S Houston here, and people are freaking out. I went out to my local grocery store to pick up some snacks, and bread and water was all bought out apart from like a few slices of Bimbo. Huge overreaction for a storm that's struggling to be a cat1 and not even going to be directly hitting us.

I think Harvey put a bad taste in everyone's mouth. I know it did for me. I have PTSD as soon as the meteorologist speaks of storms. But I didn't go out and buy a bunch of bread and water 😂

@@desmondberger45 It’s not the wind… It’s the water. With hurricanes, water causes more death than wind. Category is only determined by windspeed- Not size, not storm surge. All that flooding at Padre Island a few weeks ago was “only” a tropical storm.

Eye width analogy: ice skater in a spin with arms extended means she spins slower. When she pulls her arms in tight against her body, the spin is much faster.

It’s only about windspeed. The Categories for hurricanes only measure windspeed- They do NOT measure size or amount of water in the system. All that flooding in Padre Island a few weeks ago was “only” a tropical storm. I PROMISE you- If anyone is hurt by tornados spun off by this storm they are not going to be thinking or talking about what category the hurricane is or whether it was “only” a tropical storm.

Aren't the ongoing changing forecasts simply because the storm has MOVED ? As it changes positions, the areas to be affected - change. Not necessarily bad forecasts.

@@texasjourneyman207 Yes I have been through hurricanes, for sure people take all the necessary precautions but do not panic or over react because when things get blown out of proportion like the news forecast love to do then more people can experience needless suffering and worry, and harm when it is not necessary for evacuation.

A big eye, I'm sad not all of Texas in path of hurricane, we need rain.

Well for the longest our area was forecast to get a ton of rain, but now we might not get anything. O well. Least we won't have to deal with those winds. Hopefully

My magic 8 ball does better than some of the U goobers!

If you look at the maps. Everybody shows the same map. The trough is the exact same the dots are the exact same, the eye is always in the center left to right . If everything is the same. How do you get landfall at a dozen different locations. If you do the mph yourself you will know. If you listen to anyone who says they are a forecaster. Prepared to be lied to. The dots don't lie. People do. after this one is over. Get a tracking chart. Put in the dots write down lat and lon . Mph . then next time you're a pro. And can laugh at the forecasters and call them idjits. Then go buy a box of cracker jacks and find your own weather forecaster diploma. Don't forget to say upper level low pressure front.
