Rugby Teams always obsess over how to respond to the Haka and USA basketball nailed it. They didn't try and act hard, they didn't get agro, didn't try and act like nothing was happening and at the end, they clapped respectfully, as though to say, 'thank you for the performance'. They looked professionally respectful, a little annoyed at being subject to a compulsatory aggressive dance performance at a sports event, a little impressed and surprised, and not worried at all.

I remember watching the All Blacks in 2014 in the Principality stadium vs Wales. Two countries fanatical about rugby and both of them absolute titans at it clashing in a massive stadium. It was brilliant watching them and despite 90% of the people in the stadium being welsh, they had a thunderous applause afterwards. It would be nice if people at least try to understand what it's about before commenting...I see people talking about 'the US still won' and 'who are they trying to intimidate' and so on. It's not about that...it's about culture. Hakas are primarily a sign of respect...that's all...they're not just war cries...which is why they're performed at weddings, funerals, sports events etc I liked how the US players respected it and even clapped at the end.

yeah. Definitely. They performed HAKA since that's how they traditionally lay down the challenge because they respect their opponents, not to intimidate their opponents.

yeah thats true...but this dance doesnt really suit the atmosphere in basketball somehow... at least to me it seems really out of place... in rugby it seems rightly placed... but basketball is not a sport which is big on contact and roughness ... idk.. for some reason it seemed odd and out of place

But I don't expect it, so I'm not surprised that many people don't know of the Haka...hey I don't know traditional challenge rituals from many other countries either., do you?...And secondly, this is a video about basketball. If it were a international rugby match, then because of how big a part the All Blacks are on that scene, then most people watching this clip would have some knowledge of the Haka already.

1. The haka is not only used by the All Blacks. It's not "a rugby thing" it's a Aotearoa (New Zealand) thing. 2. It's not just performed to intimidate. It's also performed to show respect. 3. Please people, try be respectful. Think before you speak.

That's because the All blacks are the greatest rugby team the world ever seen...........they just destroy everything on their path, 3 times World cup champions .....so its understandable that their Haka are more fearsome and more intimidating than other sports " in which the NZ national team participates.......... Its the same reason why we never seen NZ " All white" football team performs Haka in any match , because they are not football " powerhouse" ....and usually they get poor results as opposed to the " All blacks" rugby team......

@@10parth10 Yes they are. At least All Blacks are the only team to beat them this year. SA only just managed to draw against NZ earlier this year and then were beaten 23-13 in the WC pool stages. But credit to SA, they adapted and won the competition.
