I would definitely be more confident using the berthier 1916 5 round capacity vs the 3 round capacity during the great war.

Ah, the Berthier rifle family. Much like the US with the M1903 and the M1917, while the Lebel was France's official rifle of the Great War, more French soldiers were armed with Berthiers.

That's not true. It was specifically a cavalry weapon and the Lebel was far more common. It was only after ww1 and the phasing out of the Lebel where it would become more common than it.

It totally depends on the year in question, the Berthier long rifle was issued in near identical numbers to the Lebel in 1914-1916 and after 1916 it did outnumber the Lebel by quite a bit. The Cavalry Carbine version of the gun was specifically for cavalry and artillery, but not the long rifle.

I was speaking in general terms, not about this rifle in particular. I apologize for any confusion.

Very nice. I'm hoping to some day own a long M1916. Mainly so the recoil doesn't murder me lol.

Yeah, the recoil of the Cavalry Carbine is pretty nasty

Groups WAY better without the bayonet mounted.

In my experience it hits WAY high without it attached, but I have a sample size of one to work with 🤷‍♂️

Which one would you choose Berthier 09/15 (Just 3 rounds clip) or Lebel M1886? If you are WW1 soldier

Berthier just for the speed of reloading, the relatively high capacity of the Lebel is great until you have to reload it in combat, then it’s probably getting you killed
