Best All-in-One International Power Adapter Review - EU - UK - AUS - US | Iron-M

Friendly Review of the Universal Travel Adapter, Iron-M All-in-one International Power Adapter (amzn.to/2gLpCj5). The power adapter works in over 150 countries providing compatibility with the European Union, United Kingdom, Australia, and the United States. It has a 6.3 amp protective fuse. It has 2 USB ports which can source up to 2.4 Amps. You can get it in different colors such as black, blue, and green. It has a nice feel to it with the plastic/rubber coating.
To use it you first select the region in which you want to use the power adapter. Then you press in the button on the back of it while you slide out the selected plug. Once the plug is in place, depress the button. Then you are all set. There is an LED that shows when the unit is powered. I recommend the adapter to anyone who travels a lot. A few notes is occasionally there is a spark, and don't push in the plug with your hand (use the slider).

@@RedroomStudios What has whether or not you can see the light from the spark inside the socket got to do with anything? I agree with you about the cumbersome size of the UK plugs. A safety feature of the plug design is that there is a minimum distance your fingers can be from the pins which means making the whole plug quite large, that and the requirement for a user serviceable fuse in the plug. I assure you there is nothing more primitive than the non-polarized 2 prong US plug which was so common right up until very recently, half a century after all UK plugs had protective earth pins, fuses and safety shutters inside the sockets. Such US plugs had numerous safety flaws including that your fingers can easily touch live pins and that you had a high chance of accidentally plugging them in with hot and neutral reversed. The lack of a ground pin meant devices such as TVs in the mid 20th century often had a false ground consisting of a capacitor from the device's metal casing to neutral, which means if you plug it in backwards the casing is live. These are nicknamed "death caps", but you go ahead and complain about UK plugs.

It is physically impossible to create one adapter that is safe for everyone. European type E/F plugs have to have grounding in their own form, they do not use a grounding pin, instead they have metal on the front of the plug to connect to a grounding pin/piece of metal, due to this, it is impossible to create one safe adapter for everybody.

You know... for about 10 cents, they could include an LCD message screen that indicates when you need an actual power converter, in addition to the adapter, or to find a physical switch on the device, which selects between 115 or 230 volts. This is becoming increasingly less common nowadays, but there will be cases where the actual voltage difference could damage the device. It requires a whole new level of understanding to know this yourself, and understandably, most people will not see the need to learn it. If the information were known, it would be less of a nasty surprise (or none at all) when the hair dryer or similar device, intended for 115 volts, (if prevented) doesn't blow up under 230 volts. It's much better to be warned with a beep and a message on the adapter, than the ugly surprise of smoke and fire.

First, does your camera come with a battery that you take it out to charge it, or is there a port? If there is a battery charger you first have to check on the plug or on the charger for the voltage, if it allows 120 volts, if it does, you can probably search for the battery charger online, if you can't find the American version of the charger or it doesn't accept 120 volts, you will probably need to buy a voltage transformer to convert the voltage, or if you can't find the American version, you will need to buy an adapter.

The prongs just adapt the plug so you need to make sure your device can be plugged into that particular voltage. Most state on their power input what they accept. (The little Apple plug to USB A adapters accept 100-240V) The USB ports convert the voltage to 5 volts.

VERY DANGEROUS. It has multiple safety issues. The worst perhaps is that you can plug it in earthed wall socket and put earted electric equipment to it without the protective earth. I believe that there is no 13A fuse needed in UK. You can push plug in this so that other pin is touchable which can be lethal. Do NOT use this. I am licenced electrical engineer so I am dead serious.

Keep it simple. Do not buy an adapter that is more complicated than you need. If you have earthed equipment it is good to make sure that the earth is connected. Lets say you are in the U.S. and go to England then this kind of an adapter is good: discussions.apple.com/thread/7953627 Note it has a fuse, the live and neutral are sieved, the earth is not and there is enough clearance on the sides. Also the earth is likely connected (one cannot tell from the image for sure). You may think that these are not big issues but think if they break the rules even on the visible parts, then what is there inside? Who needs the ability to plug equipment of any country? You only have them from one country.
