    Good stuff. Of course, what you take depends on what you'll be shooting. My gear lives in two Pelican cases. But, I don't travel with them. I put the cameras and lenses I'll be taking in Think Tank camera bags. Then the camera bags go in a hard shell suitcase with rollers. That suitcase goes on the plane with me. My tripod goes in my checked bag. I've tried other configurations in the past, but this works best for me right now.

    I'm having a problem trusting the freewell filters! The cap keeps falling off when I am not using the filter and it is on my lens. And if I was to take off the cap, I am paranoid that the filter itself will fall off when I'm walking/hiking with the camera on a strap or on a quick release attached to my backpack. You know, when the lens unavoidably bangs against your body? I end up caving in and putting the PMVND filter on anyways when I know I will be on the move (which is almost always). Am I the only one having this issue with these filters?

    Love this comment. So after extensive use over several months I have had this happen a couple times. BUT not as often as I potentially thought I would and I still love the flexibility of swapping out filters quick. I am constantly on the move too and hiking etc.. The main draw back is that the cap doesn’t stay in while the filers are in very well. Too heavy for magnets. But when filters are off the cap stays on fine.

    Do you know what was the total weight of all the luggage you've brought for your trip & also did you fly economy or higher priced seating for heavier weight allowance? Thanks for the advice

  • @DrewTooley

    @DrewTooley

    Жыл бұрын

    I don’t remember exact weights but I do remember I stayed under limits. We flew economy and the only fee I paid was a bag check fee on United. I think my backpack was around 30lbs (lenses, camera bodies, batteries), pelican case was 35lbs, duffle was 20lbs.

    @@DrewTooley on a lot of international flights they say 22lbs is the max for carryon, but my peter mckinnon bag weights 7 lbs without anything in it already! not sure how im supposed to pack a camera, lenses, drone, travel tripod and gimbal on top of that.

    You cannot check any batteries. They always have to be in carryon luggage.

    Hi Drew, interesting video. There’s one matter that nobody seems to address and thats the restrictions on the weight of carry on luggage. It seems Airlines are incredibly inconsistent in this and I’ve always found it the limiting factor remembering that airlines also freak out if you put lithium batteries in your checked luggage. Looking at Economy travel I’ve seen the weight range from 5kg - 23kg with most around the 10kg mark. Certainly throwing in a laptop or a IPad Pro and the weight is right up there . Would be great to have some comments on this issue . Of course if there’s more than one of you you can share and I’ve certainly resorted to carrying in a laptop in a sleeve case so it looks like nothing but passports and reading materials :)

    Hey Chris. Great comment. I have never had any issues with weight when it comes to my carryons and they are HEAVY!!! I have traveled pretty extensively this year and always carry my backpack and pelican case in with me with no issues. Pelican case has to be close to 30 or 40lbs. Batteries!!!

    @@Chris-NZ Iearned something new recently. In the U.S. they don't care about weight for carry-on. It's the size that matters. As long as it fits in the overhead, it doesn't really matter how heavy it is. I have encountered international airlines wanting to weigh the carry-on all the time. It's definitely a hassle and sometimes I even have to take out stuff and put it in the checked bag. Also keep in mind when you travel international you have a 50lb baggage allowance but domestically in most countries, the allowance is half that. You re fine if you are only taking one flight but the moment you take a domestic flight your allowance is half.

    @@getfmlr You guys are pretty lucky then , here with AirNZ and other airlines I’ve flown it’s weight and size . I think with Air NZ it is 7kg domestically , Internationally same but 14kg for certain non coach classes but again with size restrictions.

    @@Chris-NZ I'm in Canada and we have weight and size too 😅. I was commenting on a recent trip I made to U.S. Was surprised they didn't care about the weight, only size.

    Depends on the flight. When I went on the 787 it fit under, but I still put it up to have the extra leg room. Never had an issue carting both on though and put them both up above.
