The sad and untimely passing of Bert Kaempfert left a big void in the world of music. He is not easily forgotten and we are the less without him. This recording befits our memories of him and his musical genius.
Thank you Germany for Bert Kaempfert - you produced a C20th musical genius to complement your great classical ones. God bless, from a British guy.

Until today it is a wonder and great honour the londoners welcomed Bert and James in your mighty Hall, only 30 years after the Blitz ! Music is love.
I never realized that Bert and his orchestra didn't tour until this performance. I'm a huge fan but admit I arrived late to the party and became a Bert Kaempfert fan about four years ago when my musical tastes started to change and I learned to appreciate Bert's great music. I'm very grateful for this video.

I didn't know it either. And they do the songs exactly like in the recordings, which is quite amazing. My musical tastes were pretty much always the same n very eclectic.

I found out of Bert going through vinyls of my neighbors that passed way that left us. He had many and I decided to give it a listen. So glad I did, his style of orchestration is very unique. It’s crazy though because our neighbors were from Germany and Bert was too. Was there a connection there? I would’ve loved to know and talked with the husband, now I’m that much older and not a little kid anymore
The music from my childhood....50 years later, I really appreciate it for its beauty. There are just so many qualities if you break this music down. The swingin' feel, the trade-off between the horns, the rhythm section, drummer Rolf Aherns plays the brushes with such finesse and feeling. He is a big part of that signature BK sound. Oh my, so much good to say.......also such a blend of sounds, 6 vocalists, 3 rhythm guitars, strings, horns a large woodwind section, who else does that? OMG so glad I found this video!

I used to listen to an "elevator music" FM station from the time I was a kid until my mid-teens and the station changed formats. Bert's music was a staple then and every song still brings back great memories.

There is something magical about this music. And I also wondered who else had created something like this. I feel the same way about the great Somerset Maugham, whose art I also found incomparable and which gave me such breathtaking moments.
Im 34 and i discovered Mr Kaempfert when I was 23 when I heard Hold Back The Dawn. I am forever grateful. So sad hes been gone 40 years 😢
R.I.P. Mr,kaempfert [1923-1980] good life music is forever!!

You will make thousands and thousands of music fans super happy with this (these) upload(s) Frank ! The 1974 concert was just superb and the word "historical" is right at its place here, as it was the first time ever that Bert appeared on stage in Europe. Besides the top soloists true Kaempfert fans will also recognize the Botho Lucas Choir - another fine ingredient of the BK Sound. Can't wait to see the second part Frank ! Congratulations from another life long Kaempfert fan ;-) !!

Sure, also with this beautiful music I remember to my father.
I believe that if Bert, with his Orchestra were alive, I guarantee that he would be enchanted by the various technological resources that we have today. Of course at the time he did his songs, he produced splendidly. Bert Kaempfert, the best of all time.
Schade, dass es Diesen Orchester Chef nicht mehr gibt. Ich liebe seine Musik.
Strangers in The Night.................................................THAT is the sound that epitomises the wonderful Mr Kaempfert and his ullustrious orchestra and singers..........................
My first stereo record in 1962 was that happy feeling
Can’t believe Bert gone now for 40 years or so as this music is just superb.
ESTA SI ES UNA ESPECTACULAR ORQUESTA CON SU INCONFUNDIBLE ESTILO, LA PERFECCIÓN MUSICAL EN ESTA BIG BAND SI EXISTIÓ, ALEMANIA DEBE ESTAR ORGULLOSA
Kann ihn immer wieder hören.
HERMOSA MÚSICA, GENIAL DIRECTOR Y GRAN ORQUESTA
I love the vocals (along with orchestra) in that Happy Feeling, 8:38 onwards. Just incredible and so beautiful. Far better than the studio versions I think.
Wonderful music
Ladi Geisler, master !. His solo albums are great too.
Su música he interpretación, es maravillosa. Gracias.

I wish i could be there, at that place, the same time, and listning to that uplifting noise. but when they acctually made that noise i was just ten years old.
A great performance from a great man. Thanks for sharing, Frank.
I just discovered this - finally! I agree with everyone below that this was a truly Historic performance. And Bert talks in English, too. Thank you, fdeckers2003, you have made a lot of people happy!

Yesss... Many thanks
If i hear this one more time i'm hooked.
It's great just to hear Bert speaking in English! I wonder if any of his old fishing buddies from the Everglades are seeing this. We love you Bert, long live Bert Kaempfert!
This brings back a lot of memories. Black and white TV and only a few stations. Watching German TV in the south part of Holland. Baert Kempfert and his orchestra and then all of a sudden Ack van Rooyen on the right siide of the stage, high above the orchestra, playing his bugle. Those were the days... Not of wine and roses, but still. So much has changed since. Ack van Rooyen still playing. Search KZread for "Round Midnight", Ack with Paul Kuhn. What a musician. Thank you for uploading this.
Bert Kaempfert is still the Master of His Own.There is No other Performance beside him.
I would like to echo all the other people who commented. This is a truly wonderful post (all of them). Thank you very much.
ESPECIALÍSSIMO !!!!!! Precioso vídeo !!!!!!!!!!!
Looks like Bert enjoyed himself. I know I sure did. Danke, Bert.

Thomas Blair True! I listen mostly Classical music - like 99% of the time. Light must be really good for me to enjoy it. Bert definitely qualifies. Also a few others like the old Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass (not the modern Herb) plus the better stuff of James Last.

@@LeonMare49 You like classical music, you know James Last. Do you know a better version of 'Elisabeth Serenade (Ralf Binge) than this on (the analog album) music for Lovers? I Don't. And I am a fan of classical music to. (and jazz, and so many more)
How you got this concert is amazing from 1974, WOW !
What a GEM, Frank!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Encantador.
Bye Bye Blues - from same name LP (1966), A Song For Satch - from LP "6 Plus 6" (1972), That Happy Feeling - from LP "A Swingin' Safari" (1962), Strangers In The Night - from same name LP (1966).

I first heard Bert Kaempfert on Metromedia (Channel 5) in N.Y.C. in the early sixties as a child . 'That Happy Feeling' was The Sandy Becker Show theme song , a children's program. Also , during technical difficulties, a Bert Kaempfert song would always be played. I have such nostalgia for this !
Bloody brilliant!
I too want to echo what everyone else has said. I remember watching this on the BBC first time round and making a crude attempt to record it with mono cassette recorder and microphone! Been looking for this for years!
‘PERFEITO 👍’
Klasse!
maravilha saudoso bert kaempfert - boris mendes
So manchen Musiker fand man später bei James Last wieder.

That is Ack van Rooyen. He is a brilliant player.
Отлично!
So beautiful. Today. 2024, we have trash. And the Grammy Awards catervto trash, pure, simple, logical.
woow this was a full house?? a truly genius.
…I’m seeing many familiar faces from the James Last Orchestra here. Bob Lanese, Gunter Platzek…a a couple others I think too.
I only can agree to FrankWms - The music from BK is a world heritage as lika as Mozart or Schubert - only in a modern version and more easy to enjoy. Thanks fdeckers2003
Trumpeter Bob Lanese was making part of the orchestra

Is there Peter Herbolzheimer in the trombone-section?
