I’m not a good painter and started with speed paints. After a while, I wanted my miniatures to pop, so I went to the craft store to find some acrylics. Folk Art was the first brand I saw, so I just bought it without looking at the others, plus it was cheap. If I would have bought any other brand, I would have probably stopped acrylics immediately. However, I was amazed at how much coverage these had. Thank you for doing this to show how dominant this brand is.
Thanks for your hard work putting this comparison together! A really great video!!!
Ooof, the weariness at the end of each batch was palpable! Thanks for doing this!
This is awesome! Thanks!!
I Use All Of Them But Folk & Americana Have Been My Favs. (Brushes) I Actually Bought Air Brush Paints!! Live & Learn!!! (Newbie At Air Brushing) Thanks For The Video!!! Much Appreciated!!!! 👍💯😎🤘
This video was awesome I have been looking for a comparison of Cheap Craft Paints for some time and I'm glad someone finally did it.

Awesome. I was the same way so I just did it. 😅. Hope you liked it.
I used folk art when painting space Marines using their metallic sapphire blue... folk art hasn't disappointed yet
I just started to check into airbrushing. I'm glad I found your channel, you've given me a lot of info already. I appreciate this craft paint summation, thanks!

So glad my videos are helping. I’ve made a few airbrush specific videos on the basics. Feel free to reach out on my KZread discord if you have questions
As somebody new to the hobby and on a tight budget, information like this is super helpful…thanks! I’m not printing and painting my models for a competition, they’re just for my personal enjoyment…so saving money is slightly more important than stellar results. I’ve been using craft paints for several months using a brush to apply; however, I have a few models that I feel would benefit greatly from using an airbrush. So, I’m taking the plunge into the deep end and ordering my first airbrush! This is going to put even more pressure on my budget, so now I really need to stick to the craft paints. 😉
Thanks for this video, I’m just getting started and this was exactly what I needed. Video wasn’t long enough!

Ha ha most think my vids are too long. Glad you liked it. Try to jam as much info as I can in my vids.
This was very interesting, thank you. I have usually bought Ceramcoat because it is for multi surfaces.
loved the detail in this video

Thanks so much. I figured I would give all the information I can and if people wanted to skip ahead they can. Personally, I’m the type of person that likes all the information. 😅
Plaid is the manufacturer of Apple Barrel, Folk Art, and Ceramcoat. Folk Art is their "Premium" formula, so it's not terribly surprising to see Folk Art take the W over Apple Barrel and Ceramcoat lines.
Thanks for the comparison! For someone who is just getting into airbrushing, this review is a great place to start 👍

No problem glad it could help. And good luck with airbrushing it’s a fun tool to have in your arsenal.
No apologies needed very informative video. I'm going to give craft paints a try after this.

That’s awesome! I use them just as much as my airbrush paints. Best of luck!
super informative, im always making model rc cars and looking for the best durability since they are rock crawlers and go through a lot of abuse. what i found for some reason these cheap craft paints seem to be the strongest along with tamiya paints, i tried every brand imaginable and most of the model paints even the fancier ones like vallejo mecha dont seem to be as durable. my recipe in the end tended to be a polyurethane primer, followed by craft paints or tamiya and at the end an epoxy clear coat and its nearly indestructible
Very good and informative video. I bought a Iwata HP-CS a couple years ago and have yet to take it out of the box (I'm old and want to learn as much as I can before I wreck it. LOL). Thank you for your videos.

Great I’m glad you found it helpful. If you want my advise. I’d just crack it open and start using it. Your gunna mess up and that’s part of the learning process. Some of the best things that I have learned have been through a failure I’m a strong advocate on learning from your mistakes. but if you watch some of my other videos, you should be better prepared than I was when I first started. Best of luck on using your Airbrush.
Excellent video took a lot of time to help me out

Glad it helped
I have found using craft paint labeled multi surface works best. I also use a filter, but never put anything down the drain, better in the garbage dry. Also, at least 3 very thin coats makes for a smoother finish, and cleaning tip every couple minutes then thoroughly cleaning brush right away after painting
Thanks for the info.👍 Just bought several bottles of FolkArt brand paint at Michael's to use on some 3D resin prints. Do you have a recommendation for a transparent coating to seal the paint job when I'm done? (Flat and Gloss finishes.)
Thank you very much for this very precise and almost scientific test. I really like this kind of comparison test, so we can make up our own minds too. Thank you for your investment of time and money.

Your welcome. I hope it helped you
apple barrel and folk-art share a secret and a bottling line, craft smart from Michael's might come out of the same machine as well, only us employees on line 3 knows for sure. lines 1 and 2 make other brands.
Great stuff. About how much water to paint do you thin with? 1:1-ish?
One question: Do you prime the figures beforehand with something else if you use the standard acrylic paints?
Picking up the folkart set. I see you using water to thin it. I’m new to painting and 3d printing. Do I need airbrush thinner. Or water fine?
Another great video. No surprises here for me... Apple Barrel and Folk Art have been my go to paints for years! lol ... Wondering; Do you ever have issues with the paint drying in your airbrush between coats?
What layer height are these printed in? They look so smooth!
@ItsMeaDMaDe

I printed them at a 0.1 mm layer height.
Great video. Thanks! Question - brushing on the craft paint, do you think a little bit, a lot or not at all? Thanks again. Subbed.
@ItsMeaDMaDe

I use my craft paints a lot for painting 3D prints and models a lot. The two keys to getting good results is you have to thin them down a little (not as much as airbrush) and apply thin coats. Best of luck with your projects and thanks for the sub!
Can you tell me what a good quality airbrush and compressor models I should look at?. I am retired and have a 3D printer that I print super hero busts but haven't learned to paint them. I would be happy to join your discord and be a patreon if I can get an idea what I will need. Your videos are really good and you explain things really well. Even for old guys to understand. Thank you. Great stuff.

First, I just wanna say thank you I’m glad my videos help you. I put a lot of work into breaking them down so anyone can do it. When it comes to Airbrush is I started with a Master Air brand Airbrush. It came in a kit with a compressor as well. I honestly liked learning how to airbrush on a cheaper one so when I messed it up I wasn’t too upset and then once I got used to how to use an airbrush I bought a better one. And I just kept buying better ones and I think I’ve got quite a collection of Airbrush is now.😂. but here are a couple really good brands if you decide to just get a nice Airbrush instead of a cheap one to learn Badger 105 Patriot (what are used in the video) Iwata brand is a good brand too. Best of luck. I also have a free Discord you could join if you have more questions feel free to join that and I can get back to you with anything you may have issues with or have questions.
What's a good PLA that anyone can recommend? I haven't found a favorite yet. Thanks.

@@NimbusDesu It might depend on the printer but I used many brands on my Magician X with no issues. PLA is fairly fool proof unless you try to print any of the "Stone/Rock" versions.

Well when it comes to cheaper paints apple barrel and folk art are great. For more expensive paints I really like the Vallejo paints the game color line is amazing. Especially Game Air paints they are pre thinned and they go right in the airbrush.
I got a issue where the paint will not adhere to the surface properly and form a puddle
@ItsMeaDMaDe
Жыл бұрын
Some filaments don’t adhere well. And you need to spray it with either a rattle can primer or a airbrush primer. Then paint over that.
@Maxtherocketguy

@@ItsMeaDMaDe is there any replacements for primers or how to make normal paints into primers because ther are expensive
@ItsMeaDMaDe
Жыл бұрын
The cheapest method is rattle can. amzn.to/3SN6e6e Primers are made of a different composition that adheres easier to models. The other alternative is wash your print with dial soap to clean the plastic. That may help. Just make sure it’s dry before you start painting again

@@ItsMeaDMaDe ok
Are you aware of a way to get these paints to adhere better? I paint plastic models with them and the paint comes right off if I'm not careful even when primed.
@zbow1974

when i have adhesion issues i use Dupli-Color CP199 Clear Adhesion Promoter Primer, it will help a bunch, nothing is going to stop acrylic paint from being scratched off unless you clear coat it after.
