    Hi Emma, thank you for the video. Very informative and on point. About the stacking ring and blocks, is it necessary to buy the silicone rather than the plastic or wooden one? What are the pros and cons? What would you recommend? Thanks in advance 🙏🏻

    Hi Isabella - I bought a timber ring stacker but the centre stick was really dangerous as my son kept putting it in his mouth. If he fell forwards while sitting and playing while he had it in his mouth, it would not be a good outcome. And plastics are just not ideal because if the toxins in them (especially cheap plastics). I’d say that is why Emma recommended silicon as its soft enough and safe to be chewed 😊👍🏼

    Hi Emma. I'm not sure if you will see this comment but I had a query regarding the activity centre. I bought the Skip Hop activity centre which has the seat in it which my baby can rotate in, as well as an adjustable board on which he can stand. We used to use it more when he couldn't crawl. Now he's always on the go so he just plays with the activity centre outside of the actual thing 😅 My question is, is this type of activity centre also not beneficial to the baby? I used it more as a "let's keep baby happy while I get some chores done". But not for too long. Someone told me it's bad if a baby stands for too long (or something along the lines of that) because the baby will get bow legs. That concerned me. But no professionals have mentioned anything like that to me. Hope you can help.

    What shoes would you recommend to a baby who started walking? Would secondhand be safe to use as well? Thanks

  • @EmmaHubbard

    @EmmaHubbard

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Pri if you have a baby who has just started walking it is recommended that they walk without shoes on. But I totally understand when you're in the street or outside your little one needs shoes. When looking at shoes it is important to get sturdy shoes which are not too big. When holding the shoe in your hand: - you don't want to be able to fold it in half - so the heel should not be able to touch the top of the shoe. - it should have a firm heel - so you shouldn't be able to squeeze the side of the heel together. - Some shoes stores recommend buying a shoe which has an adult thumb width from the babies toe to the edge of the shoe, to provide grow. I find this is too big - essentially your baby is walking in clown shoes and will fall over . It actually makes more sense to me to use a babies thumb width instead of an adults thumb. It means you will be buying shoes more often but at least your baby will be able to walk without frequently falling over because the shoes are too big, I might do a video on this as it is hard to explain without demonstration - so sorry if it is confusing. Second hand shoes should be safe to use.

    Heard Sophie the giraffe isn’t safe and can accumulate mold inside? Plus it could be a choking hazard ( if a leg comes off)? Why are saucers not safe?( the ones u actually place kid inside ?) thanks I find your content to be extremely helpful:)

  • @EmmaHubbard

    @EmmaHubbard

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Pri it's nice to hear from you. Your little one must be getting so much older and stronger. In regards to Saucers are you referring to a stationary play station (one where a baby sits in a slung seat and might stand up and play with items surrounding the baby)? Generally these are not recommended for developing a babies standing abilities/walking abilities simply because they are standing in a slung seat and not working on their balancing skills or standing abilities. Also when babies are placed in this toy they often need to stand on their toes to touch the ground which isn't the position you want for a baby standing or walking. Also the babies arms tend to rest at the height of their shoulders which makes it difficult to use their hands in play. If you use this toy it would be purely to place a baby in a stationary toy which can entertain them while giving a parent some hand free time. It does not help with a babies gross or fine motor development. Over the years working with parents I have never seen or heard of a leg coming off Sophie the Giraffe but if this does occur and you want to purchase it then you can make sure you keep on eye on the toy to see if there are any breakages/cuts and throw it out if you do find any. I have also heard about the mold inside - from what I have read this may be because Sophie has been placed under the water (so when someone has washed it). The cleaning instructions for Sophie is to wipe with a damp cloth which would reduce the risk of mold significantly. If you would be more comfortable you could buy a teething ring.

    She talks about this in one of her other videos; a big part of babies development is to be able to pick up toys, handle them, and put them down--with these exersaucers babies can't remove the toys. Also, the position of the baby is not the best for development...most babies stand on their tip toes and lean forward.
