BEST BEGINNER CAMERA for YOUTUBE? (TZ90 vs HX99)

Which is the best camera for KZread beginners in 2021? Today, I compare the Sony HX99 vs the Panasonic TZ90 (ZS70) to find out which is the best compact camera for KZread content creation and vlogs. The Sony HX-99 and the Panasonic TZ90 share similar specs: tilt selfie screen, 4k recording, decent audio, powerzoom lens with wide angle at the widest end. But, can one of them be the best vlogging camera? This fairly inexpensive cameras are, also, both really lightweight, so one may consider using them for overhead shots and product reviews. Is there a clear winner when it comes to top-down setups? Let's find it out together!

    Nice to see someone else finally did a detailed comparison of these cameras. I did a comparison video of the HX99 and the TZ95 sine years back (on this account), focusing on other aspects (so our reviews complete each other). I feel that as annoying as the 4K recording limit is, the better picture quality, stabilization, colour reproduction and autofocus of the Sony were simply too important to ignore. I'm still hoping the PMCA-RE hack will remove the limit on the HX99 at some point, but it's still my go-to travel and concert camera.

    Just bought a used TZ91 which will be my fourth Lumix camera. In my experience the features are great but the in-camera jpgs are not good. If you're happy with raw processing and, better yet, raw with exposure bracketing, then the results can be superb after a bit of Lightroom tinkering. My 1" Lumix FZ1000II bridge has often given me a better result than my full frame Canon 5D III.

    Fantastic review. I have a Sony RX100 V but I want a travel camera with more zoom. I'm going to get the Panasonic because I think the Sony's pop-up viewfinder is a little annoying. Opening and closing it is annoying, I'd rather have a fixed viewfinder. The Sony looks like it has better image quality, but I'm willing to make that compromise. Besides, I will still have my Sony RX.

  • @AleSuggests

    @AleSuggests

    9 ай бұрын

    Yup, both the HX99 and the TZ90 are perfect RX100 companions. The only thing I would consider if I was you though are the dimensions, though. If you are used to the RX100's shape and you like it, then consider that the TZ90 would be sensibly bigger and not always "pocketable", whether the HX99 would be exactly as big as the RX100 and you may have a few accessories that would fit already. Surely, Sony's tiny viewfinders are annoying! Otherwise, both cameras are great choices. Thank you so much for passing by ;)

    I purchased the ZS80 because I did not want to carry my larger Nikon DSLR with a Tamron 18mm - 270mm The settings are a bit overwhelming. I watched your video a few times. We are going to Italy in October, so I have time to experiment with ZS80. I bought it from a Camera shop in Victoria, BC. I have two batteries and two SD cards with San disk 128 gb cards. I will shooting in primarily in IA mode. What are the best settings for shutter speed, and focus to to quickly point and shoot? Thanks, Greg Sheppard

  • @AleSuggests

    @AleSuggests

    Жыл бұрын

    Hey Greg, my first Panasonic (GH2) was indeed overwhelming coming from the DSLR world (Canon 600D) a few years ago... but don't worry you'll eventually find it intuitive and make good use of Panasonic's Custom modes in which you can save/recall your settings for different scenarios (example: C1: street photography, C2: 4K video, C3: low light, etc). I would say to try to use your camera in "S" mode for now (Shutter Priority). Try to set the shutter speed between 1/100th and 1/200th of a second and let the camera take care of the other settings. Try to take a few pictures and compare them with a few pictures taken in IA mode. See which one is better... and keep tinkering the settings. I would say to set the focus to "AFC" (Auto Focus Continuous) for now, and if it does not suit you, or if you see that it "fights against you" try AFS instead (Auto Focus Single). Read the "Focus, Brightness (Exposure) and Colour tone Settings" paragraph on the manual for details about how do they work. Make sure to take the camera around before your trip and to experiment with the settings beforehand, otherwise you'll miss some beautiful Italian monuments to stare at the Panasonic Menus :) Thanks for passing by and good luck with your new camera Ale

  • @AleSuggests

    Hey there. I think the two cameras in this video are both good options to start out. They have a pretty impressive zoom and are stable enough. Otherwise, you may want to take a look at interchangeable lenses cameras. If you do, I would say maybe go for micro 4/3 (Panasonic, Olympus), so you can benefit from the crop factor and therefore get even more zoom with compact lenses. Try to get a camera with animal eye focus detection. It may really help. Thanks for passing by ;)

    @@georgewalker4260 Then maybe a powerzoom like the TZ90 which is compact but also offers a huge zoom should be convenient for travelling and wildlife photo/video. Just mind that if you want something extremely compact that could fit in your pocket, the Sony HX99 is another very good choice (the Panasonic is not "pocketable"). Also, the Sony HX99 can do slow motion, which may be a lot of fun when it comes to taking videos of animals. You could also potentially buy a camera with detachable lenses if you could find something second hand (Sony a5100, Panasonic gh4, Panasonic g80, Canon m50, etc)... that would mean having a much more powerful system that could be upgraded in the future with nicer lenses, but also increasing substantially the bulk. There are two clips in the video in which I try to showcase the audio straight out of the camera: - 3:32 talking behind the cameras (indoor) - 4:40 talking in front of the cameras (outdoor) I personally believe that the audio of the Sony is superior, but the Panasonic is decent too. Although, I would suggest pairing any of the two cameras with a Zoom H1 (or H1n) + Rode VideoMicro when wanting the best audio. It's good in low light, too. I'd consider it if I was you... the only problem is that the shots are going to be wide, due to its fixed wide angle lens. Another option could be the Sony ZV1... I never tried the camera yet, but it's got flippy screen, mic jack, great autofocus and I think if you don't shoot in 4K you may get a pretty decent amount of recording time.
