This is fun to watch. Thanks for posting it. Reminds me of comedian Brian Regan who commented on microwaving pop tarts. He said something like "if you have to zap fry your pop tarts, you may want to rethink your priorities!" What I mean by that is, a little more than 2 minutes set up time while you're in a relaxing camp ground is no big deal. Nice job! You look like you're having a lot of fun enjoying your family and new tent. Awesome.

From a guy that's done a LOT of camping, I can tell you that this tent looks like it would easily go up in 60 seconds or less - WITH JUST A LITTLE PRACTICE! Yeah, I like it a lot and this one's on my wish list. Great review, man. Love the kids, too.

I'm a huge fan of the Coleman Instant Tent. Love your review and your little Helpers! I found no leaks or puddles July 4th. Huge down pour around 4am through 12am. 5mph to 25mph gust of wind. 2year owner of the Instant tent. Um no foot print was used from the beginning an is very think for a ground floor. I am 4'11" and able to set up in 45 seconds! Staking another 6 minutes. Aloha from Oahu.. and from the Camp grounds of Bellows AFB

I bought this tent a few months ago. It’s by no means an 8 person tent. It can comfortably sleep 4-6 adults (depending on size). It is extremely easy to set up. I got it set up the first time with a buddy & we did it in 10 minutes, so it’s pretty easy to figure after you’ve watched a few of these videos. Folding it up is equally easy. I’ve managed it with the help of one person in just 10-15 min max with not much effort. The bag is larger than required so you don’t have to struggle to get the tent into it even if there’s a bit of air in it after rolling up. Overall, it’s well worth the money. Seems to be of good quality, it has a few pockets inside to keep essentials, floor lining is solid, Loops on the roof to hang camping bulbs. I’ve used it thrice so far & love it. I’d advise anyone considering a Coleman to go for something a little larger than what they advertise as their claims on capacity are inaccurate. Knowing this, I went for an 8 person although I only needed a 4 person, I’m glad I did.

first time set up, not bad at all. I spent all summer for yrs in a 2-man pup tent (they were bigger then than now, fit about 4 in there) so I know what it's like to rush a set up. Great job!

I have the 6 person version of this tent and for 2 years its been all that it was represented to be. 2 things seem to be the focus of attention in the comments section. One is the "person capacity claims". To maintain an industry standard for capacity, the size of ALL tents is the maximum number of standard sleeping bags that can be fitted on the floor. I can't think of a more logical size rating other than strict footprint dimensions and that can be deceiving. Two, the rain fly thing. ALL tents, before use, should be seam-sealed and waterproof-sprayed. I don't think there is a mfr. that doesn't suggest it in the owner's use instructions. That being accomplished, this tent does not need an additional rainfly. THAT BEING SAID, I did purchase the optional rainfly as a protection against UV degradation. It's simple enough to pull it over the framework and clip it to the poles. The rainfly also has guy lines which do add stability to the tent on windy days. The heavier denier was a big factor, in my purchase decision. At 150 denier, it's double that of most other mid-class tents. Excuse my horning in on your video presentation, John. Just spreading the word.

Excellent point on 'capacity'. It simply means how many sleeping bags fit. For practical purposes however... a "4 person" tent is perfect for two people and gear... with a bit of room to move about.

Thanks for the review. It was great. You done a great job. Maybe I should have checked KZread (your video preferably) before I attempted to set it up last weekend. :) I never had any experience setting up ANY tent. First time experience, so I had no clue how it even looks. Anyway I managed to get it up with the help of a friend. 3 Factors: 1) It was nighttime (had only phone flash to help), 2) First time 3) I had a couple of drinks. lol. Well anyway I too am glad with my Colemen 4 Person Tent purchase. They have done a very great job. Note the 4 person tent sleeps 2 comfortably and maybe 3 slightly.

Thanks for the video John. My wife and I just came home from Bimart where we bought this same tent, it's three years after this video was put on youtube and I see there have been some changes in the tent. Ours has only four corner legs instead of the six in this video and the two center legs were replaced with a simple short ridge pole that supports the roof in the center and does it quite well without the legs. I set ours up in the back yard when we got home just to try it out before our camping trip next weekend. Like John it took me a little longer than one minute but I am certain that next time I will do it in less time. Anyway you look at it, it's very quick and easy to put the tent up.

Two versions of this tent. Big box retailers typically have the tandem hub type which is what you bought. No offense, but the frame quality is something less than the more expensive single hub version, plus the fabric is not the 150D found on the better version. ALL tents should be seam-sealed and ceiling and walls sprayed with a water-proofer BEFORE using it in the field.

@greymy It doesn't come with an unattached ground sheet. But for family style camping at campgrounds, you don't really need one. The floor is very sturdy and made out of the 150D fabric which is twice the thickness of most tents. This tent is awesome! One night we had to leave the tent and everything behind. The winds got up to 50+ mph. We stuck everything inside including our 12' Sea Eagle boat. When we returned the next day, even the rangers couldn't believe the tent was still standing.

@Voodooshot We had a HUGE rain storm and 5-20mph winds that came with it. The first day we didn't have any water come in. We had closed up the top vents, and also took our time to make sure the velcro closures and flaps were done correctly on the front panels. The 2nd night, we forgot to take the time to correctly close up the front closures/flaps on the front panels... we had quite a bit of water. But.. THAT was certainly our fault. - John

@UsedCamping Forgot to mention this, though- for mine, (6-man) I needed a tarp to set it up on to look it over, (very rainy Christmas without usual snow) and I'm going to use it inside the tent, but only really to protect the floor from my cot, not the rain. As for the stakes, if anybody's buying this, buy good stakes, and the front and rear loops need replaced for the V-shaped ones. The stock stakes are for backpacking tents-not evem dome tents. And, there's a fly comming in April.

Great Video John! I have the exact tent and absolutely love it. To answer some of the questions about take down.. It definitely is not the same as putting it up. However it still is fairly easy. My overall time to take it down is around 5 minutes. Generally most of this time is pushing the air out as i roll it back up. Coleman was smart enough to make the bag noticeably bigger than the tent. This makes it easier to get back in storage bag. Again great video! Oh ive now been through several thunderstorms in the mountains of Colorado.. Not a drop of moisture.

Keep ahold of the center top piece and lift the top far poles out 1st so that the side legs flop down and lock in place since doing the near top poles 1st blocks you from getting them all out first shot before walking around extending. Then its a piece of cake having the top and sides ready for extending. I'm sure you can do it in half the time keeping ahold of the center piece and starting with the far side 1st.

Hee hee. You also seem like a great father, you never once got mad at her, saying that she's in the way, because she is just trying to help. and when your wife suggests doing the top of the tent, you are smart and check it out, you don't get offended or get mad. Very cool! You sound like you all have a great relationship. So nice to see. I wish you and your family very well, and happy safe campings!

Amazing video and adorable kids! This this video prompted me to purchase the exact same tent! I am looking forward to trying it out this summer. I am a little concerned that the tent does not come with a rain fly. What has been your experience with rain?

Although it's a pretty good idea for a footprint/sheet, we've never used one yet and haven't had any issues.

The smaller ones set up in a min - the bigger one takes maybe 5. Always change the tent stakes, we use 9" nails from Home Depot. Looking at this tent, first the 6 person, now this one. The Coleman instant tents get very good reviews.

9" nails for tent stakes?? haha surely you jest! Try 16" stakes; they will hold against anything!! This guy is a joke.

Great video! Have you experienced rain with it? If so, did it leak? Did you get a rainfly and/or did you seal the seams? Thanks!

looks fairly easy to put it up, you should do another video on taking it down. I need one to go to iowa. Weather is crazy down there, 30 mile hour winds and when it rains it just pours. that's why they got the wind mill farms down there. thanks
