The Ninja 400, which was my first bike, is just a no brainer. It's truely the king of it's category. R3 comes second. As a Ninja 400 owner, I really couldn't complain.
Would you please tell me what you think of the Triumph T120 or T100 for a beginner? I'm 52 years old, 6'3", 220, average build, and consider myself to be a responsible and safe driver.

Very good question. I have sat on the T100 at a dealer, but never ridden one. The Bonnevilles have a reputation for being well-mannered. The power of even a T120 is not going to get you in trouble IF you take a proper riding course and spend plenty of time getting comfortable with the throttle response and clutch control. The size of the bike should be easily manageable for someone your size. 👍
Honda Rebel 300 ABS is a good beginner bike also.
Surprised the KTM Duke 390 didn't feature in the nakeds... best bang and features for buck

Very true! I might have overlooked it because it's kind of a tall bike. You are right on about it being great value and impressive features.
What would you add to the list for true beginners?
I am 5ft 4 inches. You think I can flat foot any of those cruisers?

It depends on your inseam. Check out the web site cycle-ergo.com/ It doesn't have a lot of newer bikes, but it shows the Rebel 1100 can be flat footed with a 27" inseam.

With proper training and practice with clutch and throttle control, such as taught by the MSF course
