Analog octavers are just quirky when it comes to tracking, but one thing that I find helps a lot is turning the tone knob down on your bass. That gives you a more focused fundamental and then the pedal doesn't get confused by the harmonics/overtones.

True. Scott Divine explained that thing too.

Also playing super close to the neck will help tracking, especially if you've got a fuzz in front of the octaver
I've been watching octave pedal videos for 3 hours now. You just sold me. I'm buying one now.
Great way of showing off the functions of the pedal Cheers.
Thank you so much for the review. Let me try one 👌🏿 Greetings from Uganda 🇺🇬 👊🏿🖤
Great job!
Give the Mosky P90 Pro Phase a try, copy of the MXR, so much fun after fuzz. The Mosky XP is a copy of the Xotic EP which is a copy of the first solid state Echoplex preamp-- on its own it's a clean jfet boost (the XP (and as such the EP)) but the magic in it is how it can drive overdrive pedals as well as the preamp gain stages in a tube amp. The notorious Cuvave Fuzz Mark 2 with a starved battery voltage attenuator pedal turns it back into the smashing copy of the ZVex Wooly Mammoth gated fuzz the Mark 1 was. With the tone and fuzz knobs dimed and the voltage dialed in at 8.2v or below, followed by this octaver and a phaser is guaranteed raucous joy and sonic anarchy. The Mooer Yellow is a copy of the Diamond Yellow optical compressor. It's a champ! The Mooer Ensemble Queen is the best cheap mono bass chorus going. The Mosky Super Rat!!! So many pedals, so little time...
Gonna have to get one now!

Nice video. Was curious about this one. I have an original EHX POG. It tracks nicely but there is a latency issue. Plus it's freaking huge and uses a proprietary ehx power supply. Might have to check this one out.

Cheers! The POG definitely has its own sound too
I’ve never used, let alone tasted, an octaver I liked. Not a sound I’ve ever needed or wanted when I’m playing. That said the value for money here is really good. £30 is so affordable. Also it’s good to see your channel getting some attention from manufacturers. Soon you’ll have manufacturers sending you basses that aren’t damaged and actually work…. 😁

Same here. Fun spunds but nothing tjat I use live. Well I got that Harley Benton last week which was great! 😁
Oh yeah, just noticed the Lekato looper. Tempted to get one of these myself. Seem like terrific value for money if they work reasonably well.

It's great! For just making a loop for demos, it's ideal for me
I always play an octave up when using any kind of octave or synth effects so as to improve the note tracking.

I wish all octave pedals were +1 and -1!
I purchased one, i was leaning towards getting Boss octave OC-5 i think one of the best octave but a bit expensive and bulky for me. Primary use, i play in worship at church. I normally use octave for ending a note to have a different taste of ending a song. So i dont mind the cheap octave sound for the purpose. I also have a small pedal board for portabilty and this can be the last piece for the space. Using a P Bass I have alpha omega (overdrive and EQ), dispatch master V2 (digital delay & reverb), octave pedal, compressor and tuner. I might get a ags tone hammer for DI or saving money for noble.

That sounds like an INCREDIBLE pedalboard 😍

im also playing in a church, would there be any other uses for an octave pedal ? im seriously considering one now.
Good video as always. I wish they'd have a +1 and -1 rather than -1 and -2. The -2 will never sound good or track well.

Thanks mate! I totally agree. I never really like -2. The TC Electronic Sub n up let's you have all 3!

@@JonnyDibble I have the T-Rex Quint Machine; it has +1, -1, and +5th it gives you some interesting options.
I've returned every octave pedal that I've bought so far. I can't find one that sounds really good. I would love to be able to get some kind of sound closely resembling Tony Levin's Sledgehammer sound. Maybe I'll try this one if I can ever demo it
I want a EHX POG Nano on my board but frig octave pedals are expensive for something I can’t see myself using a ton.
I don't have a pedal board ...in fact I only have 1 pedal (Boss overdrive) but don't really use it. Plus I use a Line 6 Low Down amp which has a lot of in-built stuff on already, although I don't tend to use the Octaver, Chorus or Filter thing much. However you never know what the future may bring (like a sudden demand for Octavering).

Always fun to have some toys to play with! 😝
Managed to get mine a bit cheaper and working very well for a decent synth-bass sound. No problems with tracking at all. If you play it in the wrong area of the neck, it simply won't work

@@JonnyDibble an octaver shoot out would be great! Markbass do a 'raw' octave too. I bought the KMA, the COG was waiting list to order one
It’s pretty amazing for 40 bucks man
Why does it need a tone control? You have that on your bass!
@JonnyDibble

You might want to have tone up for clean and then rolled it off for the octave tone. Options! 😁

@@JonnyDibble Yeah, but sometimes these pedals have too many options. I tend to try and find the best setting and then leave it alone. On live gigs you can't be tweaking and fiddling -- you just have to stomp and go. I'm not big on the octave effect but for a lot of modern music it's necessary so I got this pedal and have to say, it worked just as well , if not better, than any other I've used that were far more expensive.
I think that with dry fully on effect (fully left), we loose volume so much!!! I have one bought recently, because my EXR Octaver Multiplexer have other pourpose and dont have a knob for octave levels.
I think you don’t need the 2nd octave down very often on bass. It’s. To very useful. Sonicake Boom multieffect has a boring octaver that does not track properly. The same here. A bit boring. Try out MXR super bass octave and you will hear the difference and you will prefer to pay more. Cheap pedal with a cheap sound. Don’t waste the money on this.
It sounds like a $40 octave pedal... so I guess it's on par

Its small and functional, and sounds good with a wide range! All for £30... It even has "wub-wub step" mode, to scratch that dub/dub-step reggae itch🔊
