I plan on getting a pocket WiFi while in Japan. If I enable WiFi calling on my iPhone, disable data & roaming, will I be able to imessage without an international plan?

Yes, messing will work as long as you are using one of the apps discussed it shouldn't be an issue.

We’ll be staying in Tokyo for 4 days. Besides spending a day trip to Hakone and visiting places around Tokyo, we are still open for one free day. Any recommendation on another day trip? Nikko? Thanks

Hi, great question! Besides Nikko we highly recommend Kamakura. It takes a little over an hour by train and you can easily spend entire day in this beautiful and scenic town. The Great Bronze buddha is the main attraction but plenty more beautiful and peaceful places to see and do here. On your way back you might want to stop in Yokohama near the bay is Red Brick Warehouse shopping and dining area and Yamashita Park. If you like Gundam, there is a giant moving one here! Or if you want something on a smaller scale, Kawagoe is about a 45 minute train ride from Tokyo. It has a few Edo period streets that are very well preserved. Great place that isn't so crowded. @@KenshoQuest thank you Kensho. Very helpful. Btw, which app should we use to schedule or plan on the train/bus routes from place to place besides the Google map? I m currently using JR website but seems a bit confusing and transfer time a bit short (only about 10min between trains) for first timers. We are concerned of missing the train if followed their online schedule. Thanks

@@nguye1971 if you are using the JRPass then please install Japan travels navitime app. Yes, trains are on time but if you miss one there is usually another one soon after. Other than that Google maps is probably the best.

Hi, that could be a good price depending on your daily limit. What is your daily limit? Softbank is an excellent network.

@@KenshoQuest You can use the entire month's data allowance even if your rental is short. Communication speed will slow down till the end of the month once you exceed your limit.
