanal in denen ich diese Einlagen eingesetzt habe.ist vielleicht nix für Comp aber für Hobbyfahrer die auch viel durchs Wasser crawlen zur Zeit noch optimal.

Hi I Just got some 10.9cm for my ftx outback 2 ranger I have put the hair buns in the tyres and refitted the beadlocks and there very very hard so should I put them in all four wheels so there hard all round, in just the front, in just the back or put the original foam back in so there's soft again I have tried looking on the tinterwebanet but I can't find an answer any help/info would be great

@@ricardoruiz58 they worked ok, not as compliant as single stage foam with poor side hilling but completely waterproof. Can't compare to dual stage as I haven't tried those, can only think they would be inferior. There is something to them as ottsix (?) offer a dual stage with this stuff wrapped round the outer.

Fantastic video Joe ill be getting some. Would you say that they would work in the heavier defender or get the next size up?

From what I’m seeing on Facebook you’d need a 11.5-12.5. The ones you saw me using today were 10.5’s

Can you cut them I can’t find that size here in Canada. Closest is 5.5”-6”

Rowdy’s if you want their most aggressive and best performing off-road tyre. Their griffins or ardents are good if you want something “scale”

I am wondering how they would do with double wrap wheel weight rims.

B&M sell the 100mm ones and Poundstretcher sell the larger ones. Cheaper and quicker than buying from China. Dual stage can be made by cutting an inner ring out of EPP packing foam. I use a cut up compact aersol for the hub and a bigger can for the outer size.

These look amazing. I would like to try to source them in South Africa, but I need a closer look at what they look like, it's hard to tell in the video. Please share a link or photo?

Just look for 10-10.5cm hair-buns and that would work. They should fit standard 1.9 crawler wheels with 4.6-4.8 tyres

What abou running no foam at all? Sealing the vent hole and a beadlock wheel? Anyone ever tried?

Great idea, and Gmade do have a set of pneumatic tyres. Main issue is that rock crawling does cause a lot of small tears and cuts to the casing, so one little cut and you've got a flat tyre

Hard to take this information seriously when you louise rowdy is good tire.🤣 It might work in trailing etc, but just for fun compare it to any proline predator compound tire on the rocks.. Other thing I noticed that you don’t went your tires apparently? Would love to see how this combo works in real sidehills with grippy surface. Just can’t see how it could work, but I might be wrong🤷‍♂️

The Louise Rowdy is a good all-round tyre and works great in all scenarios, but I do run Pro-Line Trenchers for technical crawling. After this video I did properly vent my tyres, but clearly if they are letting air in and out they are vented sufficiently to be classed as vented aren't they? Because of the thick sidewalls of the Louise this tyre performed fine on off-camber surfaces and grippy rocks: kzread.info/dash/bejne/iaGiqrCfeba-kqg.html

@@JustScalin that video was really nice. 👌 Did it just look like or was the rocks wet? I did notice that tire didnt collapse under at any point which is awesome no matter what tire you are using. I just have so horrible experiences with rowdys myself. Lugs are just too big and wide apart for rocks in my opinion and thats why there is no grip at all compared to the predator trenchers for example. Might be also dofferent kinda rocks overhere in finland.

It was a bit damp not super wet though. It will make a difference on the type of rock for sure, as well as a variety of other factors related to truck setup.

In this video it was on a 10t pinion with a Hobbywing Axe 550 3300kv, I've since moved to a 12t pinion so it's even faster but has more speed band in 1st.

Yeah, I must have remembered it wrong when I filmed it. Bigger ones will be firmer so it depends on truck weight. My trucks are 2.45 and 3.5kg and a 10.5 seems good for them
