I don't use these too often, but I did make one that shuffles my "Favorites" playlist in apple music on hitting the action button. That way if I'm driving and can't scroll through Apple Music looking for something to listen to, it just shuffles whatever I've played the most lately.

Adding orientation context to the action button is an absolute game changer for me. I started my search just trying to figure out a way to do camera and silent mode with the button, now i have way more. You've also given me a nudge toward actually utilizing ios's focus status capabilities.

That’s awesome!!! I need a new phone and this was something I was wondering about. Essentially for me, one major action I’d like is I want to be able to switch between showing my caller ID and not doing so instead of having to go through the menu every time. Now I can easily see how I can do that and still have the ability to use the action button in other ways! Awesome!!! Thanks!!!

I mapped mine to launch my Google Assistant shortcut in portrait and have it set to launch the default camera app in landscape right and Halide in landscape left. 🤙🏻

This is so useful! I was trying to find clever ways to utilize Shortcuts with the Action Button and this was by far the best trick! I set it up the same way as yours except when my phone is face up, it toggles “Do Not Disturb - Sleep” as sometimes I go to bed earlier than my set time and always forget to put it on do not disturb so being able to reach over to my nightstand and turn it off silently is going to be really useful. Great video. I am interested in a location-aware action button. For example, if I'm at the office I want it to do one thing, if I'm in China I want it to do something else. How can I do this?

Is there any way to program single click or double click or long hold to open different shortcuts ?

Are you able to add to your orientation action shortcut, the action button used as the start video/take photo?

The amount of quality you put into your videos are awesome. This was a great video! Definitely an underrated channel. Hopefully this video can gain your channel more eyes because you definitely deserve it. 👍🏽

I’ve got mine set to show options, but it would be cool to also add the orientations also(mainly just to start the camera). I’ll have to play around and see if I can figure out how to add that in with the menu. I’m a beginner😅

Can you turn off the notification of the shortcut app showing up so it just shows the action its doing like opening camera

Being legally blind and already using my iPhone magnifier a lot, the clear winner for me is opening the magnifier. And I value having it be as quick as possible. But I am thinking about doing the orientation aware thing to make it open the video camera when the phone is sideways.

How do you add more actions? I only know how to switch orientation

Any tips on creating location based action button shortcuts? I’d like the action button to open the Phillips hue app when I’m at home(what I currently have the button set to), notes app recording at work, and then open camera app anywhere else. No experience with shortcuts app and it’s driving me crazy lol

Yes you can set it to get current location and do an action based on that or have different focus modes activated with the shortcuts automations when you arrive at different locations and have the button switch actions based on the focus mode

I use it for Shazam. So many times I miss out on a song by a second. Not anymore smooth as butter

With the orientation can you set it up once the camera app is open that the action button works as the shutter button also

No shortcut app actions stop that from working for some reason. So you can use it to launch the camera app then you have to use the volume buttons as the shutter button.

This is great! One question - does this work on the iPhone 15 Pro as well? Does the regular Pro understand orientation in the same way? Because I know the Max handles orientation on Springboard and other stuff a bit differently.

Yes, the actions app has device orientation available on both! So it should work.

I'm trying to add a toggle for Do Not Disturb to the Menu, but can't figure out the right way. Any suggestions?

The action you want to search for is “Set Focus”. When you drag it into an automation you can tweak it to say Toggle Do Not Disturb.

Thanks! I tried that, and I think with the beginning automation “Current focus does not have any value” when DND is on, the action menu doesn’t start because Current focus DOES have a value with DND on. So I think the beginning automation would need a tweak. I randomly had one setup by Actions that had a different setup but I accidentally deleted it and can’t find it lol 😅. Which is fine. You just have to manually toggle the focus off to get the menu to work again

Had my iPhone 15 pro for a day and I do not like the action button. I keep pressing it think it is the volume up button. You can’t really tell the difference between the volume button and the action button.

You need to download the actions app. It gives additional commands that shortcuts can’t do by itself.

Ios 17.1 shit does not work 💀

There's only ONE slight problem with getting all of these features out of the Action Button. It assumes that you're using/playing with your iPhone 17 hours a day, 7 days a week in order to remain proficient in all of these features. In the past, I've always purchased the Pro version of an iPhone. This video convinced me to get the non-Pro version with the traditional silent switch. Thank you for making this terrific video.

Sucks it doesnt have double and triple press
