Good on Wei Yi for finally showing his class in a major tournament. It's ridiculous that he's been considered a has-been but is still only 24 years old!

Wei Yi started college at Tsinghua University (Top 2 in China) School of Economics and Management in 2018. He's probably focusing more on school work in the past few years. Great to see him back at the top level.

Its a smart move. Even top level chess doesn't really pay well unless you've got a lot of side channels to monetize it (Ie Magnus and sponsorship deals, or Hikaru and youtube income), and that hasn't always been an option for chinese players. And he hasn't yet proven he can hit the Magnus or Hikaru level of fame. So having a plan B is a smart move (And chess dudes usually are great at math, so a business qualification is definately a sound move)

I like this thematic continuity between the Tata Chees tourney recaps and now a Wei Yi deep dive.
This is the type of game where I realize I will never ever be a chess master like these 15 year olds
Hearing Levy say "Skibidi Toilet" did more psychological damage than all the blunders in the "How to lose at chess" series combined.
Its impossible to calculate something complicated as this game if you are not Super GM so many slightly different moves and yet you totally mess the entire position, this got to be one of most complex attacking game I watch in year or two. Even if some of the moves was forced maybe 5 or 6 still hard to see in such depth.
I've actually been following Wei Yi not long after I started playing chess (3 years ago). Unfortunately, I started following him at a time when he never played and was just gone from the chess scene. I started following him due to his attacking style of chess. You can call any top player like Hikaru, Magnus, Ian an aggressive or tenacious player, but not Wei Yi, He's literally an embodiment of the word attack in chess. I became a fan after watching his win vs. Alireza in the junior blitz 2019. He and Boris Spassky are the two players I would call my favourites. I'm happy he's finally getting the attention he deserves and Him finally getting back to the chess scene. I'm looking forward to his future games!
Wow. What a game! Thanks for making this video about Wei Yi, Levy ! One thing I noticed about his games during the Tata Steel tournament is his imagination and creativity -- esp. in the opening (throwbacks and/or sacrifices galore!). This man is truly a genius! Can't wait to watch him in future games! He could be the next world champion from China!

Levy breaks the algorithm every time he mentions Magnus along with Hikaru
Awesome video! It was super instructional for Yi's style of play and how to think like a GM but I also love that you did a close study on a chess player to follow-up Tata Steel and who is probably oft forgotten/lesser known compared to the household names. Please do more on the other players.
Only when one is young and literally fearless would they even consider calculating this line

'Gem of the chess world' is a very well said phrase. After watching his immortal game in 2015, I really want to see more of him in action and even held the notion that he would one day become the world chess champion. That is something left to be seen as at his age, it is still technically possible,. But for the time being, we can only wait unabatedly while enjoying the masterpiece churn out by him.

ima wei yi super fan! absolutely enthralled by his style
Love these kinds of videos.. and wei yi's story is indeed really good!
c4 was the second best move with M9. Qf7, which Wei Lee played gets M8. It takes a while for Stockfish to calculate M8. Later, Wei Lee had an M4 opportunity with g4+, but did the M10 option.
Hello from Mr Rutledge and OCS! It was great meeting you in Toronto!!
Levy: "Guess who's back? Back again. Wei is back, tell a friend"
The first time I heard of wei yi is when the Tata steel started
How Wei Yi calculated the position for about 15 moves ahead after the move Nd5 reminds of the game that Garry Kasparov played a long time ago where he sacrificed the rook on d4 against Veselin Topalov and he also just like Wei Yi calculated for 15 moves ahead. INSANE!!!
Great video and great learning points. Thanks for posting.
If you are smart, you should play chess. If you are very very smart, you should quit chess.
Astonishing - let's hope we see more of this guy
This game like a best Kasparov game.
This shit is so good it even managed to get into a Graham Burgess book
I like to see you this happy for having a great man back in charge❤
I love these vids they are so amazing and make my day so much better
Hearing Gotham say Skibidi Toilet is hilarious
What amazes me is how in certain positions you say there's only one winning move. Like the whole tactic hangs by a single thread and GMs still know to sacrifice material 5-6 moves before

The best 23 mins of analysing Wei Yi's gameplay!! 👏👏 Also i couldn't believe Wei Yi was playing against another GM whose last name is *Batista* !
When black had only 3 moves and the only one not leading to mate was Ke6, I couldn't figure out why the evaluation jumped so much... like if those are the only moves, why was it equal before? So I ran analysis on the position and found out Stockfish just didn't realize yet how winning the position really was for white. So that makes TWO TIMES in this game that Wei Yi found a winning line before Stockfish did. Wow!
