Rika/Bernkastel have the saddest fates of any fictional characters I've read. Bernkastel is a Witch of Miracles, but she is also an Executioner who will discard the possibility of a miracle due to the trauma she suffered while being Rika. 😢

this song is imo the perfect explanation of Bern's character and has a lot of ways to interpret it, but my headcanon and interpretation is that it's about Bern waiting and wishing for her friends, more specifically keiichi, to save her and show her that she can also have her own miracle and be happy, just like she did when she was a human trapped inside the loops i say specifically keiichi because when she was human, he was the one who showed her that fate could be broken in the first place so he should be the one to save her again by killing her dark, "someone please smile at me and learn the unnoticeable truth. i want you to grasp my fingers that tremble too much". that's why she uses "Boku" just like rika did

The lyrics provide a potentially different context to her actions; I almost feel like her "helping" Ange and making her confront the abject truth so that she gives up on her life was Bern (in her own twisted way) helping someone by (to semi-quote a certain meme) guiding them to a "treasure" that she herself cannot possess. Heck, to her Ange may have even be a "friend" of sorts --despite how she treats her (Look no further than the masochistic lover/plaything relationship she has with Lambda for how twisted things are for her). And Battler casually trying to reach out to her and wanting to consider her a friend after everything is upsetting to her not just because it's so outlandishly stupid, but someone wanting to honestly accept her runs completely counter to how she understands herself and would validate her existence. TL;DR despite appearing as an emotionless kuudere for the first half of the story, Bern's a supremely messed up tsundere who simultaneously wants to die and be hugged.

I think Bern's scene with Ikuko in ep8 spells out pretty directly that she was attempting to guide Ange. And then there's the bit in the final scene with Lambda where she talks about Bern playing the role of villain and hoping she gets a better role next time, although Bern is fine with being a villain.

Every 07th Expansion after-party has those character retrospectives where they discuss their role in the franchise; even Teppei said he didn't like playing the role of a child abuser in Rei's all-cast review, but that doesn't mean the character he played in Higurashi was secretly a hero.

I love how you can hear elements from both the songs of Umineko and Higurashi.

Yah I agree that Bernkastel (Rika) had to endure a horrible fate that repeats itself almost endlessly. However Beatrice's, her true self (Y**U), fate is even more tragic. At least Bernkastel (Rika) had a very small chance of breaking out of her cruel fate whereas Beatrice has absolute zero chance of breaking out of her cruel fate and achieve her happy ending.

Who got a happy ending? Do you mean Beatrice? In the fantasy world, maybe, but Beatrice did not get her happy ending in any other possible real world. Even Bernkastel herself, after searching through all possible worlds (kakera), said that Beatrice will never have her happy ending.

Ryan Elf As I said, a non-traditional one. At least Meta Beatrice gets to spend the rest of eternity with Battler, and we get perhaps the most heartwarming sequence in fictional history.

I'd like to mention that although I have not read the Sound Novels, I do know about Umineko and Higurashi, and don't blindly worship the Anime) I think that this song is Bern thinking about how she 'used to be as Rika', and wondering why/how she changed to become a 'demon'. She uses 'Boku' like Rika because she is trying to see whats different about 'Bern' and 'Rika'. When she says 'your' she is refering to Rika. She is asking for 'Bern' to be killed, so that she can become 'Rika' again.

i think it was in the visual novel. rika brought keiichi to the shrine but ofc she doesn’t know how to open up. keiichi, thinking rika was just off, heard a voice in the wind asking him to please help/save that child. it wasn’t hanyuu’s voice but adult rika voice

Bern talks here in place of the original person that hides behind the Beato mask.Meaning the good personality (Beato) is talking to Battler and beggining him to her evil half (Erika), because her evil half is a f*** sadist. Battler does this at the end of Episode 6, when he kills X in reality. In the magical interpretation we see this as 18-year-old-Battler shooting Erika with a gun together with Beato. The same applies to Bern's love letter, this is also "X" talking to Battler.

Idk why but i feel like this song can also be directed to Keiichi My interpretation is Bernkastel, the Witch of Miracles herself, is asking for Keiichi to somehow listen to her words and once again show her she can defeat her fate of being a cruel monster, because she can't believe herself, but she can believe in her friends She's the result of all the Rikas that didn't make past 1983, and because of that, she can only wait for a miracle to come, and for a miracle to happen, the boy who proves fate wrong should've appear and help her

Bit like how red is associated we hate and anger blue is the opposite of red. So the shining blueness is probably meant to represent calmness. I hope this helps. I'm not very good at explaining.

Well this song is from umineko and the colours red and blue have a very special meaning in that story. It's definitely a reference to that.

bernkastel is indeed rika...just play the v-novel and you'll know that bernkastel has become a part of a chess piece before, which connect the universe to higurashi itself... that's why you can hear part of higurashi theme in it.

***** Bern is the personification of the despair and hopelessness that Rika experienced throughout the hundred years of trying in vain to survive past June 1983. They shared the same body for a while, but separated at the end of Rei, with Bern apparently becoming a witch.
