That "when I try" line was burnt into my memory as a kid. Def one of the most bad ass bosses of all time, I remember thinking how much the game forced you to progress to real,t enjoy it. When I could finally beat him without spamming smoke grenades was the happiest day of my pre teen life.

I'm a 92 guy so the first two games are a big part of my childhood, and I hope we'll get to see a Spyro Reignited-tier remake for those some day ! I was prety disappointed with how the PS2 sequels treated Onikage and Tatsumaru. Onikage because he just kept coming back and looking more and more like a Naruto villain, and Tatsu because he became so scrawny while gaining all those cool moves and not being playable.

@@Sleepless-777 yup, I'd say they should make a remake of both Tenchu 1 and 2. Both patched into one game. Improve the gameplay, the graphics and extend the map length and size ect...Id love to be a video game creator I would definitely buy it and make this game great again!

Onikage had the greatest boss theme of all time. I still listen to this soundtrack today.

We'll be lucky if From remakes Demon's Souls at this rate. They didn't even produce Tenchu. They bought it up and made the worst games in the series.

Onikage's theme just sets the mood instantly.

Tenchu is that ONE series who invented the genre that 20 years later would take over the market, but above all else they had the best voice acting ever known for a PS1 game. The woman who voiced Kagami genuinely deserves an award, and this little "I beg your pardon" from Rikimaru is so full of life that you can actually feel the relationship he and Ayame have just from the tone they use.

Everytime I see someone I know I'll just quietly whisper "we meet a aaaaggaaiinnnm"

3:44 nice come back and combos 5:25 : I always come back for this 6:55 He goes back guarding the gates and wait for you clearly the developpers loved this game and invested lots of effort and time into it. Everything was great about it the music, the characters, the boss fights, the atmosphere, voicing and the story.

I used to replay the second to last level all the time, when you fight him at the top of the castle. I loved his combo, he throws a roundhouse kick and follows it by another in the air, as a teen into taekwondo and martial arts movies that was sick! After I memorized his attacks I enjoyed making the fight as cinematic as possible; I usually fought with him a bit on the the intended arena, then the rooftop, then kocked him out so he falls all the way to the base of the castle, and I jumped after him and we continued fighting in the garden below, usually with some guards joining the fry. All of that with his amazing Piazzolla esque theme by Noriyuki Asakura playing in the background. Amazing game, there's a spiritual successor called Shinobido, it's for the PS2, made by the same guys, anyone who wants more Tenchu should check it out, it's the same core gameplay but has cool added features, like base building, a realistic physics engine, 3 factions and 3 teams of Ninjas with a loyalty systems, you can allways follow your contract or betray your employer and stab him in the back, a very complex alchemy system, and more. Highly recommended for Tenchu fans.

It's rare to be able to take a boss all over the level with you! I did the same thing. running him all over the castle to make it in to an epic duel. Even when you ended up losing it was still such a blast.

@@Raiden3651 That explains why his kicks hurt so bad. But even in the old PS1 game, I always thought it was pretty obvious he was wearing armored boots, due to the way your sword clashes against his forelegs whenever he blocks.

He wears shin guards. That's why he blocks your sword attacks by raising his leg.

Showed this to my kids and they thought i was playing minecraft mod. Wish they would have a remake of this..imagine this with sekiro graphics but same old gameplay.not like that tenchu they've release in psp.

I like how in Tenchu 1 missions go from these typical assassinations of officials and so on , and gets more and more demonic the further you progress with the story , where last mission you basically entering Hell to fight a god . Most Goated Stealth game ever.

It really is a travesty that Tenchu fell into obscurity with a couple of awful late games in the series and now basically no longer exists. This series was fantastic back in the day and was really a true pioneer of stealth games.

a trope that only happens in video games and movies- the antagonist shows up for no reason other than to give a heads up of his plans to the protagonist. In reality there is really no benefit to this, if you wanted to attack you would want it to be a complete surprise. And secondly look how wide the bars are at 0:39, any human slimmer than Goo could easily squeeze through them.

The antagonist showing up and revealing plans is a way to show how confident and arrogant the enemy is. It is really foolish but the antagonist won't see it that way because he is underestimating the main character. It's like a way of taunting. And of course it always end up badly for the antagonist

Dude you made a right meal of those fights haha used to take me seconds to beat Onikage!

They did an astonishing job with the second game lore wise and dialogue wise and...well, everything-wise.

Ahhhhh Onikage, memories of a groovy theme tune and a horrific struggle. As a kid, he taught me a valuable lesson that his only weakness was his attacks themselves even if his scissor kick can kill you in no time: Getting up to that point in mission 9, I only knew to chase down the bosses and spam that attack button, retreating only to use a healing potion, then I learned the importance of block and counter in mission 10 after so many deaths.

This game was amazing, kept me at the edge of my seat

I believe this guy is the influence to the first purple ninja in Sekiro. Instead of metal plating on his shins the ninja has spikes and pretty much does the same kick combos. He uses his legs more than his sword. But we all know the very same team designed both guys.

In my head I used to remember him with a glass of wine in one hand

Yes the game is flawless, improve graphics and extend the map length and size ect...I think from software can make a new tenchu game but the thing is not many people will buy especially the new generation they have no idea about this game. Even the old one. Its very unique old hidden gem

Being honest the voice acting never bothered me in these games as much as it did in games like Silent Hill or Resident Evil back on PS1. Than again tank controls don't bother me either so I'm used to these games I suppose. They still manage to sell the style and have substance as well to match. Ahhh PS1 memories alongside Cartoon Network and the late 90s movies.

Onikage is a strong character and a cool one too but man, his weakness is that he does not know how to swim! Heck knowing how to swim must be the biggest advantage Rikimaru and Ayame had against all the enemies..

Tenchu gaves so many references to Naruto: Rikimaru = Kakashi, Onikage = Orochimaru, Tatsumaru = Itachi.

What is the name of the music that plays everytime you meet Onikage pre-fight
