Best ATV Tires of 2018 for Pulling Hauling Climbing Stopping and Mudding! Raw Footage Part 3...

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Welcome to Part 3 of our 25” ATV Tire ShootOut for 2018. In this episode we will be digging in taking a look at which of the tires we tested are best suited for specific tasks or job duties.
Part 1: Description of the Five Tests
• 25 Inch ATV Tire Shoot...
Part 2: Top 8 Performing ATV Tires in the 25-Inch Tire ShootOut
• Top 8 Performing ATV T...
If you are tuning in for the first time in a nutshell we took 21 of our best selling or most popular tires mounted them to aluminum wheels took them out in into the field and put them through 5 different tests on a 2017 Yamaha Kodiak 700.
In Part 3 we will dig in and get dirty talking about which tires were the best performing tires for each of the specific tests tasks or job duties. Spoiler Alert in each test there were clear winners and those winners did not necessarily make the best overall tire line-up we covered in Part 2 of this ShootOut
Sled Pull: Which Tires are The Best Tires for Pulling or Hauling
1st : The Ocelot Atacama traveled for 15.8 seconds for a distance of 95 feet. (10th Overall)
2nd : Kenda K3201 Mastadon AT traveled for 14.8 seconds covering 88 feet. (4th Overall)
3rd : AMS Slingshot XT traveled for 13.8 seconds covering 72 feet. (1st Place Overall)
4th : Kenda K299 BearClaw travaled for 18.3 seconds but covered only 71 feet. (16th Overall)
5th : ITP Mud Lite II travled for 13.1 seconds covering 67 feet. (18th Overall)
Is it not interesting that of these 5 “best pulling or hauling” tires only 2 of them made the “Top 8 Performers and the other three did not do so great “overall.” Moving right along…
Hill Climb: Which Get to the Summit the Quickest
1st : TG Q373 took 13.45 seconds to summit 245+ feet. (12th Place Overall)
2nd : Quadboss QBT671 took 13.61 seconds to summit 245 + feet. (11th Place Overall)
3rd : Quadboss QBT447 took 13.67 seconds to summit 245 + feet. (15th Place Overall)
4th : AMS Swamp Fox took 13.76 seconds to summit 245 + feet. (5th Place Overall)
5th : AMS Slingshot XT took 13.79 seconds to summit 245 + feet. (1st Place Overall)
Interesting that only 2 of these 5 best hill climbing tires did not make our “Top Overall” list but they sure did excel in the Hill Climb! Now on to downhill stopping.
Downhill Braking: How Fast Can the Tires Come to a Full Stop
1st : Ocelot P375 stopped in 2.15 seconds. (2nd Place Overall)
2nd : Sedona Mud Rebel RT stopped in 2.31 seconds. (8th Place Overall)
3rd : Kenda K3201 Mastadon AT stopped in 2.41 seconds. (4th Place Overall)
4th : TG Knight Utility Tire stopped in 2.46 seconds. (9th Place Overall)
5th : Kenda BearClaw HTR stopped in 2.49 seconds. (3rd Place Overall)
We found these tires stopping power to be very impressive! The majority of the other tires took nearly 2/3rds longer to stop than these winners. Now lets look at Top Speed Braking.
Top Speed Braking: 1/8th of Mile Run Full Wide Open + Panic Stop
1st : Ocelot P375 slid for 2.1 seconds. (2nd Place Overall)
2nd : ITP Blackwater Evolution slid for 2.2 seconds. (14th Place Overall)
3rd : AMS Slinghot XT slid for 2.3 seconds. (1st Place Overall)
4th : Kenda BearClaw HTR slid for 2.4 seconds. (3rd Place Overall)
If you ride your vehicle in an area where “someone or something” darts into your path on a regular basis the tires above are your best choices if you are looking to avoid a collision. Six seconds of “extra sliding” could be the difference between a safe stop or a complete disaster. Now lets get dirty.
Mud Traction Test: Who Can Make it Through the Quickest
1st : AMS Slingshot XT killed it with a 11.6 second run. (1st Place Overall)
2nd : Ocelot P375 Tire took 12.4 seconds. (2nd Place Overall)
3rd : Sedona Mud Rebel RT took 12.7 seconds. (8th Place Overall)
4th : AMS Swamp Fox took 12.8 seconds. (5th Place Overall)
The next best performing the ITP Blackwater Evolution took almost 2 seconds longer (1.6 to be exact) for a run time of 14.4 seconds!
Well that wraps up our report of which tires performed best in our 25” ATV Tire ShootOut of 2018. In Part 2 you learned the top 8 Best Overall Performing Tires and here today you learned the best tires for a specific task. Please stay tuned as we will be releasing the test results for each of the 21 tires with raw test footage to back-up our claims. Additionally we will look at brands which are better for certain activities. Thank you for watching our Tire ShootOut. Until next time take care and Ride Safe.

It would be cool to see you guys focus on general tire types in their relation to performance. Things like directional tread pattern vs neutral, radial vs bias belt ect... Maybe even how some mid range mud tires like Zillas or Cryptids do in a test like this... Obviously they'd do well in mud but it would be interesting to see them pull and climb.. You're test set up is awesome, very in depth and informative.. Some serious surprises in this series... Great job!

Thank you for your response. We are currently in discussion on what to test next and your suggestions are right on par. Like taking the most popular "v-style tread" tires aka: GBC Dirt Devil, Slalsher AT301 and ITP Mud Lite. Or all of the tires with "Maxxis Big Horn" style tread like the BGC Dirt Tamer and test them... as they all propose to "be similar" as they have nearly identical tread patterns. - Kyle & the Chap Moto Team

Great news! Then it would be cool if you took the winners from each category and stack them against each other for the most ideal pattern.. That would be awesome from a consumer perspective..

Man, you guys ran an awesome experiment. I only wish you would have tested more popular tires! I've never heard of half the tires you tested. Would've been great to see how Bighorns, Pitbulls, Holeshots, Grim Reapers, Viprs, and Black Diamonds stack up.

Love your comment utah wanderlust700. Maxxis decided not to participate. The Holeshot tires were more ATV Racing than the other tires we were testing. Didn't think they'd hold up... and the other tires you mentioned are super MUD tires, but not top sellers of ours nor are they the best for general use. We have been talking about doing a couple more tests. Top 5 mud tires. Top 5 Sport ATV tires, etc... So much to do. So little time. Thanks for watching! - Kyle & the Chap Moto Team

Chaparral Motorsports That's too bad that Maxxis didn't want to participate. It would have been fun to see the Bighorns tested with their better brother...the Vipr. Glad to see STI was in on it. You really should try their Black Diamond XTR. It looks like a meaty tire, but it really works well in everything the Rockies and the red rock deserts can throw at it. Head to head against the Bear Claws, it is a tad better at everything, I think.

This test was amazing and thank you so much for doing it. I am seriously considering getting a set of slingshot xt’s for my 2018 kodiak 700. There is barely any reviews or long term info on the web for them. I trail ride but hit every mud hole I find. How do you think they will hold up to occasional rocks and ice that we have here in Michigan?

Hello getbigordie423, thank you for watching. The SlingShot XT's are really neat tires. Did you watch the video where our Brand Rep talks about why the tire did so well? Very interesting. Take a look: kzread.info/dash/bejne/rHWj3Keag5PTn84.html They should do amazing in snow and the grip rocks really well. I think you will be impressed at how much of a well rounded of a tire the Slingshot XT.

Brad, thank you for your comment / inquiry. The Bear Claw's (original ones) are our best selling ATV / UTV tire, hands down. I'd say Big Horn is next... Here is a quick video showing the Bear Claw in each test mentioning where it placed: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ipWrpcOucq3Vf9o.html Sled Pull = 4th ** Hill Climb = 6th ** Downhill Breaking = 11th ** Top Speed Breaking = 21st ** Mud Pit = 21st *** The Bear Claw HTR did really good and took 3rd place overall. Hi Caperfisher, thanks for watching our video, we see your point. You are correct, it's extremely difficult or impossible for us to replicate the exact test, path, and conditions for each and every tire. But these test give you a general idea as to how the tires perform in the terrain types. Thanks for watching and commenting. Chaparral Motorsports Team.

Was the Kenda Bearclaw Evo 592 in the test, just curious on how it compares to the Kenda Bearclaw HTR 587. I saw the HTR in the video and it performed very well and the EVO is supposed to be the next generation of the Bearclaw. It's been impossible to find any videos on the EVO's performance or reviews other than by Kenda and they don't even show it being used. Just the standard lineup commentary.

Hello Ed Burton, no the EVO was not tested in our 25" Tire Shootout. The EVO is the next gen of the Original Bearclaw, which we did test. The HTR is the next better than even the EVO, as compared to today's UTV standards as it is 8-ply and Radial, versus the EVO 6-ply bias tire. The orginal bearclaw, having come in 16th place of the 21 tires tested... looks like it was in need of an update. I am curious how much better it is than the original? We will reach out to Kenda to see if we can get some answers for you. Thanks for watching! - Kyle & the Chap Moto Team

The ITP Blackwater has too aggressive of a tread pattern for that hard packed sled pull. Do a sled pull on a softer track and I bet it would come out close to the top, the quad was bouncing the front end off the ground as soon as they took cuz those tall aggressive lugs were trying to get traction. Notice how well it did in the mud.

What about handling, which ones handles best ? Also did you notice if radials or bias ply continually scoring higher?

  • @chaparralmotorsports

    @chaparralmotorsports

    4 жыл бұрын

Most of the tires were bias ply. We did notice that the lighter tires did better at climbing and the heavier tires did better at stopping. When it came to pulling and stopping, the type of tread and the tread pattern made a difference. Lugs that did not "fold over"' did better for both tests. Better handling... we rode these tires in short bursts... but did not ride them for extended periods of time. Overall comfort or handling was not part of this particular test, but we will get it worked into the next test we produce. Thank you for watching and for your inquiries. -- Kyle & the Chap Moto Team
