In the late `80s places stopped selling records then in the `90s a guy was in a used record store with a t-shirt that said "Save the Vinyl" than several yrs later records came back

Physical media has been dying since the start of the dvd boom! Been collecting physical media since ‘96 (I don’t see Physical media being completely d/c) as long as you have mom & pop distributors it’ll survive as long as Kino Lorber, Shout, VS, 88 Films, Arrow Video, etc. exist things will be good!) i had to go to BestBuy in IL to take back a damaged monitor Jan 1st (All the Blu-rays & 4K disc were there) Odd thing all the Xbox & Sony games were gone (Only Nintendo Switch games) there’s a debate if BestBuy is pulling away from selling games (I think they are Been paying for the BestBuy Premium membership for a year i ask if they where also D/C selling games they didn’t say “yes” or “No” which is very hinky probably cancel my BB Premium membership by Spring (it does suck BB actually over the last 3yrs have been awesome with prices and fast s&h on BR & UHD better then amazon prime)

Everything is phasing out. The DVD collecting and the fun mall culture of 20 years ago is but a tale to be told. It’s really sad. Only thrift stores and specialty shops will be left standing at this point.

My local Best Buy in Canoga Park have completely removed all physical media and have even changed how the store looks and functions. I guess it's a "new concept" store. But, there are 3 more stores in the area that seem to be still carrying at least 1 full aisle of movies (both sides) plus a few free standing units.

I know this is 2024 now and a lot of people nowadays would prefer digital and streaming media over physical copies of movies and video games since it's easier and more convenient, but I actually personally still love to collect physical media and that doesn't seem fair for Best Buy to discontinue physical media like that either, especially for people like me who still love collecting them since I'm just saying. I'm actually kind of an old-fashioned person myself since I still do things like it's 2003 almost or something being that I still do certain things a lot of people would have done 20 years or so in the past. I don't even text on phones or scan QR codes either since I'm just not in that sort of thing myself. It would be nice though if Best Buy would still continue to sell physical movies and media although at least they'll still carry physical video games from what I've heard for the time being.

I saw a retro video that was made in 2004 at Best Buy and I counted 12 aisles that were just dvds! Last time I went into Best Buy was probably a year and a half ago. They had two aisles and a couple of displays of movies, that was it.

Yeah, back then, the media sections in most major box stores were mostly physical media. Always had several isles of movies, & one whole isle each for CDs & games, because the only widespread home tech was tvs & landlines phones. They also used to have whole sections dedicated to photography & film.

I'm looking forward to when Best Buy goes completely out of business.

TBH, I actually prefer to wait until after new releases have been out for a while and buy used copies at places like CD Trader and Amoeba Records. They can be much cheaper although selection can be limited, especial for special collector's editions and steelbooks. There are still TONS of physical media that can be found at these used record shops!

Brand new ones have to sell before there can be any used ones. Once physical media becomes difficult to buy new, used selection will eventually dry up.

They have been phasing out physical media the last 20 years. Streaming services have killed the physical media as everyone chooses to get rid of the physical and don't realize potential problems like edits, removal, never uploaded, servers going down.... Plus Amazon has been outselling Best Buy in physical media so thry started pulling from the sales floor. Best Buy is expensive. I stopped going in to Best Buy 20 years ago.

There is no come back...maybe 4K only. If you want to shop for VHS, DVD and Blu-ray, GoodWill and thrift stores is, pretty much going to be it.

All of these places are trying to force us to go all digital!! I'm tired of buying everything online then having to wait for it to pick up or have it delivered to the store and pay extra for shipping!!!! I hope Best Buy goes out of business!!!🖕🖕

I remember them being the goto spot years back and now definitely not and with them relinquishing physical copies of films it’s just sad but we can still get them online and in some stores. I think Target will be next to phase of movies there or just have a small amount and Walmart seems strong still selling them

The company that single handedly closed 90% of record stores now no longer carry cds they have 10 different vinyl records to choose from are now removing movies. My next shopping experience with them will be the chapter 13 sale. See you then

@@ACD1994 For me there is no streaming service there support IMAX . Mostly when it comes to Christopher Nolan . And what is stopping the steaming site to continue to re-release the lackluster remastered . T2 4k is is one of the worst 4k remasters, Batman 1989 , any of the Pirates of the Caribbean .no just give me how it was supposed to look like . Then you have something like The Max removing their own IP for tax write off. And they did this again when it comes to discovery shows if you bought them on PlayStation. Even if it was installed they removed it and blocked them to rewatch shows they bought. F them I just watch on third party site .

I noted that the first two 4K discs shown on your video were E.T. and Army of Darkness. I purchased what will almost certainly be my last 4K discs from a Best Buy, at one of the Dallas, TX locations earlier this week. Guess which two I bought? Yep - E.T. and Army of Darkness.

Oh well, there will always be eBay, online collectors and trading/buying sites, specialty stores and a multitude of thrift stores and salvation armys. Best Buy, Target, etc. all they sell is commercial junk for the most part anyway.

The problem is their all starting to do away with physical media it’s just the change of times I mean I remember whenever I bought my first VCR back in the late 80s and it was like $300.00 now if you want to find a VCR you have to go to a flea market or pawnshop and it might only cost you $10.00 just the change of times nothing we can do about it because the digital world is never going away it’s only going to keep getting bigger the digital world has eliminated a lot of things just like the newspaper industry that’s about dead now also the way I look at it is there’s good things about the digital age and then there’s bad things about the digital age taking physical jobs away has been the biggest problem with the digital age.

This is store 188 in Chula Vista California, one of two highest gross stores in San Diego other being mission valley now if these store is getting rid of physical media it's gone for good. I rememeber being a long term rep at this store have been working there ever since 2007 have seen physical media go from big sections rolls of movies and cds to completely gone sad to see rip physical media 🙏

It’s definitely the end of an era…Hopefully all physical media doesn’t go away completely and we can still order them online. But it’s not the same as going into a Best Buy and checking everything out and picking some goodies up… 😢. Happy new year!

Im a strong supporter of physical media, although I can't blame BB for downsizing their movie section. Last number of years movies have been pretty bad, and thats not just my opinion. Lots of these films were only stream worthy, no one wants to own them. Also inflation im sure is apart of it. Who knows what the future holds?

I get wanting physical media but... what was expected? Movies, music and games are going digital. It's a simple fact - physical versions of media are not selling well. I mean... best buy also doesn't sell VHS copies anymore either. Do I love this? I am ambivalent- I prefer buying a physical game and I miss things like commentary tracks. That said I also know that companies are in business to make money and things that have stopped making money will go away. It's kinda like cloud gaming - I'm not a fan but I know it's where the future lies do it seems like "old guy yells at clouds" to be upset about it.

Do you own the RUDY steelbook? It’s a great comfort film, definitely worth a purchase if you like that sort of thing. A bit cheesy but got a lot of heart. I imported it to the UK, cost £35 🥴. But it’s worth it.

We literally have the best technology that’s ever existed ever ever ever, stuff my grandparents would never have believed possible. Just when we get the good stuff, the world has gone insane. If physical media isn’t making a profit, it’s because of the most ridiculous amount of stupid content ever. I mean all we have left is the old stuff. Most of the new stuff I grew up loving, I wouldn’t put my blueray player thru the stress of running most of this new crap thru it. Garbage. I blame it all on the whimpering wimps that couldn’t handle wearing a pair of glasses for a 3d movies and literally cried it out of existence. Now the same people making the worst content we’ve ever had on the silver screen. It’s a slow fade to suck.

I haven't been inside of Best buy in years Well never mind scratch that I bought some stuff from Black Friday cuz they had some better deals than Amazon and they charged me and sent me two copies of something so I went to the store and I wanted to get credit and they don't do credit anymore probably cuz they're getting rid of physical media but they had the physical media that I wanted behind me so I thought that was kind of strange. Definitely won't be going to a Best buy again ever so they've been on their last leg for a couple years now this might be the end. Walmart is getting rid of their video games their physical video games anyway so I don't know why Best buy didn't put all those movies on sale and it's just going to be a right off or are they still going to sell them online on the warehouse tip just to get rid of them. Inquiring minds want to know

Yeah its a drag no sales since they are getting rid of em, they prolly ship those films back and get a refund for the cost of getting them from the companies or maybe sell them online
