lemme have my take on this; As you stagger through the lone, never ending path, brimming with darkness, you find that the ray you long sought for looms ever closer. Will it be so that your struggle ends here? Possibly... ... ... While unsteadily propelling yourself through the endless gloom, the ray, now, brandishes itself bigger... In spite of the ambiance, one question, nonetheless, remains. . . Is it you nearing the end of the passage, or is it, instead, that the ray is moving? The ray doubles, triples, and even quadruplicates in size in the span of seconds. It turns out that, what seemed to be a thread of hope hanging, was not really hope, but an unwavering force creaking with a sharp grating as it stretches still beyond. As it turns, the light at the end of the tunnel was not hope ー it was a train. Sometimes, hope might be what you expect, while, instead, what lays in await is, in fact, despair.

I love how the original soundtrack sounds calm but also a bit creepy whereas this remix sounds like a hopeful song as if Guts's struggle has finally ended and he can finally rest.

Guts' theme stands out from almost every other shounen-esc protag's. While most are upbeat & action-oriented, Guts' provides a much more somber & emotional feeling. It portrays that there will be struggles in life, but there's always a light at the end. A light to reach. One so bright that you know you can't ever stop trying to reach it.

We'll all play this in our heads when Guts finally takes down Griffith/Femto (plus separate the Moonlight Boy from Griffith without killing his son) and the God Hand, destroy the Soul Vortex and rid him and Casca of their Brands, marry her in Godo's house with Puck, Isidro, Serpico, Farnese, Schierke, Rickert, Erica, Jill, Roderick, Morda and so many others watching and aiding the wedding and put the Dragonslayer on the Hill of Swords as a way to say that his days as the Black Swordsman are over!

Guts won't die

I imagine Guts theme as something that plays while you climb the peaks of life, finding that you never truly find an end. Something you can only persue, in any direction of your choosing, over hill after hill, mountain after mountain. Getting so close to saying that your done, and then finding that the road is endless, a peak is just that: a peak, but there is always more to see and do.

For me, Guts' theme is about despair...you made it into a theme of hope! One of my absolute favorite covers!

You know, Guts and Joshua have many similarities: -Both were once a great commanders(Guts-Band of Hawks;Joshua-Caesar Legion). -Both though as hell.( Guts-always fight with apostles and survive;Joshua-could take 5 bullets form sniper rifle and falling from Grand Canyon and still be alive). -Both were betrayed by they best friend.(Guts-Griffith;Graham-Edward Sallow). -They best friends become monsters.(Griffith-Femto;Edward-Caesar). -Both survived hopeless situations with serious injuries.(Guts-Eclipse:Lost left arm and right eye;Joshua-Burning alive and fall from Grand Canyon:Always wearing bandages because of burnt skin). -Both promised to kill their ex-friends. - Both always fell physical pain. -Both found sanctuary and some inner peace(Guts-Elfheim;Joshua-New Canaan).

1997 anime, or the manga. The other adaptations are terrible. The 1997 anime only covers like a 5th of the story tho.

1997 anime focuses on the important character moments, and the Golden Age movies (usually) just look really good. Neither is perfect so it's your choice, really. Though the movies are getting rereleased as an anime and it seems they're getting the missing scenes added, so who knows, maybe it'll be better than the '97 anime when that happens.
