I camp from a canoe or my small motorcycle. I buy a sack/package oh freeze dried refried beans. I divvy up this into 20 servings. That will vary with package size, and your preferences. I run the contents through a food processor to pulverize the pellets, not necessary, I just do it. Each of my servings, I pack in sandwich sized ZIPlock bags. I add some dry spices- garlic & cilantro. In camp, I boil water, and add approx 3/4 cup to a bag of bean mix, and let it rehydrate. I pack some tortillas inside a frisbee, with a similar frisbee pressed down inside of it. This 1. Protects the tortillas, 2. Provides a dinner plate, and a serving platter, and 3. Provides a couple of toys to play with. I bring along an onion, and dice up a slice to add to the beans on a tortilla. Simple, tasty, and filling. I plan to use the Stan,ey cooker over me Littlbug twig stove Courtesy of Half Vast Flying

Another modification: the French press part of the big Ikea French press fits perfect into the Stanley cookset, so you can make easily a big pot of coffee in your Stanley cookset too :-)

I already had the Stanley cookset. I had also put together a similar set up but liked many of your suggestions and was compelled to make a trip the Walmart and add to my current kit to make a better kit. A scotch Brite pad wrapped around the base of the Stanley and fitted into the Ozark cup will keep things tight and rattle free.

Really well done, and a great personality. I ordinarily hammock-camp (not long backpacks), so I cook over a fire, and I just toss an alcohol stove in my Stanley, because I can then at least make coffee and oatmeal under my tarp. The alcohol stove takes up little space, and leaves room for several of the things you add to yours. Thank you for sharing your experience with those of us who love our Stanleys. Be safe, and happy camping!

I love my Stanley cook set, it works great for hiking and camping. I like making my morning coffee and oatmeal with this kit when I'm camping. The only thing they should change is that plastic handle on the lid. I've already pushed the cups to the side, but they are great for measuring because they have a graduation mark inside the cups to measure 1-cup. I seem to find that my cheap Etekcity stove works best with this pot instead of my pocketrocket 2, the pocketrocket works better on larger pots. I put all my cook kit and misc. items together in one ditty bag.

Great Video. I just put one of the green cups at the bottom, place my BSR stove pop a mini Bic lighter and a small scrubber pad, a couple of instant coffee packets and a Tea bag, in the cup. Then the fuel canister on top that, and it makes it way easier for the canister to come out. And I still run the Ozark Trail MUG nested on the outside of the Stanley, they way I have to cups. Great Job 👍😎

I have a better option than a sponge, which is bulkier and dries slowly,. Scotch Brite Scour pad. It lacks the spongy part. The Blue non-scratch version is good. The Green version is more aggressive, and scrubs almost like steel wool. They're thin. Dry quickly. Cheap. And just about the right level of abrasiveness.

You can also use Stanley pot with the insert in the Firebox and Trangia, or if you run out of fuel you have the option of using bio fuel. Trangia fits inside Stanley, Firebox packs flat, cheaper fuel than canisters and less weight. I keep my cups or at least one (member of the green club) use a Primula filter to make my coffee, granted it may not pack together with this kit but you can use a ranger band to add it to Firebox kit. These are just other ideas, aside from your wonderful video. Keep making them, I enjoyed it much. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

That msr canister stand also fits the base of a svea 123r and coleman 502. Both are white gas stoves. I've also made a coozie to hold all of it. I used reflectix and aluminum tape. That way I can heat it then drop the ozark trail or tanley cup in there to rehydrate. It also holds everything rattle free with a long handled spoon and fishmouth spreader for hanging over a fire.

Walmart sells a separate lid for its 30 oz. tumbler that fits the Stanley pot. It has an excelent seal and would prevent spills if the pot was tipped. It's plastic, so I wouldn't cook with it, but it turns the Stanley pot into a "leak-proof" cold-soak vessel. I filled mine with water and held it upside down over the sink for quite a while with no drips or lid-failure. Sells for under $4.00.

If you want to be able to hang the pot over a fire, you can create a little retractable bail using hardware wire and those wire connectors with two screws. I suspect that the crimps with two channels would work even better, since you could loop the wire through both channels and have a running channel and a crimped end, but the single channel ones with the screws work well enough. The idea is that you double up the wire going through two of the fittings and you're able to push the fittings back to cause a section of wire to extend that you can then use as a bail, and then retract when you're done.

They have them at Amazon for $8.59 with Coupon on Amazon right now! I got 3 more sets. Better grab one (Or more) while you can. I just made a Cook Set for my daughter that's into Backpacking & she absolutely Loves it. I took the Cups out & put them in my Car Camping Kit. I put a Fuel canister in, A Jetboil Fuel Stand, A BRS 3000t Titanium Stove (Less than an Ounce) a tiny Ziploc Bag with 8 each of those little Salt & Pepper Packets, 6 Starbucks Via Instant Coffee Packets, Bic Lighter & 4 Tea Bags. I nested it in a GSI Glacier Mug with a thin scrubber pad around the inside edge to keep it from rattling. I put in all inside a small Mesh Bag with draw string with a spork snugged up next to it. Mine is identical to hers but I also have a GSI Java Drip instead of the Instant Coffee.

I just got mine yesterday and couldn't be happier. But the two cups weigh almost as much as the pot (I think, combined, the two cups are just under an ounce lighter than the pot and lid combined). So I'll relegate the two cups that came with it to my car-camping gear and I grabbed a collapsible silicone cup to use instead. But, without the two cups, it's not overly heavy and I love the large capacity.

Great review. Just got one of these 2nd hand with a tatonka steel mug and a long-handled spork. Glad i found it because these kits are hard to find in the UK at the moment. I'm storing mine in an old fleece-lined climbing chalk bag. Consider me a new subscriber 😀

A Ikea or Boden French press plunger will fit perfectly in the Stanley pot, as well. Just need to cut the rod off the plunger down and the whole thing will fit inside the pot, if you want it all crammed inside. Otherwise, just unscrew the rod from the plunger. And keep it outside the pot.

Too Funny 😮. I have these two items as my only cook set while SUV 🏕️ camping.. I warm up my can soups , etc, and eat from them .. I see folks bring all kinds of cookware , but only use a fraction of it .. SUV setup conversion is extremely simple and functional..

Great little set up that....the Stanley cook set here (uk) is about £25...cheaper if you shop around...was thinking about the GSI pot you showed and the pocket rocket 2 as a back up cook set...so Chris that’s given me food for thought...in the meantime tho I’ll use my jetboil flash it’s as easy as easy gets....

Hi Alastair, yes the Stanley cook set is a rare beast to get hold of in the UK and like you say is around the £26-35 price point. I'm trying to find one that's in stock. I'd heard that you could fit a small gas canister inside but the smallest one I have is 11 cm diameter x 7.6cm tall and I've just realised that it won't fit. Who know that there was even a smaller diameter canister out there? Guess I'm on the hunt for the smaller canister now or look out for another cook pot solution that can take the regular size.

GSI Lifetime Warranty!! Buy it once and never have to worry again! Youll save the extra money in fuel also the stanley will take a lot more time to boil than the GSI. GSI also has bowls and cups you can put all that stuff into and not need other cups or bowls due to leaving them bulky green ones out..

I'm at the fuel stand yeah be careful you're dating yourself and I don't mind saying I'm 62 I remember that I remember the landing and all that but you should add more of the Stanley cup sets like the mountain cook set and all that with it you know make a video of what you can actually put together what would Nestle together but you'd have to modify the handles so you can take the handles off and stick them in the pots or you know somehow arrange them to where you can have them all inside and have all the handles with you and everything you need that would be a nice video
